Unit 6: An excursion I. Objectives By the end of the lesson students will be able to: - get information about some beautiful places in Vietnam. - improve reading comprehension skill. II. Skills: Reading for gist and for specific information III. Methods: Mainly communicative. IV. Teaching aids: Textbook, large pictures of Thien Mu Pagoda, The One-Pillar Pagoda, Dalat, Ha Long Bay and posters. V. Procedures: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities  WARM-UP (4’) Game_Who is quicker? - Asks Ss to guess and stick each picture with a suitable name. Thien Mu One-Pillar pagoda Halong Bay Da lat - Sticks 4 pictures on the board. - corrects it - Introduces new lesson - Look at the board - Look at the photos and discuss. - Answers: 1Thien Mu 2Dalat 3HaLong Bay 4. One-Pillar pagoda Group 1: Phuong Linh_Dinh Hang_Hai ha Unit 6: An excursion BEFORE YOU READ ( 10 ) * Pair work: - Hangs four pictures of Thien Mu Pagoda, Dalat, Ha Long Bay, and The One-Pillar Pagoda. - Let Ss look at the photos and discuss them. - Hangs the poster of information about photos: - Asks Ss to translate the information into Vietnamese by matching each box with the given translation - Asks Ss to match the pictures with the information Look at the pictures Match information about the pictures with given translation Group 1: Phuong Linh_Dinh Hang_Hai ha It is the pagoda which is on the left bank of Huong river, 6km from Hue. It has been recognized twice by UNESCO as a World Heritage Area. It is a picturesque site a wonder of the world. It belongs to Quang Ninh Its a mountain resort with various ideal excursion places: Xuan Huong lake, pine forests, waterfall It is the pagoda which was built in 1049 in Hanoi and it is in the shape of a lotus Nó là một ngôI chùa nằm bên phía tráI của dòng sông Hư ơng, cách Huế 6 Km. Là một ngôI chùa được xây dung vào năm 1049 ở Hà nội và nó có hình thù như một cáI cột. Đó là 1 khu nghi với nhiều địa điểm du lịch lí tưởng như hồ Xuân Hương, rừng thông, thác nư ớc được UNESCO 2 lần công nhận là di sản thế giới. Đó là 1 kì quan thiên nhiên của thế giới. Nằm ở tỉnh Quảng Ninh. Unit 6: An excursion provided. * Pre-teach vocabulary: - a cave (n): Hang ®éng - an excursion (n): mét cuéc d· ngo¹i - permission (n) : Sù cho phÐp - (to) persuade (v): thuyÕt phôc - a piece of news (n): mét mÈu tin - day off (n) : ngµy nghØ - suppose (v) : tin tëng - share (v) : chia sÎ - seem to (v) : dêng nh * Set the scene: - You are going to read a letter from Lan to her friend, Minh. She tells Minh about the plan for her class trip. Read the letter and do the tasks followed.  WHILE YOU READ * Task 1:Multiple choice ( 10’ ) - Asks Ss to read the whole text in silence. - Divides Ss into three groups. Each group read one passage of text. (That helps Ss find the line contained information easily). - Asks Ss to read each passage and choose the best answer for each sentence. - Lets Ss compare their answers with their friends - Asks some Ss to tell their answers. - Asks Ss: Where can they find the information? To translate into Vietnamese - Feedback. * Task 2: Answering the questions ( 10’ ) - Asks Ss to work in new group and answer the Take note - Read the whole text - Group 1: read 3 first lines and answer question 1 - Group 2: read 2next lines and answer question 2 - Group 3: read 3 next lines and answer question 3. - Do as requested. They are going on a trip when they have some days off after the first term. 2. They are visiting some caves because they want to understand their geography lesson better and many of them have never been inside a cave. 3. It’s only over 20 km. 4. They are going to make a two- day trip and have a night campfire. They are bringing their own food and sharing buses with some other classes to make the trip cheap. 5. Lan is anxious about her parents’ permission. They may not want to let her stay the night away from home . - Translates the whole text again in order for Ss to summarize the letter after they read it.  AFTER YOU READ ( 8’ ) - Requires Ss to explain the mean of the words in the box. - Asks Ss fill suitable word in each blank - Corrects and gives answers. member from each previous group will work in new group to discuss task 2. Change information that they have read when they were in previous groups. Then read the whole text again and find the answer for the left questions. Explain the mean of words and do exercise. While-listening (20’) *Task 1: - discuss about the actions in the pictures - Ask Ss to guess the order of these pictures based on what they have discussed. - plays the tape for the first time - play the tape for the second time - Gives feedback answers: 1.a 2.e 3.b 4.c 5.f 6.d. * Task 2: - Give instructions and have Ss read the sentences quickly and guess the answers. - Lets Ss listen once and ask them to fill in the banks with the information they hear. - Asks Ss to compare the answers with their partner. - Listen and then work in pairs to ask and answer the questions. - Give answers: -Listen and repeat chorally - Repeat individually - Take notes - Give their guesses - Work in groups of five or six to discuss. - Listen to the cassette and rearrange the pictures - Arrange the pictures in the order. - Listen again to check answer - Read the sentences and make a guess - Listen and fill in the blanks.
