(1)Date of preparation: 10/10/2012 Week: 10 Period: 18 Class: 09 Unit 03 : Section: A TRIP TO THE COUNTRYSIDE Write I – OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to know how to write a passage describing a story happening in the past and practice writing a passage entitled “A country picnic”, using the cues given II – LANGUAGE CONTENT: – Grammar: - Past simple (review) – Vocabulary: in text book III – LANGUAGE SKILLS: Writing, reading, speaking, and listening IV – TEACHING AIDS: – Teacher: Picture, postcards and cassette player – Students: Studying and preparing the lesson at home before go to class V – METHODS: - Communicative method - Controlled practice - Teaching vocabulary - Explanation - Free practice VI – PROCEDURES: –Taking attendance: - Greeting class and introducing teachers: - Checking up the attendance: – Checking up the previous lesson: – New lesson: A Warmup: (Tense drill) - Teacher asks Ss to complete these second sentences - Transformation drillComplete the second sentences: a/ They often go to school on school day  Yesterday……………………………… b/ She catches a bus for work everyday. Yesterday morning……………………………… c/ I usually have bread and milk for supper. Yesterday evening……………………… d/ They sometimes take me to the zoo. Last month…………………………………… - Eliciting questions: + What tense have we just used to rewrite the sentences above? + When we often use the simple past tense?  Introducing the new lesson: Today, we are using this past tense to write a passage about “A country picnic” B Pre-Writing Pre–teach vocabulary: - Teacher explains the words in lesson which Ss prepare to write it + lay out (v) bày – laid / leid / - laid: trải, (dọn đồ ăn) (mime) + to gather (v) thu lượm, thu hái (mùa màng) (2) + hide – and – seek (trốn tìm) / blind man’s bluff (bịt mắt bắt dê) + (to) go on / for a picnic : gi ngoại (translation) + (n) Picnic site : nơi gi ngoại (explanation) The place where you have a picnic + (n) blanket : chăn, mền (picture) + (to) gather : lượm, thu lượm (synonym= collect) + (to) take (a bus) to somewhere: Đón (xe buýt) đâu (translation) - Have Ss repeat the words in chorus then rub out word by word but leave the circles - Go on until Ss can remember the words Get Ss to write the words again in the correct circles * Checking: Slap the board/ matching Ordering statements: a We caught a taxi b.We had food and drank fruit juice c We played games, listened to music and went fishing d.We got home at about 8.00 p.m e Last Sunday we went to the picnic site by bus * Key: 1 e, 2 b, 3 c, 4 a, 5 d Rules to write a passage describing a story happening in the fact: (Eliciting from the ordering) a Use the past tense, mainly the simple past b.Activities are in time order Describing: - Ask students look at each picture, one by one and read the cues given (individually) - Have students talk about what they write for each picture C Whilewriting: - Ask Ss to look at the pictures, one by one, read cues - Have students describe the pictures to their partners - Ask Ss to talk to the class about what they can see in each picture - Have Ss write the passage entitled “A country picnic” - Ask students to write a passage entitled “A Country Picnic” using the picture and cues given (3) - T models the first sentence on the board: It was a beautiful day, my friends and I decided to go on a picnic - Students continue - T goes around and helps weak students * Key: It was a beautiful day, my friends and I decided to go on a picnic We took a bus to the countryside and then walked about 20 minutes to the picnic site next to the river We put down the blanket and laid out the food After meal, we played the games “What song is it” and “Blind man’s bluff” Late in the afternoon we went fishing We enjoyed our picnic When we look at the time, it was nearly 6.30 p.m We hurriedly gathered our things and ran to the bus stop We were lucky to catch the last bus and we arrived home very lately in the evening D Post–writing: - Ask students to share and compare their writings with their partners and correct if they can - Choose some writings to correct in front of the class - Ask Ss to complete the letter 1- how / family? / I / well / parents 2- live / countryside / North / Vietnam 3- life / quiet / peaceful / people / friendly / honest 4- like / come / see / summer? - Give feedback Dear Tom I am very pleased to receive your letter days ago How is your family?
