BACKGROUND Bronchoscopy with 2 sources of light (white and fluorescence) is an advance in diagnosis of lung cancer. The results of many previous studies have shown that the effectiveness of fluorescent light is better than white one. Especially, the efficiency of bronchoscopy in detection of lung cancer increased clearly when combining these two sources of light. In Vietnam, the studies, having the aim to detection of lung cancer in community actively, were less due to the lack of finance. Many studies concentrated in diagnosis and treatment of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and target therapy but there were not many authors who studied the effectiveness of fluorescent bronchoscopy in diagnosis of suspected lung cancer. The National Lung Hospital, being the last line in the network to prevent lung cancer, receives directly patients with suspected lung cancer from other lines. Therefore, we carried out the research: “Study of clinical, paraclinical characteristics and results of fluorescence bronchoscopy in patients with suspected lung cancer”with two aims: 1. Study of clinical, paraclinical characteristics and some tumour markers in patients with suspected lung cancer. 2. Assessment of the results in diagnosis of lung cancer by bronchial mucosal biopsy via fluorescent bronchoscopy in patients with suspected lung cancer. * New contributions of the research: - Defined characteristics of clinical symptoms, computed tomography (CT) images and levels of some tumour markers in patients with suspected lung cancer, which had the value ofsuggested diagnosis, such as: hemoptysis (18.34%), chest pain (44.38%); most of lesions in chest CT images were mass(54.49%);the levels of tumour markers increased significantly in the group of suspected lung cancer. The results showed that the proportion of lung cancer in the group of suspected ones was very high (76.40%). - Results in diagnosisof lung cancer by bronchial mucosal biopsy via fluorescent bronchoscopy in patients with suspected lung cancer: + The decrease of signal in fluorescent bronchoscopy had the sensitivity and specificity in diagnosis of lung cancer of 83.82% and 65.13%, higher than bronchoscopy with white light (72.79%; 69.72%). + The effectiveness in diagnosis of lung cancer, when performing biopsy in the mucosal area of decreased fluorescent signal, was significant higher in comparison with white light bronchoscopy, with the proportions following 97/152 (63.82%) and 39/132 (29.55%) (p
