decisive role in promoting social communication and international cooperation, and is of great concern to readers In order to better carry out its own historical mission, the newspaper needs to pay more attention to the content and form, especially language expression, so as to convey the message concisely and become a means for readers to broaden their horizons and keep up with the times As an important part of news, news headlines also need to meet the reading requirements of the readers from content to form In recent years, they have been highly valued by journalists and researchers in linguistics This thesis adopts research methods such as investigation, description and analysis to investigate and analyze the linguistic characteristics of the news headlines of China People's Daily since the 21st century, so as to further explore the methods of translating Chinese news headlines This paper is divided into three chapters The first chapter summarizes the relevant studies of Chinese and Vietnamese scholars In the second chapter, 1726 headlines of People's Daily since the 21st century are investigated and analyzed in terms of words, grammatical structures, punctuation marks and rhetorical devices, and their characteristics are expounded In addition, it also discusses the characteristic of the topic in the news headlines The results show that news headlines consist of multiple language forms, including words, phrases, and sentences Among them, the title in the form of sentence is more dominant In terms of words, abbreviations, loanwords and new words are common in the headlines of People‘s Daily News Double quotation marks, question marks, exclamation marks, colons, commas, and dashes appear in the news headlines Sometimes, punctuation also plays a certain rhetorical role Metaphors include similes and metaphors, metonymy, analogy, antithesis, quotation, allusions, rankings, questionings Also, rhetorical techniques are commonly used in news headlines All of this is designed to make headlines more appealing to readers and iii to guide them through the newspaper The third chapter investigates and analyzes the current situation of the translation of news headlines in People's Daily The results suggest that the translators have adopted literal translation, free translation, addition translation, reduction translation and transformation in the translation process Most of the translations can meet the requirements of information transmission, but some have not successfully conveyed the content and form of the original text Based on the results of the study, this article also relates to the reading and translation of newspapers and periodicals in Chinese teaching in Vietnam, and puts forward some suggestions of providing some useful
