UNIT 8: FILMS Lesson 2: A closer look I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - use the lexical items related to the topic films ; - pronounce correctly the sounds /iə// and /eə/ Knowledge: * Vocab: film lexical items and practising the sound /iə// and /eə/ * Grammar: The simple present and the past simple tense Competences: - Know how to use Ing- ADJ and Ed-ADj, know how to use the past simple tense - Communication, self-learning capability, creative capacity, ability to use of language…… Qualities: - have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities - love films II TEACHING AIDS Teacher: Text books, pictures, planning, … - Grade textbook, Unit 8, A closer look - Smart TV/Pictures, sets of word cards - sachmem.vn Students: Text books, notebooks, posters, … III PROCEDURES: 1.Warm-up (5’) * Aim: - activate students’ knowledge on the topic of the unit - set the context for the listening and reading part * Content: Game: Guessing game (about film) * Products: Ss write words exactly on the board Teacher’s and Ss’activities Content - Ask ss to write the name of the film they like on a * Guessing Game: piece of paper and keep secret - T call one student to stand in front of the class and ask him/her to give some clues Others ask Yes- No questions to ask and guess the name of the film - Teacher gets feedback -> Today we are going to learn about vocabulary and pronunciation Presentation (5’) * Aim: Enrich students’ vocabulary to talk about activities film * Content: Vocabulary about film * Products: Read and understand the meaning of words Teacher’s and Ss’activities Content Pre teach vocabulary - Teacher use different techniques to teach vocab (pictures, situation, realia) - Follow the seven steps of teaching vacab - Repeat in chorus and individually - Copy all the words * Vocabulary - dull (a) : chậm hiểu, đần độn - violent (a): bạo lực, - confusing (a) : khó hiểu, bối dối - shocking (a): sai trái, tồi, sốc - enjoyable (a): thú vị, thích thú * Checking vocab: < Matching> Practice (28’) * Aims: - revise / introduce the names of film, and some adjectives related to film - combine the match the following adjectives with their meanings - pronounce the sounds /iə/ and /eə/ and practise pronouncing these sounds in words correctly * Content: - Listen and repeat the words - Match the following adjectives with their meanings - Complete the following sentences, using the adjectives in - Pronunciation * Products: Students read vocabularies exactly aloud Students pronounce /iə/ and /eə/ exactly Teacher’s and Ss’activities Task 1: (5’) T-Ss,Ss - Run through the adjectives that are often used to describe films - Ask ss to work in pairs to match the following adjectives - Give feedback Task 2: (5’)T - Ss, Ss - Ss - Teacher asks students to work in group and use the words in Task to put into the balnks - Students work in group and the task - Teacher calls some groups to share their answers with the whole class - Teacher gives feedback and corrections (if necessary) Content Task 1: Match the following adjectives with their meanings Answer keys: b d a e c Task 2: Complete the following sentences, using the adjectives in *Answer key: shock dull enjoyable violent confusing - Teacher explains which adjectives go with each each sentence to make meaningful names of activities Task 3: (8’)T-Ss, Ss-Ss - Teacher asks students to practise in pairs - Ss practice before the class - Give feedback Task 3: work in pairs Ask and answer questions about a film you saw recently A: What film did you see recently? B: Skyfall A: What you think of it? B: It is too violent Task 4:(10’) * Aims: teach Ss how to pronounce the sounds /iə/ and /eə/ and practise pronouncing these sounds in words correctly * Content: Understand and how to pronounce the sounds /iə/ and /eə/ * Products: Students pronounce words exactly Teacher’s and Ss’ activities * Presentation (Pre-teach the sounds /iə/ and /eə/ ) - Teacher introduces sounds /iə/ and /eə/ to students and lets them watch a video about how to pronounce these two sounds - T gives some words and show how to pronounce these two sounds Task 5:T-Ss, Ss - Ss Before listening, teacher let students discuss in pairs and find the words with the sounds /iə/ and /eə/ Content * PRONUNCIATION Suggested answers: - /iə/: idea, pier, really - /eə/: share, hair, chair Task 5: Listen and repeat Underline the words with the sounds /iə/ and /eə/ - Teacher plays the recording for students to check and repeat the sentences -Have them work in pairs to compare their answers Check Ss' answers - Play the recording again Let Ss listen and repeat sentence by sentence, paying attention to the underlined words Production (5’) * Aim: To give students a chance to apply what they have learnt * Content: Game : write sentences including features: film activities and one of the sounds /iə/ and /eə/ * Products: Students read aloud their sentences Teacher’s and Ss’ activities - Teacher asks groups to write sentences including Content features: school activities and one of the sounds /iə/ or /eə/ - Ss Work in groups - Teacher asks each group to hand in their paper and checks, the group with more correct sentences is the winner * Game: Who is faster? - (e.g: There is a chair under the stairs.) - I don’t care about your idea - Teacher invites the winner to read aloud their sentences Homework (2’) Teacher’s and Ss’ activities - T reminds Ss to homework and prepare the new lesson Content - Learn by heart all the new words - Rewrite the sentences into notebooks - Find more film activities that have the sound /iə/ or /eə/ - Prepare Lesson (A closer look 2) ...
