Chu Van An Primary school Trần Hùng Dũng Grade Week UNIT 3: AT THE STREET MARKET Period Lesson I Objectives: * By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + correctly pronounce the name of the letter A/a + correctly pronounce the name of the letter A /a in isolation and in the words hat, apple, can, bag + recognize the words in different situations when listening - Ss can develop some following competences: + Communicative and collaborative competence: act 1,3,4 + Problem-solving competence: act 1,3 + Self-studying and self-control competence: act 2, 3,4 + Problem-solving and creative competence: act * Language focus: - Sound: A - Vocabulary:  hat, apple, can, bag - Differentiated teaching: + Incomplete ss: can pronounce the name of the letter A / a in the words hat, apple, can, bag + Well-completed ss: can recognize the words in different situations when listening II Materials: - Teacher’s: books, pictures, flashcards, CD - Students’: books, crayons III Method: - Communicative Language Teaching - Total Physical Response - Natural Approach - 3Ps III Teaching activities: Activity 1: Warm up - Sing a song Activity 2: - Content Listen and repeat a Teaching the letter A/a - Procedure: + Have Ss point to the letter A/a explain that the name of the letter C/c is different to its sound A/a + Encourage Ss to repeat several times b Set the scence: - Procedure: Chu Van An Primary school Trần Hùng Dũng Grade + Have pupils look at the picture and describe it Draw pupils’ attention to the letter A/a as apple and other words next to the things and the color of the letter + As A/a pupils to point to the letter C/c Have them listen and repeat the sound of the letter A/a + Show the picture and elicit the answer of who the characters are + Tell pupils to point to the and the word apple Ask them to listen and repeat the word + Repeat the same procedure with the bag, the can and the hat Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to the task + Play the recording again and have them listen, point to the letter A/a and the bag, can and hat and repeat until they feel confident Correct pronunciation, if necessary + Play the recording again and call some pupils to say the letter A/a and the words bag, hat, can, apple in front of the class Activity 3: Content 2: Point and say - Procedure: + Have pupils look at the picture again, saying Look at the picture on Page 14, please! Ask them to describe the picture again + Get them to point to the letter A/a and say it, saying Point + Let them point to the apple and say apple, saying Point to the can and say, please! + Repeat the same procedure with the bag, the hat Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to the task + Ask pupils to work in pairs or in group + Invite some pupils to point to the picture and say the sound of the letter and the words in front of the class Activity 4: - Fun corner: play a game “pelmanism” with the words: apple, can, bag, hat - Procedure: + Divide class into two groups + Congratulate the winner  Consolidation: - Content: Review the letter A/a and words (can, bag, hat) - Procedure: + Ask Ss to answer the following questions: - What have you learnt from the lesson today? - What are the core values of the lesson? Then play the recording for them to listen and repeat until they feel confident + Follow the same procedure with the other lines Show pupils how to chant and clap their hands + Play the recording all the way through Ask pupils to listen and repeat the chant individually and in chorus, saying Listen and chant, please! Give further support to those Chu Van An Primary school Trần Hùng Dũng Grade pupils who find it difficult Activity 3: - Content 4: Listen and circle - Procedure: + Select some pupils to the front of the class to chant and clap their hands The rest of the class may sing the chant along and clap their hands + Have pupils look at the first two pictures and say what they can see Draw pupils’ attention to the boxes next to the letters a and b Check comprehension + Play the recording of the first sentence for pupils to listen + Encourage some pupils to point to the pictures and say the words in front of the class + Ask pupils to say what they have heard and ticked + Ask pupils to share their idea with their partner + Call some to go to the board and write their answers Activity 4: - Content 5: Look and trace - Procedure: + Have pupils look at the letter A (upper case) and a (lower case) Write the upper case A and the lower case a on the board + Write the upper case A and the lower case c in broken lines on the board + Tell pupils to trace the letter A/a , saying Now use your pencil to trace the letter A/a + Check the results of pupils’ tracing and give feedback Ask pupils to work in pairs and swap their answers + Ask some pupils to show what they have done Praise them if they have done well  Consolidation: - Content: Review phrases and the chant + Phrases: phrase an apple, in the bag, on the hat + Chant - Procedure: + Ask students to answer the following questions: - What have you learnt from the lesson today? What are the core values of the lesson?
