Period 80 UNITS THIRTEEN: FESTIVALS Date: March 18th, 2008 LESSON ONE: GETTING STARTED & LISTEN AND READ I. AIM: - Reading for details about traditional Festivals II. LANGUAGE CONTENT: 1. Grammar: 2. PROCEDURES: T’s & Ss’ activities Content T giver situations and asks Ss to answer Ss listen and answer T presents, explains and reads new words Ss listen, repeat and take notes T checks Ss’ vocabulary T sets the scene and asks Ss to guess what they are going to read T has Ss listen to the tape to check their answers above Ss practice reading the dialogue T asks to read the statements on page 122 and check the boxes Ss work in groups Ss give their answers 1. Warm-up: * Chatting: - Where should he/she go? .why? - Tom likes swimming and sunbathing - David is interested in ancient cities - Huck Leberry likes mountain - climbing - Oliver is keen on pottery - Robinson is fond of crowded places 2. Pre-writing: * Pre - teach vocabulary: - to fetch = to go to get S.th and bring it back - to yell = to shout loudly - to urge = to make a person move more quickly - to rub (mime) - to participate = to take part -> participation (n) - to award (situation) * Checking : What and where * Open prediction: - Questions: + How many competitions do people enter in a rice-cooking festival? + In water - festival competition , what do people do?
