UNIT 8: WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU HAVE TODAY? LESSON (4-6)

A AIMS

By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to : - ask and aswer questions about school subjects - Develop Ss' listening and writing skills

* Language focus:

- Sentence Patterns: What subjects you have today ? I have …

- Vocabulary review: names of subjects B TEACHING AIDS

overhead, laptop, loudspeaker, poster C PROCEDURE

I WARM - UP Slap the board

II NEW LESSON 1 Listen and tick:

- Have pupils look the pictures with the subjects in each number - Get sts say aloud

- Tell the pupils that they are going to listen dialoges and tick the correct pictures withs names of subjects

- Play the recording twice for pupils listen and choose the correct answers - Compare the answers with the partners

- Play the recording again pupils check their answers - T gets the answer:

- Have pupils act out the dialogues in pairs or groups for correction

- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text * Answer: 1- b ; -a ; 3- c

2 Look and write:

- Have pupils look at the schools’ subjects - Ask pupils what they this part

- Tell them that they are going to complete the sentences

- Have pupils work in pairs to complete the sentences by looking at the information in the pictures to fill in the blanks

- Call on a pupil to write on the board and other pupils write in the notebooks in individuals

- Have pupils discuss their answers within in pairs for correction - Have pupils comment the answer on the board

- Call some pupils read aloud their work in front of the class - Have the class chorally read each line

- Introduce the song “What day is it today?”

- Play the recording and listen the song.

- Play the recording again for pupils to sing each line of the rhythm - Call on a group of six to the front of the class and the actions - The others clap their hands after the song

- Group work Pupils practise singing and doing the actions in groups

- Monitor the activity and help them when necessary Correct pronunciation Ss’ errors

- Call on one group to perform the song at the front of the class The rest of the class sing the song and clap the rhythm

- Have class sing the song again to reinforce their pronunciation III REINFORCEMENT

Sing the “Days of the week” song II NEW LESSON

1 Look, listen and repeat

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books

- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles - Repeat the step a few times

- Some Ss role play and the others comment - Ask Ss to role play

- Ask Ss to role play before the class

- Explain the meaning of the language practised 2 Point and say

- Ask Sts to look at the pictures given

- Play CD for sts listen and repeat all the days given

- Read the words and have pupils read in chorus, individuals - Explain the pattern:

- Ask pupils about what they get information to say

- Tell them that they are going to ask and act out Sam, Fred, Mimi, Winnie to answer when you have Science

- Have pupils act out the characters to ask and answer about the subjects

- Call on all pairs to perform the task at the front of the class The rest of the class observe and give respond

3 Let’s talk

- Ask them to read the questions given:

What subjects you have today? When you have English?

Who is your _ teacher? - Ask pupils to answer the questions

- Have pupils ask and answer in pairs

- Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation (stress, assimilation of sounds and intonation), and offer help when necessary

- Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible

- Make a few questions to check pupils' comprehension of the language - Have the whole class repeat all the phrases in chorus

*Suggested answer: I have Maths, Vietnamese, English and Science. I have it on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

Have sts look at the crosswords puzzle withs pictures about subjects’book’s Devide class into two teams to write the names of subjects

- Have pupils look at the pictures a, b, c and d on page 55 of the Student Book - Get sts the information in pictures

- Give feedback

- Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording and

match the information they hear to the pictures by numbering the boxes - Play the recording twice for pupils to listen and number the boxes - Check their guess Compare the answer with the partner

- Play the recording again pupils check their answers - T gives the answer:

- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text

- Have pupils look at the table and passage given - Ask pupils to read them aloud

- Tell them they are going to learn how to pronoun the sounds /ct, and /cts/ in the words subject, subjects

- Play the recording again for the whole class to repeat each line in the speech bubbles to reinforce their pronunciation

2 Listen and tick Then write and say aloud - Have pupils look the sentences and given. - Get sts say aloud

- Tell the pupils that they are going to listen sentences and tick the words they hear to complete the sentences

- Play the recording twice pupils to listen and tick - Compare the answers with the partner

- Play the recording again pupils check their answers T gives the answer: - Have pupils act out the dialogue in pairs or groups for correction

3 Let’s chant: What subjects you have today?

- Put the piece of paper with the chant from Page 56 written on it on the board - Tell pupils that they are going to chant

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen as they read Clap the syllables

- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat each line of the chant and clap the syllables

- Call on some pupils to perform the chant at the front of the class The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible
