Group 2: THCS An Thuận + THCS Tân Phong + THCS Thạnh Hải Unit 9: FESTIVALS AROUND THE WORLD - A CLOSER LOOK Subject: English Timing: period (45 minutes) I OBJECTIVES Knowledge By the end of the lesson, students can: - use adverbial phrases correctly and appropriately - pronounce two-syllable words with correct stress in isolation and in context Competences:  Students can - know the lexical items related to the topic “Festivals around the world” Attitude: Students can - be interested in the topic - know about types of festival and some festival activities II TEACHING AIDS Materials: Textbooks, teacher’s book, CD, ppp file, picture / flash Equipment: computer accessed to the Internet, projector, loudspeaker III PROCEDURE * Warm up (5 minutes) Goal Input Outcome The activities aims at: - creating an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson - leading into new lesson Watch a video clip and answer the question about the festival Questions: How many festival are there ? which are they ? Suggested answers: There are six festivals They are Halloween, Christmas, Mid-Autumn Festival, Thanksgiving, New Year and Easter Procedure - Ask Ss to watch a video clip and answer the questions - Watch a video clip and answer the questions - Give feedback - Introduce the lesson Activity 1: VOCABULARY – Write under each picture a festival name from the box (6 minutes) Goal Input The activity aims at teaching festival names Outcome Suggested answers: Halloween Christmas Mid-Autumn Festival Cannes Film Festival Procedure Easter Thanksgiving - Have Ss look at the pictures and asks them if the know the names of the festivals - HaveSs read the names of the festivals and match them with the suitable pictures - Have Ss work in pairs to compare their answers before they give T the answers - Check and show the correct answers on the screen Activity 2: VOCABULARY – Complete the table below with the phrases from the box (8 minutes) Goal The activity aims at helping Ss understand the activities and food of each festival Input Outcome Suggested answers: Procedure - Ask Ss to work individually to complete the table - Ask Ss to share their answer with their friends - Ask Ss to correct if the answers are incorrect - Give feedback Activity 3: VOCABULARY – Fill in each blank with a word or phrase from the box (8 minutes) Goal The activity aims at giving ss further practice with words or phrases related to festivals and festival activities Fill in each blank with a word or phrase from the box Input painting eggs Christmas Mid-Autumn Festival candy apples Cannes Film Festival turkey At ……… people give gifts to each other My children love ………at Easter How many ……… you need for the Ha'iowec oarty?
