LY THUONG KIET SECONDARY SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHING PLAN WEEK: 27 PERIOD: 81 UNIT 13: FESTIVALS P.D: LESSON 4: WRITE T.D: I. Objectives • By the end of the lesson , students will be able to write a report on a festival they have joined • Take part in the school activities well II.Language Focus 1.Vocabulary: + marching a procession of lanterns ( n ) + Chinese dragon dance( n ) + the mid - autumn festival ( n ) 2. Grammar : past simple tense . III. Teaching aids: text book, pictures IV. Procedures Stages Activities Work arrangement 1.Warm up 5’ Memory game - Show the photocopied picture to Ss and ask them to observe it carefully. - Let Ss look at the picture for 30 seconds then put it away. - Divide the class into two groups. - Ask Ss to listen to the questions: 1. How many people are there in the picture? What are they doing? 2. Name all things in the picture. - Put the picture on the board again . - Give feedback and correct. Answer key: 1. They are participating in the rice-cooking competition . 2. rice,basket,pans,bamboo sticks ,paper fans, chopsticks ,a flag. Groupwork 2. Pre- Writing 12’ Write I.Lucky numbers : - Write 9 numbers on the board from 1 to 8. - Tell Ss each number is for a question but 2 of them are lucky numbers .If Ss choose a lucky number ,they do not have to answer any question but they get 2 points and they can get another number. - Divide the class into two teams. How many competitions are therein the rice –cooking festival? What are they? - water –fetching ,fire- making, rice-cooking 3.What do people use to fetch water ? - bottle 4.Do they use pieces of wood to make fire ? -No. pieces of bamboo 5.What do people have to do before they cook rice ? -separate the rice from the husk. 6.How many people are there altogether in a team taking part in the rice –cooking festival? - one for water –fetching ,two for fire –making and six for rice -cooking II. Gap filling - Ask Ss to use the information in the dialogue on page 121 to fill in the gaps in the report on page 127. - Have Ss read the report and fill in the gaps . Give feedback and correct . Questions and answers - Ask Ss to write a similar report on a festival they’ve joined recently. - Have Ss look at the questions on page 127. - Let Ss practise speaking first by answering the questions from a-f. - Ask Ss to report the Mid –autumn festival . - Give some new words : march in a procession of lanterns, Chinese dragon dance, moon cakes . - Have Ss connect the sentences to make it a report . * Suggestion: This report shows how the mid- Autumn festival was held in my neighborhood. The Mid –Autumn festival was held on the 15 th of August GRADE 8 2 LY THUONG KIET SECONDARY SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHING PLAN (according to Lunar Calendar ).This festival was specially organized for children. It was held in the yard of the cultural house in my village.The main festival lasted for about three hours when the moon is at its fullest. During the festival, children took part in various activities like : singing ,shouting ,wearing masks, marching in a procession of lanterns and banging the drums. Besides, children ate a very special cake called Moon cakes Children went on playing traditional games until mid –night This festival was a very special occasion for Vietnamese people and especially for children to play and enjoy on a variety of activities. It helped children understand more about Vietnamese traditions. 4. Post- Writing 5’ - Ask Ss to stick the writing on the board . - Ask one student of each group to read their report aloud. - Give feedback and correct Ss ’errors. V. Objectives • By the end of the lesson , students will be able to use reported speech and the passive form in the past , present and future tenses • Learn many new words as much as they can II. Procedures Stages Activities Work arrangement 1.Warm up 3’ * Moral lesson Pelmanism : infinitive –past participle - Prepare 12 cardboards , numbered from 1 to 1 on one side and the words on the other side . -Stick the cardboards on the board showing the numbered side . - Divide the class into 2 teams and ask each team to choose 2 numbers ,one in the first row and one in the second row. If the words in both cards match in sequence of an infinitive with its past participle ,this team will get a point . put –put , write –written , hold –held , make –made, break – broken, award – awarded * Learn many new words as much as they can Groupwork *Presentation 10’ Language focus 1 I.
