UNIT 6 (cont’d) Read I. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to know more about a youth organizations. The boy scouts of America (B.S.A). Morale: Educate sts to take part in some voluntary organizations for young people to help our community. Skills: speaking, reading, writing. II. Language contents: 1. Vocabulary: citizenship, fitness, coeducational, worldwide, voluntary, establish. 2. Grammar: gerunds. III. Teaching aids: Pictures, flip-chart. IV. Techniques: Brainstorm, T/F statements, pairwork. V. Time: 45ms. VI. Procedures: Teacher and Sts’ activities Contents 1. Warm-up: (Brainstorming). T asks sts the questions. Sts answer. T gives feedback * Questions: What social activities do the Y & Y in VietNam often do? - cleaning up streets. - taking part in sports. - helping handicapped people. - Planting the trees and the flowers. - watering the trees and the flowers. 2. Pre-reading: a. Pre-teach vocabulary: T elicits the vocabulary using explaination, translation, synonym. T drills pronunciation. T writes down the meanings. T checks. (slap the board) T reads. * Vocabulary: - citizenship (n) quyÒn c«ng d©n - fitness (n) thÓ lùc, t×nh tr¹ng søc kháe tèt - coeducational (adj) thuéc gd chung c¶ nam & n÷ - worldwide (. . .) toµn cÇu, trªn kh¾p thÕ giíi - voluntary (adj) t×nh nguyÖn Sts repeat (chorus & individual) - establish (v) = to start. - encourage (v) khuyÕn khÝch, gióp ®ì b. T/F statements prediction: T sticks the flip-chart with the statements on the blackboard and guess which is true, and which is false. Call some Sts to give their answers. * T/F statements. 1. The Boy Scout of America is a youth organization. 2. Scouting began in America. 3. William Boyce is a businessman in London. 4. Boys and girls can join BSA. 5. The Scouting association is the biggest voluntary youth organization in the world. 3. While-reading: T asks Sts to read the text and check their answers. T gives feedback. T asks Sts to correct false statements. * Answer: correct false statements: 1. T 2. F (Scout began in England). 3. F (William Boyce is an American businessman). 4. F (BSA is mainly for boys). 5. T T uses the flip-chart. T asks Sts to work in pairs to fill in the dates. Call some Sts to fill in the dates on the board. T gives feedback. T asks Sts to read the text one more time. Sts work in pairs to ask and answer the questions. Call some pairs to present infront the class. Call other Sts write the answers on the board. T gives feedback. * Fill in the missing dates: a) 1907 b) 1909 c) 1910 d) 1994 * Answer: a) Scout began in England in 1907. b) The meeting between a boy scout and Mr.William Boyce. Let to the Scouts association crossing the Atlantic in 1910. c) The three aims are building charaacter, good citizen ship and personal fitress. 4. Post-reading: (survery) T asks Sts to work in groups of 5 to compare two organization Y & Y and the BSA. Prompts: foundation, activities, members/ participants age, nationalities.
