PRESENTATION OUTLINE

L INTRODUCTION

1 Greeting

Greetings, everyone We are Group 5 Today, we will present about ways to

protect animals We are thrilled to be here to share our knowledge an insights with at

all of you I hope this will help you to have whole perspective about this topic

2 Introducing the group’s members

There are 7 members in our group: Nguyen Thi Thu Thao; Le Thi Nhu Quynh;

Ha Le Giang Thanh; Dinh Thi Phuong Thao; Tran Phuong Thao; Duong Van Ky The

and Tran Thuy Tien

3 Introducing the group’s topic

Animal is a precious gift from God for this planet The term "fauna" is not

only for wild animals but also for all non-domesticated life forms including birds,

insects, plants, fungi and even microscopic organisms To maintain a healthy

ecological balance on this land, animals, plants and marine species are as important as

humans Every organism on this earth has a unique place in the food chain that

contributes to the ecosystem in its own way But, unfortunately today, many animals

and birds are endangered So, for us as human beings, it becomes a great responsibility

to save the animal

4 Outlining the presentation

About our topic, we are going to divide our presentation into three parts:

introduction, body and conclusion The body of our task consists of four parts,

beginning with presenting about definition animals, the next part is about real

situation, after that, our assignment will mention about the role of animal protection,

and the final part will talk about ways to protect animals

II BODY/DEVELOPMENT

1 Definition

1.1 Definition of animals

Animals (or Metazoa) are living creatures with many cells that make up the

kingdom Animalia Animals get their energy from other living things Usually, they

eat them or are parasites Animals, plants, fungi, and some other living things have

complex cells, so they are grouped together as eukaryotes Most animals are mobile,

meaning they can move around Animals take in oxygen, and give out carbon dioxide

This cellular respiration is part of their metabolism (chemical working) In both these

ways they are different from plants

1.2 Definition of animal protection

Trang 8

Animal protection 1s an activity aimed at conserving and protecting animals from threats such as habitat loss, illegal hunting, wildlife trade and other abusive practices From past to present, especially in the period of modern economic development, animal protection has always been the priority and most important task for many countries Because that is the only solution for the long-term survival of humanity on Earth when animals are threatened by human needs The goal 1s to ensure that the natural world and animal habitats are protected for future generations

2 Real situation

In Vietnam, many wild animal species are facing the risk of extinction due to illegal trade and consumption for many different purposes such as food, medicine, Jewelry Poaching and hunting of animals for fur, jewelry, meat and leather are other Important factors contributing to the extinction of wildlife If soon, no ngorous measures are taken to save the fauna, it would not be long when they find a place on the list of extinct species And that would not be all! The extinction of wild species will certainly have a fatal impact on the human race

In addition, animals are also affected by climate change and environmental pollution Many animals have been reduced and lost in quantity due to the destruction

of their habitats, mainly due to human activities such as deforestation, construction of hydroelectric projects, and burning of forests for farming land work Animals have decreased by more than half since 1970, by 2020, the number of wild animals will only be more than 1/3 compared to 1970 with the rate of decline being at 2% per year and showing no signs of decline slow down Currently in the world there are about 1.556 wild animal species identified as being in danger of extinction or near extinction

in need of urgent protection In tropical forests, the shelter of more than half of all creatures currently existing on earth is also shrinking, causing many types of wildlife

to disappear because their habitats are being destroyed Protecting animals in nature is

a necessary issue

3 The role of animal protection

Protecting animals helps pass on the priceless values of nature to future generations This plays an important and urgent role for the following reasons

Firstly, every organism on this Earth has a unique position in the food chain that contributes to ecosystem diversity Animals play a vital role in maintaining the balance of ecosystems No study has fully shown how wild animal species affect each other, but if in the same ecosystem there is a disappearance of a species, 1t will cause a chain reaction that affects other species Especially for species that play an important role in the ecosystem, their extinction will cause unpredictable consequences Protecting them helps preserve biodiversity, which is essential for the health of our planet

Secondly, animals contribute to ecosystem services such as pollination, seed dispersal, and pest control Consider a simple example of insects and insectivores that

Trang 9

destroy pests that harm crops Besides, using plants containing natural toxins to repel harmful insects, which are natural enemies, is an alternative that is both safe and effective while also ensuring safety and friendliness environmentally These services are critical for agriculture and human survival

Thirdly, the protection of animal is very important in regulating and assessing the quality of the environment Animals often serve as indicators of environmental health Declines in animal populations can signal broader environmental issues like pollution or climate change For example, when environmental pollution by the pesticide DDT in the 20" century caused a large decline in falcon and eagle populations

Finally, conserving wildlife ensures that future generations can enjoy and benefit from the natural world and its diverse species Protecting animals is not just about saving individual species but also about maintaining the intricate balance of our ecosystems and ensuring a sustainable future for all life on Earth

