LESSON 1: Part 1, 2, 3 I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize and pronounce the letter Ii and its sound correctly

- Understand, recognize and say the three Ii words - Write the letter Ii

Vocabulary: ink, igloo, iguana. Sight words: oh, no, my.

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing 3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work IV Procedures:

1 Organization:

- Greeting and check student attendence

2 Warm up (5’)

- T divide class into two teams (the students can choose their team’s name)

- Give each team the same numbers of flash cards about what they have learned in previous lessons (5 or cards)

- Give the students time to remember their pictures (1minute)

- Each team select one Ss to come to the board and draw all the pictures in their team - Set the time for the student to draw

Which team has the most correct pictures will win and get a small gift from the tea 3 New lesson (30')

* Activitiy 1: Listen, point and repeat Colour (7’)

- T introduction of letter I, Its sound and how to pronounce the words beginning with Ii

- Instruct the students how to pronounce the

letter name and the letter sound by saying: This is the letter I/aɪ / The letter I says /ɪ/.” - Repeat several times and check students’ pronunciation (letter I /a/ and its sound /ɪ/) - Use the phonics cards with ink, igloo and iguana, read the words out loud and have students repeat

- Use gestures (hand actions) to help

students to understand the meanings of the three words (ink: imitate writing with a pen, igloo: mime being cold, iguana: make a lizard’s head with hand and move it left and right quickly)

- Call some students to say the words out loud and correct their mistakes (if any)

*Activity: Sit and Stand Game (3')

- Show the phonics cards one by one For example, show the card with ink, but

incorrectly say igloo or iguana, the students will stand; if the words are correctly said, they will stay sitting

- Do the same procedure for the other two cards

- Give feedback

Activity Listen and point Choose (7’)

- T asks Ss to look at the screen and listen to the words: Oh no, my ink Oh no, my igloo. Oh no, my iguana.

- T asks Ss to point to the correct object when they hear the words from the CD - T asks Ss to listen and repeat the words for several times

- T give feedback

*Acting out game: optional (3')

- Says the words ink; the students the gestures following teacher’s talk (not teacher’s action)

- Continue with the other words

- Students who incorrectly have to sing or dance or any other requests

Activity 3: Chant and show! (5')

- Use the phonics cards on the board and have the students sing the chant with ink.

Do the same with igloo and iguana.

- The whole class sings the whole chant Do

Activity: Writing in the air (5')

- Show the letter Hh again, have Ss write the Hh in air with their fingers

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary II Teaching aids:

- T asks sing the chant in lesson 1, keep the rhythm by gesturing New lesson

Activity Listen Read along (10’)

- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen to the story once

- Play the CD again Ss listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story

- T read the story Ss follow their books - T reads the printed words then let Ss look at the pictures and say the words

- T asks Ss work in pairs One reads while the other checks

Activity: Say the Sight Words (5’)

- T point to and say the sight words: look, at, the, in, my and ask Ss repeat.

- T calls Ss to read them aloud Activity Song (10’)

- T put the ink, igloo and iguana phonics cards up on the board

- T point to the igloo and say: “here is my igloo” and ask Ss to repeat

- T play the CD and ask Ss listen and sing along

- T play the CD again for Ss sing and corresponding actions

Activity: Which card? Gamev (5')

- T put the phonics cards face up on the table/stick them on the board

- T give Ss a minute to look at the cards - T ask Ss to close their eyes and then teacher read one word of the card

- Tell the students to open their eyes and point to the card with the word teacher read
