In total sales, commercial vehicles still contribute a high proportion with 2,914 units and the all of three commercial vehicles, passenger cars and multipurpose cars continue to decline that reduction respectively are 5%, 8% and 4%. The bad results of May’s sales are signs that the auto market will end up with only 80,000 units as predicted.
VAMA’s total sales volume reached 29,812 vehicles from January to May 2012, which is 65% compared to those of the same period in last year with 45,597 vehicles. The delivery of passenger cars decreased by 47% and commercial vehicles also by 35%. Up to
this time, May is the second lowest output month just after January. But March is said to be the more successful month with 9,156 vehicles sold.
Looking at the bleak situation of the market, the VAMA continued to propose to the government implementing some measures to save the auto market. “The government should reduce the registration fees down to 5% that apply equally to all provinces, similar to the registration fee for trucks as 2% and should cancel the proposes about fees to limit personal vehicles”.
However, VAMA expressed pleasure when the interest rates for the VND with maturities of less than 12 months that have been adjusted to 9% of the State Bank to support businesses access loans. The lower interest rates also
will stir the customer needs for car loans by individuals as well as more business.
