UNIT 4: SPECIAL EDUCATION LESSON 20: READING I. Aims: helping Ss to practise reading for special information and then summarize the main ideas of the text. II. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss know the meaning of new words of the text and get some specific information education III. Skills: reading and speaking IV. Teaching Aid: textbook V. Procedures: Stages/Timing/Focus Teacher’s activities Students’activities Warm-up 5’ Asks Ss to make a list of the acitivities they do daily. Two teams compete to write in 5’ Expected answers: go to class, watch TV, listen to music… Pre-reading 5’ - Introduces the Braille Alphabet. - Asks What is it used for? - Asks Ss to say the difficulties of the blind and the deaf. - Asks Ss to work out the message. - Expected answers: + It is used for the disabled people to read and write. + They can’t watch TV, can listen to music… - Feedback: We are the world. While-reading 20’ Task 1/ p45 + Asks the Ss to match A (words) and B (definitions). + Reads the words chorally. + Asks some pairs to say the words and their definitions again. + Asks Vietnamese meaning of the above words to make sure Ss understand the meaning. Task 2/ p45: Multiple choice: + Asks Ss to read the passage and circle the corresponding letter A,B,C or D + Asks Ss to give the answers and explain the reason for their choice. + Explains the expressions: (translations if necessary) • proper schooling (n): enough and good study. • opposition (n): opposing ideas • make effort (v): try, attempt • to be proud of (a): take pride on. - Expected answers: 1c, 2e, 3a, 4b, 5d. - Expected answers: 1D, 2B, 3A, 4C, 5D. + Calls some Ss to read aloud the complete sentences. Post-reading 10’ Task 3: + Summarizes the reading passage by filling the blanks with suitable words: + Calls Ss to write the answer on the board + feedback + Calls Ss to read the complete passage. –correct pronunciation. - Expected answers: 1. disabled 6.time- consuming 2.read 7.maths 3.write 8.arms 4.efforts 9. fingers 5.opposition 10. proud Homework 5’ Asks the Ss to: - Practise reading the reading passage correctly. - Do writing tasks 1,2,3 into their notebooks. . blind and the deaf. - Asks Ss to work out the message. - Expected answers: + It is used for the disabled people to read and write. + They can’t watch TV, can. understand the meaning.
