LESSON 3: Part 6, 7 I Objective:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practise the sound of the letter Aa and the coresponding words

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work - Some techniques can be used: Craftwork, Thumbs Up or Down IV.Procedures:

2 Warm up (5’)

- T asks Ss to open their notebooks In two minutes, Ss write as many Aa as they can

- T monitors and pride the winner 3 New lesson.

Activity Colour the apples that have Aa in them(8’)

- T asks to take out their pencils and name some colours and ask the Ss to repeat

- T uses the structure: “I like…” and ask Ss hold up the colour pencils/ crayons they like

- T asks Ss colour the apples that have Aa in them

- T gives Ss minutes to colour in the apples that have Aa in them

- T go around the class providing any

Activity: Thumbs Up or Down(5’)

- Number the apples in exercise from one to six

- T asks Ss to put their thumbs up if the apple has Aa in it and put their thumbs down if the apple does not have Aa in it e.g Teacher: (point to the apple number one in the book) Apple number one Up or Down?

Class: (putting their thumbs up)

T: Good! And apple number two? Up or Down?

Activitiy Listen Point and repeat (8’)

- T shows Ss the acrobat phonics card Point to it and say: acrobat Ask them to repeat

- Mime trying to keep balance and say: acrobat Encourage Ss to the same - T point to the pictures, Ss the

corresponding actions and say the words - T asks Ss to colour the pictures of the words that start with the a sound Activity: Craftwork (7’)

- T asks Ss to take out their notebooks - Ss choose one word then draw the letter and the picture in their notebooks

- T tell them to colour the letter and the picture

- T ask Ss to find out and write as many a as they can in two minutes - Ss write the most they will be winner

- T let’s Ss revision of letter A, its sound - T write on the board the big N and small n - Point to the letter A and say out loud “This is the letter A The letter A says /ei/”

- Point to the letter a and say out loud “This is the letter a The letter a says en

- Have the class repeat its sound chorally, then individually

- Have the students say the sound

individually, correct the pronunciation if necessary

Activity: How to write letter A (5’)

- Demonstrate how to write the big A by stroke

- Draw an example of letter A using dashed lines

- Use a different colored chalk to model tracing the letter A

- Have some students practice tracing letter A on the board

- Have students trace letter A in the books

- Students say after each finished letter - Go around to give help if necessary Activity Write the letter Aa Then tick (P) (5’)

- T copy the box from the book to the board - Tell the students that you are going to write the letter Aa into the box

- Demonstrate the writing

- Put phonics cards of an ant and an apple on the board

- Draw square boxes next to them on the board

- Ask Ss which one goes with letter Aa and then tick the correct box

- Ask Ss to write the letter Aa in the boxes in their book and tick the correct picture to the letter

Activity 3: Trace and write a (5’)

- T let’s Ss revision of words starting with letter Aa by the game: Thumbs Up or Down - T asks the students to close their books - Hold up the phonics cards one at a time - Ask the students to verify the word the teacher says by putting their thumbs up or down

E.g Teacher: (holding up the net phonics card)

Nose Up or Down? Class: (putting their thumbs down) Teacher: Good! What it is?

Class: Nose!

- Put the phonics card (ant) on the board - Demonstrate tracing the line to connect the ant and the word nt

- Ask Ss for the missing letter, write in the gap

- Asks Ss the same procedure in their book

- Go around and give help as needed

Activity 4: Circle the pictures of the words that begin with the a sound (5’)

- Put the phonics cards (ant, apple, aligator, acrobat) up on the board

- Point to an ant and say: ant

2 Write the letter Aa Then tick (P)

Answer keys: 1 ant acrobat

Activity 3: Trace and write a Answer keys: 1 ant

2 alligator 3 apple

4 Circle the pictures of the words that begin with the a sound

Write the letter Aa

Trace letter a

- Point to an apple and say: apple

- Ask Ss which one begins with the a sound - Ask Ss circle and say the ant

- Give Ss minutes to circle the pictures that have Aa in them

- T go around the class

Activity: Sound and Word Game (5’)

- Divide Ss into two teams, team A and team B

- Put one of the phonics cards (e.g: ant) on the board

- Ask Ss from Team A to identify the sound (one point), the picture (one point) or both (two points)

- Continue with a student from Team B - Write the points for each team on the board
