UNIT 13: Mm Lesson

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ps will be able to:

- Recognize and pronounce the letter Mm and its sound correctly - Understand, recognize and say the three Mm words

- Write the letter Mm

- * Handicapped Ss- Hải Vân (1B): will be able to recognize the letter Mm, listen and repeat vocab and colour with teacher’s help

1 Language focus:

- Vocabulary: moon, mouse, milk 2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: Pupil's book, CD, phonic cards, milk, word cards 2 Student: pupil's book, page 58-59

III METHODS: P.P.P, games, chant IV PROCEDURE:

1 Organization (1’): - Greet Ps

- Check Ps’ attendance

- Put the phonics cards from the previous lesson on the board - Below the cards, write the words without the beginning letters

- Ask some individuals come to the board and find the beginning letter to complete each word

3 New lesson (27’):

Activity (10’):

- Use a card with letter Mm (or write on board the letter Mm) to introduce to the Ps the new lesson - Instruct Ps how to pronounce the letter name and

the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter M

1 Listen, point and repeat Colour.

/em/, the letter M says /m /.”

- Repeat several times and check Ps’ pronunciation (letter M /em/ and its sound /m/)

- Use the phonics cards with moon, mouse, and milk, read the words out loud and have Ps repeat

- Use gestures to help Ps to understand the meanings of the three words

- Stick the cards on board and have Ps repeat the words

- Call some Ps to say the words aloud

* Handicapped Ss (Hải Vân – 1B): recognize the letter Mm and the words with m sound, read with teacher’s help

Check the vocabulary: Sit and Stand Game

- Show the phonics cards one by one For example, show the card with moon, but incorrectly say mouse or milk, the Ps will stand and say No; if the words are correctly said, they will stay sitting and say Yes

Activity (12’)

- Have students look at the book and listen to the expression: “Can you see the moon?”

- Have students point to the objects when they hear - Have students listen and repeat the sentence for

several times - Give feedback

- Do the same procedure with the other words

- Ask Ps to colour the moon, the mouse and milk using any colour they like

- Go around the classroom and check

* Handicapped Ss (Hải Vân – 1B): listen and point, then colour with teacher’s help

Follow up: memory game

- Stick three words on the board in a random order - Get Ps to memorize the order then put them away - Ask individual to read three words following the

corresponding order

- Change the order of the words and continue the procedure

- Chant and show! (5’)

- Use the phonics cards on the board and have Ps sing the chant with moon Do the same with mouse and milk

- The whole class sings the whole chant Do the chant again using gestures for each word

- Give feedback

* Handicapped Ss: read the chant with teacher’s help

4 Consolidation (3’): Writing in the air

- Show the letter Mm again, have Ps write the Mm in air with their fingers 5 Homework: Ask pupils to practice the letter Mm and the sound at home. VI Evaluation:

UNIT 13: Mm Lesson

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: - Recognize and say the three Mm words correctly

- Do the corresponding actions - Read the story

- Sing letter Mm song

- * Handicapped Ss- Hải Vân (1B): will be able to recognize the letter Mm, listen and repeat vocab and colour with teacher’s help

1 Language focus:

- Vocabulary: moon, mouse, milk

2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing

3 Attitude: Teach Ps to have positive attitude in study. II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: pupils' book, CD, phonic cards 2 Student: Pupil’s book – p.60

2 Warm up (5’):

- Show the phonics cards, ask students to corresponding actions then say the sound of the letter and words

E.g Teacher: Show the ‘moon’ card

Class: “moon", imitate looking at the sky

- Have students sing the chant in lesson 1, keep the rhythm by clapping their hands and gesturing

3 New lesson (26’):

Activity (15’): Lead-in:

- Hold up the phonics cards one at a time, partly hidden by a sheet of paper

- Slowly reveal the phonics card

- Students try to guess what the phonics card is Listen And Read Along:

- Get Ps to look at the picture and set the situation. - Play the CD The Ps listen and point to the pictures

of the key words

- Teacher reads the printed words then let the Ps look at the pictures and say the words

- Ask Ps work in pairs One reads while the other checks, then they swap roles

- Go around the classroom to help

* Handicapped Ss (Hải Vân – 1B): recognize the letter Mm and the words with m sound, read with teacher’s help

Saying the Sight Words:

- Point to and say the sight words can, you, see, the, on, with, some

- Have pupils repeat

- Have some pupils read them aloud Follow up: draw it

- Divide the class into two teams

- Ask one Ps from each team, to come to the board - Name a vocabulary item The Ps quickly draw it - The student who finishes first wins a point for

his/her team

- The team with the most points wins Activity (11’):

- Put up the moon, mouse and milk phonics cards on

4 Listen and read along

Sight words:

an, you, see, the, on, with, some

- Point to the mouse and say: “Mandy Mouse is on the moon!” The students repeat.

- Do the same procedure with the rest of the song - Play the CD The students listen and sing along - Play the CD again The students sing and

corresponding actions

4 Consolidation (4’): speed race

- Put three chairs in front of the board Put a phonics card on each chair

- Divide class into three teams A, B, C Have a student from each team stand up

- Call out one of the phonics card The students standing try to sit on the chair with the corresponding phonics card

- The first student to sit on the chair wins a point for his/ her team - The team with the most points wins

5 Homework: Ask pupils to practice reading the story and sing the song at home. VI Evaluation:
