Preparation day: Teaching day: Week: Period: UNIT 2: HEALTHY LIVING Lesson 2: A CLOSER LOOK Subject: English Timing: period (45 minutes) I Objectives Knowledge By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Use lexical items related to health issues and advice on healthy living - Pronounce the sounds /f/ and /v/ correctly Competence - Linguistic competence, self- study, cooperative learning and communicative competence - Students will develop their listening and writing skills Attitude - Ss learn how to take care of their health themselves - Ss have the awareness of health protection, personal hygiene, know what food is good or bad for their health II Teaching aids Teacher: - Text books, pictures, teaching plan, teacher’s book, … - Smart TV, laptop - sachmem.vn Students: Text books, notebooks, posters, … III Procedure Activity 1: Warm-up (5’) Goal - To help Ss review health issues and advice on health living - To create an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson - To lead into the new lesson Input Ss work in groups to play the game: Pelmanism wash go brush a your teeth b your hands c swimming d exercises Outcome Keys + b: wash your hands + c: go swimming + exercises + brush your teeth Procedure - T gives instructions - T divides the class into two groups and controls the game - Ss work in groups to play the game - T leads in new lesson 2 Activity 2: Pre-teach vocabulary (5’) Goal To prepare students with vocabulary related to the lesson Input Ss work individually to study new words Outcome Procedur e - dim - lip balm - chapped - coloured vegetables - red spots * Vocabulary: - dim (adj): lờ mờ, không đủ sáng - lip balm (n): kem bôi môi - chapped (adj): bị nứt nẻ - coloured vegetables (n): rau màu - red spots (n): đốm đỏ => Checking: Matching (turn to Task 1) - T elicits some new words - Use different techniques to teach vocab (pictures, situation, realia) - Ss listen, repeat in chorus, individually and copy in their notebooks Activity 3: Task 1: (5’) Goal Input To introduce visually some nouns related to the topic Outcome Procedur e * Keys: C E D A B - T explains the demands, runs through the phrases and pictures - T teaches Ss to read the phrases and has them the matching - T has Ss give the answers (Ss read the phrases aloud T corrects their pronunciation if needed) - T checks the answer as a class Ss work individually to match the phrases Match the phrases on the left with the correct pictures on the right 3 Activity 4: Task (10’) Goal To help Ss use the words/ phrases in specific contexts Input Ss complete the sentences with the correct words and phrases Complete the sentences with the correct words and phrases below Outcome Procedur e Keys: coloured vegetables soft drinks fit skin condition sunburn - T runs through the words/ phrases in the box and sentences - T teaches Ss to read the words and phrases provided Remind Ss of their meanings if needed - T asks Ss to work individually Then asks them to give their answers with explanations - T checks Ss’ answers as a class Activity 5: Task (5’) Goal To help Ss talk about their daily activities and decide if each activity is healthy or unhealthy Input Ss work in pairs to discuss and tick each activity in the table Work in pairs Discuss and (Healthy) or U (Unhealthy) each activity in the table as H Outcome Procedur e - T explains the demands and runs through the table (gives meaning of tofu) T asks Ss to work in pairs (Allow them time to discuss and complete the task) - T checks Ss’ answers as a class - T asks Ss to add more activities Say them aloud and the whole class decides if they are healthy or unhealthy (it depends on Ss’ level) Activity 6: Task (5’) Goal To help Ss identify sounds /f/ and /v/, and practice them in words Input Ss work individually to listen and repeat the words they hear Outcome Procedur e - T introduces the sounds /f/ and /v/ with the words food – vitamin, teaches Ss how to pronounce the two sounds - T shows the words in (page 20), asks some Ss to read the words - T plays the recording for them to listen and repeat the words as a class, a group, and individually - T plays the recording as many times as necessary - T checks and corrects Activity 7: Task (8’) Goal To help Ss pronounce sounds /f/ and /v/ correctly in sentences Input Ss work individually to listen and repeat Listen and repeat, paying attention to the underlined words 5 Outcome Keys: vegetables, food favourite, activity vitamin, for active, fit never, fish Procedure - T explains the demands and plays the recording, Ss listen carefully - T has Ss listen to the recording again, repeat each sentence in chorus and individually - T checks and corrects - T calls on some Ss to read the sentences individually WRAP-UP: (2’) -
