Experience multi-cultural environment; - Practice and apply languages advantages while working; Besides, by acting as an export-import intership at Tan An company, these things listed below are also important: - Learning real knowledge about techniques of foreign trade; - Interacting with diverse types of works; - Being in touch with partners, customers, colleagues; - Creating a strong relationship with co-workers; - Being in common with office paper works 2.1 - Assigned tasks at the company: Importing turf grass seeds Finding general information about some kind of turf grass seeds Searching on the internet for general information (other names, distribution, other basic information) about: + Bermuda grass seeds + Arachis Glabrata grass seeds + Axonopus Compressus grass seeds  Results of this works was reported as a word file and submited to the Head of Department - Countries had exported these grass into Vietnam from the past: 27 Internship Report Hoang Thi Van Anh According to Vietnamese law, the Bermuda grass seeds and Arachis Glabrata grass are allowed to be imported from Thailand and Australia The other turf grass is not allowed to import into Vietnam nowadays  Continueing importing these two grass seeds: Bermuda and Arachis Glabrata 2.2 - Contacting with foreign partners Through the Internet, contacting with New South Wales Department of Primary Industries - Agriculture-related matters and Asian Turfgrass Center for asking information about some companies exporting these two kinds of grass seeds - There were Thailand company and Australian companies were listed by the replying e-mail from the two departments above: Table 6: list of foreign companies Thailand Australia Procrop T&O Co., Ltd - Hart Bros Seeds – New South Wales; – Bangkok, Thailand - AusWest Seeds – New South Wales; - Stephen Pasture Seeds – DE Lacombe, Victoria; - Heritage Seeds – Central Queens land; - Pasture Genetics – New South Wales; - PGG Wrightson Seeds Australia Pty Ltd – Victoria; - Smyth Seeds – Victoria - Contacting with exporting companies: + Firstly, going to the website and get their e-mail + After day of mailing to the exporting companies without replying, going on for calling directly to their Sale Department  The only company in Thailand: Procrop T&O had no that kind of grass seeds available for exporting 28 Internship Report Hoang Thi Van Anh  All companies in Australia replied that they have no that kind of seeds available  However, there was one Australian company: Heritage seeds in Central Queensland suggested that they have Arachis Pintoi which is the same kind with Arachis Glabrata After discussing with the Head of Export-Import department, there is an agreement of importing Arachis Pintoi - Providing Heritage information about Vietnamese law that can prove that Tan An is allowed to import Arachis Pintoi from Australia - Asking about the transportation method, the transportation fee and time for each type: + By sea: $8,500 to $11,000 / ton The transportation route will take about 17-25 days normally + By airline: $12,000 to $14,000 / ton The transportation route will take about 2-3 days if by express, or 5-7 days by transferring normally  Deal closed with the method of transportation was through airline because with the commodity of Turf Grass Seeds, if transport by sea, those seeds may bud from inside out before being grown - Asking and negotiating the price: + The initial price given by the Australian exporter was AUS$40.55/kg with FOB price, pay by L/C, selling will be implemented only when there are at least 200kg required + Negotiating the price: Because Tan An company was demanding one ton or more of Arachis Pintoi seeds, therefore the bargain of price seemed to be easier With a huge amount of seeds, Tan An company required to reduce the price down to AUS$43.5  Finally, it came to an end that both company agreed to trade one ton of Arachis Pintoi at AUS$43 with FOB price paid by L/C 29 Internship Report Hoang Thi Van Anh - Difficulty while implementing assigned tasks No information about Vietnamese law about exporting countries are allowed to export turf grass into Vietnam  Solution for this trouble: I had to ask for help from other colleagues in the department and one of them had introduced me to a member at Plant Protection Department of Vietnam – Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development That person friendly provided me a related document about quarantine plants that are allowed to import into Vietnam from foreign countries - No reply from foreign partners after e-mailing  Solution for the problem: directly call for companies’ offices and talked to the related department (Sale department and International Business department) - There was no problem when talking on phone with Australian companies but with Thailand company, there was a language difficulty between us  Solution for the problem: by giving them my private e-mail, they sent some information about their products and other related information - All Australian companies did not hear of Arachis Glabrata  I had found that in Australia, they not use the name Arachis Glabrata but they use Arachis Pintoi which is another name of the same kind of turf grass seeds 30 Internship Report Hoang Thi Van Anh D CHAPTER 4: ACHIEVEMENTS AFTER THE INTERNSHIP PERIOD Book knowledge and gained practical knowledge In doing international trade, there is normally the same knowledge that I have learnt from the lecture at University Thanks for subjects like International Trade Managements, Techniques of Foreign Trade, I have dealt well while acting as an importer in finding and negotiating relevant issues All techniques like about Incoterms 2010, about different documents (Letter of Credit, Bill of Lading,…) are seem to be very useful while I was implementing the assigned tasks Through this internship time, I have improved my own knowledge and help me to understand more about Export-Import activities In being familiar with professional working environment, those knowledge that I learnt from such kind of subjects as Business Communication, Business Culture, helped me to easier integrate with the working style at Tan An company Simultaneously, I was more confident in connecting and communicating with coworker there for not feeling of loneliness and boringness In writing internship report, those knowledge learnt from Financial Statement Analysis, Financial Management, Operational Management, Marketing Principles have become useful for writing this report when I need to analyzing Tan An’s financial statement, the value chain and also marketing mix -