4 Ways to protect animals

Animals provide humans with protein sources from meat, eggs and milk, traction and transportation or even becoming a friend of man However, precisely because it serves humans so much and humans do not protect it, animals and its habitat are severely affected Recognizing the importance of animal protection, there needs to

be specific measures for individuals, groups and state agencies to implement

4.1 Creating wildlife- friendly habitats

Increase beneficial insects: Are 3% of garden insects bad or potentially bad? The remaining 97% of insects are neutral or beneficial for pollinating and/or supporting wildlife including amphibians and birds

Landscape and plants: Planting ground cover around the base of the tree will keep the area looking nice and provide habitat Caterpillars fall from trees and other plants, then burrow into the soil below to continue their life cycle Reducing lawn size and replacing the area with beneficial plants will go a long way in promoting wildlife Habitat and shelter: Plant forests, prevent deforestation: Preserve habitats, create habitats for animals, conserve and develop the number of wild animals Support and protect wild animals during the breeding season: Maintain and develop the number

of individuals in the species

Protect and restore the living environment: Establishing conservation areas to protect animals’ natural habitats Ecological restoration: Plant trees, restore wetlands and degraded ecosystems

Reduce pollution: waste control: Minimize waste and pollution from production and daily activities Use friendly materials: Encourage the use of materials and products that do not harm the environment

Trang 10

4.2 Reducing meat consumption

Socialize and Share:

- Cook with Friends: Host potlucks or dinner parties with plant-based dishes

- Jom a Community: Find local or online groups focused on plant-based eating for support and inspiration

Focus on Whole Foods:

- Fruits and Vegetables: Fill your plate with a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables

- Nuts and Seeds: Incorporate nuts and seeds for healthy fats and protein

Try Meat Alternatives:

- Plant-Based Meats: Brands like Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods offer burgers and sausages that mimic the taste and texture of meat

- Mushrooms: Use mushrooms as a meat substitute in burgers and tacos for their umami flavor

Meatless Days Start with Meatless Mondays:

- Designate one day a week to go meat-free Gradually increase the number of meatless days

4.3 Participating in citizen

Participating in citizen science is an effective way for people to contribute to protecting animals and the environment Individuals can join the research projects without needing specialized knowledge by observing wildlife or monitoring environmental changes Platforms like iNaturalist and eBird allow users to share information about species with scientists, helping to collect valuable data on species distribution and pollution numbers Additionally, people can help monitor environmental conditions, such as water quality, or track endangered species like sea turtles and birds By participating, citizens contribute to scientific research and raise their own and the community's awareness of the importance of preserving biodiversity and ecosystems This engagement helps bridge the gap between science and the public, creating a broader impact on conservation efforts

4.4 Limiting the use of products derived from wild animals

Buying souvenirs made from wildlife part such as turtle shells, fur or ivory means that animal has suffered inhumane treatment due to your jewelry needs And you may accidentally "assist" i wildlife poaching and smuggling Therefore, we need

to limit the use of products derived from animals with the following measures

Firstly, we need opt for plant-based or synthetic alternatives instead of products made from animals, like furs, or exotic leathers Consider a simple example

Trang 11

replacing animal skin with plant-based materials such as apple peel, banana stem The term “vegan leather” is used to describe all animal — based alternatives to leather Secondly, we can participate in campaigns to reduce demand for wildlife products and promote us animals For example, in Vietnam, to reduce demand for illegal wildlife products, the "Protecting Endangered Wildlife" Project has introduced

a set of creative messages and images aimed at changing consumer behavior

Besides, government agencies have issued a ban on the trade of rhino horn and Ivory in all forms If individuals or organizations illegally buy and sell tvory or rhino horn, they will be severely fined, even imprisoned

4.5 Advocating for stronger laws

Enforcing stricter laws to protect animals is a pressing issue that demands immediate attention As human activities continue to encroach upon natural habitats, countless species are facing extinction To safeguard biodiversity and ensure the well- being of animals, it is imperative that we strengthen existing animal protection laws and implement new ones By enacting stricter penalties for wildlife trafficking, poaching, and animal cruelty, we can deter individuals and organizations from engaging in these harmful activities Additionally, investing in wildlife conservation efforts and creating protected areas will help preserve critical habitats for endangered species Furthermore, raising public awareness about the importance of animal welfare and promoting ethical consumption habits can foster a more compassionate society Ultimately, strengthening animal protection laws is not only essential for the survival

of countless species but also reflects our commitment to a more just and sustainable future By taking decisive action now, we can leave a positive legacy for generations

to come

HL CONCLUSION

1 Reviewing all main points

So it can be seen that any action we take has an impact on the living environment Most people are creating animal products as food, souvenirs to satisfy their needs, so some animals have alarming numbers State agencies, more broadly than each individual, need to take measures to protect them because protecting animals helps pass on the priceless values of nature to future generations

2 Ending the presentation

That brings us to the end of my presentation Many thanks for your attention And now if there are any questions, we would be pleased to answer them
