UNIT 12: Yy Lesson

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: - Recognize and say the three Yy words correctly

- Do the corresponding actions - Practice reading skills

- Sing letter Yy song 1 Language focus:

- Vocabulary: yo-yo, yellow, yatch 2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing

3 Attitude: Teach Ps to have positive attitude in study. II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: pupils' book, CD, phonic cards 2 Student: Pupil’s book – p.56

III METHODS: P.P.P IV PROCEDURE: 1 Organization (1’): -Greet Ps

- Check Ps’ attendance

- Have students listen to the chant in lesson and sing along

- Put the phonics cards of a yo-yo, yellow and a yatch on the board - Get Ps to go to the board and write the missing letters

- Check and correct with the class and then get Ps to say aloud all the words New lesson (25’):

Activity (14’): Lead-in:

- Tell the students to listen for words that begin with the /J/ sound

- Ask the students to stand up when they hear words with /j/ sound and sit when they don’t hear words without /j/ sound

- Can you see the /j/- yo-yo? Point to it

- Encourage the students to point to the picture of the word that the teacher says

- Play the CD Have the students listen to the story once

- Play the CD again The students listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story

- Read the story The students follow in their books - Teacher reads the printed words then let the

students look at the pictures and say the words - Ask students work in pairs One reads while the

other checks, then they swap roles

- Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help

Saying the Sight Words:

- Point to and say the sight words: I, have, a, it, is, too, like, my, and

- Have pupils repeat

- Have some pupils read them aloud Activity (12’):

- Put up the yo-yo, yellow, yacht phonics cards up on the board

- Point to the yo-yo and yellow phonics card and say: A yellow yo-yo The students repeat.

- Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song

- Play the CD The students listen and sing along - Play the CD again The pupils sing and

corresponding actions

Sight words:

5 Song.

4 Consolidation (4’): Correct teacher

- Prepare some phonics cards (from this lesson and previous unit) - Ask individual student to correct teacher’s statements

e.g Teacher: (pointing to the yacht) Look! It is a yellow yo-yo. Student 1: No! It is a yellow yacht!etc.

Week 26 - Period 52

UNIT 12: Yy Lesson + Lesson 4

1 OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ps will be able to: - Read and say the three Yy words correctly

- Recognize and say an extra Yy word correctly

- Review the sound of the letter Yy, four Yy words and recognize the corresponding pictures

1 Language focus:

- Vocabulary: Yo-yo, yellow, yacht, yogurt 2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: Pupil’s book, CD, phonic cards 2 Student: pupil’s book, page 57

III METHODS: P.P.P, games, chant IV PROCEDURE:

- Play the song from Unit (Track 78), the students listen and sing along - Get Ps to play the Chinese Whisper games, using some sentences such as:

I have a yo-yo/

I have a yellow yo-yo/ It is a yellow yatch/ I like yellow.

3 New lesson (25’):

-Show the students the yogurt phonics card Point to it and say: /j/ - yogurt Ask them to repeat

-Mime eating yogurt and say: /j/ - yogurt Encourage the students to the same

-Say the letter The students perform the action and say the letter and the word (if they can)

-Play the CD The students listen, point to and repeat the word

-Point to the picture and have students name them -Allow the students some time to colour in the

pictures of words start with the /j/ sound

-Go around the classroom providing any necessary help
