Tan Thach Junior high school Group of teachers : Huỳnh Thị Loan, Cao Thoại Như Lê Vũ Điền, Nguyễn Thu Quyên, Nguyễn Thị Kim Quí, Nguyễn Thị Mộng Điệp, Nguyễn Hồng Diễm Thúy, Lê Ngọc Thùy Linh - Week : 12th - Period: 35th - Preparing date: - Teaching date: UNIT 5: FOOD AND DRINK Lesson 3: A closer look SUBJECT: ENGLISH TIME : PERIOD ( 45 minutes) I.Objectives: 1.Knowledge : By the end of this lesson, students can: - Know more vocabulary about food and drink - Use countable nouns and uncountable nouns: - Use some/ any , a lot of / lots of with both countable nouns and uncountable nouns to describe quantities - Use “How many” and “How much ” to ask questions 2.Competence -Students can distinguish countable nouns and uncountable nouns to talk about things around them -Students can distinguish the usage of “How many” and “How much ” 3.Attitude : -Students will be aware of having healthy food and drink and the amount of food and drink they should have a day or a week II Teaching aids: Course book, pieces of paper, Smart TV/Pictures III Procedures: 1.Activity : Warm-up (5 minutes ) Goal Input To revise the vocabulary related to the topic ‘Food and drink’ - Think and write the countable and uncountable word sugar egg flour salt milk butter water banana Countable noun film book pizza biscuit Uncountable noun The questions: Which word is a countable noun? Which word is uncountable noun? 3.Can you choose and put words in the correct order? Output Procedure Suggested answer: Countable noun Uncountable noun Banana film book pizza biscuit sugar flour salt milk butter water - Teacher divides class into teams - Ask each student in each team go to the board and write the suitable words in the correct column.(which team has more word and write faster is winner) - Teacher asks students to look at the box and give feedback 2.Activity 2: How to use” some/ any, a lot of/ lots of”and practice (16 minutes ) Goal -To elicit/ show the students when we use some/ any, a lot of/ lots of Input Look at “Remember” and tell when we use some/ any , a lot of/ lots of : - There aren’t any apples in the fridge - There isn’t any water in the fridge 1.Circle the correct words or phrases to complete the sentences 2.Look at the picture and complete each sentences The questions: Tell countable or uncountable nouns in each example? When we some/any, a lot of/ lots of? Output Suggested answer: 1.apple, people are countable nouns water, coffee are uncountable nouns ít, vài some (+) countable nouns any (-)(?) uncountable nouns nhiều a lot of / lots of countable nouns uncountable nouns Answer Tasks 1 – some – lots of –some – a lot of – some Task A lot of/ lots of Any Some Some A lot of Procedure - Teacher draws students’ attention to the highlight words and confirm the use of some, a lot of/ lots of -Teacher then asks students to give some more examples -Teacher reminds students to the “definition of countable nouns and uncountable nouns” - T explains the usage of some/ any, a lot of, lots of Task 1: -Teacher asks students circle the correct words or phrases to complete the following sentences -Students work in pairs - Teacher then asks students to swap their textbooks to check their classmates’ answers Task 2: -Teacher asks students look at the picture and complete each sentences -Students work in pairs - Teacher then asks students to swap their textbooks to check their classmates’ answers 3.Activity 3: How to use” How much/ many .?”and practice ( 12 minutes ) Goal To help sts how to: - know the usage of“How much and How many” which are used to ask about quantity Input - Distinguish "How much / How many" Look at the picture and answer: - Example 1: A: How much water you drink every day? B: Two litres - Example 2: A: How many books did you read last month? B: Two Fill in each blank with How many or how much: Output * Structures: Ask about quantity: How much + uncountable nouns………… ? How many + plural countable nouns………… ? Suggested answers: How many films did you watch last year? - three How many bananas you eat every week? - three bananas How many spring rolls did your mother cook last month? - five Procedure - Teacher gives the example 1,2 and guide Ss to how to distinguish "How much / How many" - Ss work in pairs Do ex and ex (Ask and answer using the questions in 3) 4.Activity 4: Free Practice ( 10 minutes ) Goal To help ss more practice, using “ How much/ how many” with countable and uncountable nouns in context to ask about the ingredients of some popular dishes Input * Image you are at the store,a market or a supermarket , ask and answer freely, using “How much/ many .?” and “some, a lot of/ lots of” (good students) Output Pancakes A:What we need to make pancakes? B: We need eggs, sugar, flour, milk and butter A: How many eggs we need? B: two A: How much sugar we need? B: one tablespoon A:How much flour we need? B: tablespoons A: How much milk we need? B: 100 ml How much butter we need? B: 15 grams An omelete A:What we need to make an omelete? B: We need eggs, water, butter, salt and pepper A: How many eggs we need? B: No That’s enough A: Thank you Procedure - T runs through all the words, ask ss if those words are countable or uncountable nouns - T calls a good student to make a conversation as a model - T calls two other good students to make another conversation as the second model - Ss work in pairs - T calls some pairs to practice - T gives feedback - T asks ss to make similar conversations with other kinds of food such as orange juice, milkshake… - T calls some pairs to present their dialogues - T remarks and marks if they it well - If they are good students, teacher can ask them to ask and answer freely without pictures (Using “ How much/ many ?”“some, a lot of/ lots of” to ask and answer ) *Homework: (2) -Do exercises in the workbook - Prepare lesson ( communication) ...
