(1)Lesson Plan Period : 23 Unit : (grade 11 – advanced) Preparation date : 22/10/2007 Lesson : writing (cont) I Aims : - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to write a letter of invitation - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to write a letter of acceptance or refusal II Lexical items : - confirm - participate in III Structures : - I am very happy to accept your kind invitation - I am afraid I can’t come because ……… IV Teaching aids: - textbook - handouts - Sheets of paper - chalk and board V Techniques : - writing-based - Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard warmChecking the previous lesson up - write on the board parts of a letter which are request for a reply ordered randomly (7’) invitation - call on a St to rearrange in order opening / greeting - check the answer closing and ending Transition: last time we studied components reason for event venue, date & time of and a letter of invitation / refusal / acceptance ; and words and phrases for writing a letter Today we’ll how to write a complete letter - write down on the board: Unit3: Writing a Letter of Invitation and of Reply (cont) Prewriting (10’) Activity 1: Teaching new words again - use pictures and explanations to present some new words - Read the words one by one and ask Sts to repeat Lop6.net - highly (adv) : cao - appreciated (adj): cam kich, danh gia cao - affectionately (adv) : chan - look forward to : - invite (v) : moi - invitation (n) : loi moi Materials -s Chalk and board (2) whilewriting (20’) writing letters - put Ss into pairs A, B, and C - Tell pairs A to write a letter of invitation based on the situation given in Task c, p42 ( you may want to give them a certain place and time to make it consistent in all letters, e.g “ on Saturday next week, at your house, at pm.” - Tell pairs B to write a letter of reply, accepting the invitation - Tell pairs C to write a letter of reply, refusing the invitation - go around to control and give help if necessary - when they have finished, collect Ss’ writing for correcting later Postwriting (10’) Listening and recognizing - Read some more letters, one by one, and ask Ss to listen and recognize where they are invitation, acceptance of refusal - Ask Ss what helps them know which is which to see if they can recognize the target language used - Ask Sts to write one more letter of Homework invitation (1’) Lop6.net Models: - Letter of acceptance Small board Dear Thanh Thao, Thank you very much for cards inviting me to your birthday party on Saturday 25th at 6:30 pm Yes, we haven’t met each other for ages Recently I have had a heap of things to do, but you are so special that I can’t refuse to come Moreover, I am very excited to meet all our old friends Thanks for the opportunity Please tell me id you need a hand Cheers, Van Anh Ss’ writing (3)
