Unit 13 SEAGame Speaking Objective: - By the end of the lesson, students are able to express attitudes towards something. - By the end of the lesson, students feel more confident talking about something. Skills: - Speaking: expressing attitudes towards something; sharing ideas. Teaching aids: - handouts. Stage Procedure Aims I. Warm- up II. Pre- speaking Game: How do they feel? - Arrange SS to work in two or four groups. - Present the faces, one at a time, and ask SS to say how one point. - The first group to call out the correct expression wins one point. - The group with the most point wins the game. - Keep a running total of points for each group on the board. - Declare the winner. Transition: Facial expressions can tell us how we feel, what our attitudes are. But we often use language together with body language. To day we will practice expressing attitudes in English. - Write on the board: Unit 13 Speaking- Expressing attitudes toward the results of SEA Game Introducing useful language - Tell SS to read the expression given in the box and add more. - Note down SS ideas on the board and add more if any. - Have SS listen to you and repeat if necessary. - Remind SS of the intonation. Useful Expressions o Expressing surprise or excitement : . . . . (How) Wonderful! It is incredible! I can not believe my ears / eyes! It was great! o Expressing disappointment : - To raise SS interest, and to introduce the topic - To draw SS attention to the key function. - To provide language input for speaking activities later III. Activity 1 : Comparing results ( Task a, p. 167) - Have SS read the medal tables of the SEA Game. - Ask SS to work with a partner and compare the results of countries in the two SEA Game. - Tell SS to compare answers in small groups. - Call on SS give their opinions and check with the class. ( Students personal answers) Activity 2: Reporting results and expressing attitudes (Task b, p. 169) - Put SS into small groups. - Call on SS to read the examples. - Have SS work in groups and report the results of the countries in the two SEA Game with an expression of their attitude. - Call on some students to report and express their attitudes. - Invite class opinions and give feedback and comments. (Students is personal answers) Activity 3: Personalization ( Task c, p. 169) - Tell SS to work in groups of four or five. - Have SS report to their friends the results of recent sporting events in their local area or their school and express their attitude. - Move around to control and give help if needed. - Call on SS to report and express their attitudes toward the results of some sport events. - Give feedback and comments. Writing - Have SS work individually and write a few sentences reporting the results of some sport event and express their attitudes toward the results. - Tell SS to swap their sentences with their partners and check for each other. - Call on SS to read their sentences and invite the class to give comments. - Give feedback and comment.
