UNIT 13: FILMS AND CINEMA
SPEAKING
(1 period – 45 minutes)
Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
- Know more vocabulary about kinds of films and adjectives about feeling
- Ask and answer about films and cinema, express the attitudes about a film
- Improve their speaking skill
Teaching Method: Communicative approach.
Teaching Aids: Textbook, computer, speaker, handouts, etc.
Procedure:
I Warm up: (7 minutes)
- Invite Ss to join a simple activity: Guessing the
Name of The Film
- Play the trailers of 5 films
- Ask Ss to answer what the title of each film is and
what kind of film is it
* The films’ title:
+ Tom and Jerry.
+ Boys over flowers.
+ Avatar.
+ Rush hour.
+ Harry Potter.
* Lead: You have just seen some titles of films that
you know To help you talk or comment about a film,
we will start our lesson today: Unit 13 – Films and
Cinema – Speaking
- Work individually
- Watch carefully each trailer, raise hand and give the correct answer
- Each student who gives the correct answer will receive a present
Suggested answers:
+ Tom and Jerry – Cartoon film.
+ Boys over flowers – Love story film.
+ Avatar – Science fiction film + Rush hour – Action film.
+ Harry Potter – Thriller film.
II Pre-speaking: (10 minutes)
- Give each student a handout and ask them to do it
quickly

Task 1: (10 minutes)
Activity 1:
- Give some emoticons enclosed its adjective and ask
Ss to give the Vietnamese equivalent

Activity 2:
- Ask Ss to look at the table in Task 2, page 135, use
the kinds of films in column A and the adjectives in
column B to make a dialogue with 3 Ss a group
- Show a sample dialogue for Ss to practice speaking
easily

- Read carefully the table in Task 2, page 135
- Create a dialogue using the table and practice with their partners
- Raise hand and play the dialogue in front of the class
Task 2: (5 minutes)
- Show a sample dialogue and ask Ss to base on it and
kinds of films Ss have just learned to make their own
conversation
Ex: A: Which do you prefer, cartoon films or science
fiction films?
B: Well, it’s difficult to say But I suppose I prefer
science fiction films to cartoon ones.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs
- Have Ss practice on 3 minutes and then play the
conversation in front of the class
- Give feedbacks
- Work in pairs
- Create a conversation basing on the sample dialogue and the kinds of films they have just learned
- Practice the conversation with their partners
- Raise hand and play the conversation in front of the class
III Post speaking: (10 minutes)
Trang 3- Ask Ss to open the textbook, page 135, Task 4.
- Have Ss practice talking about a film they have seen,
using the questions provided in Task 4
- Review some questions that Ss have learned in Task
1, Task 2 and Task 3
- Ask Ss to use these questions to make their
conversation effectively, combining some questions in
Task 4
- Ask Ss to work in pairs, practice on 3 minutes
- Call some pairs stand up and talk about their films
- Give feedback
- Work in pairs
- Talking about a film they have seen
- Practice with their partner on 3 minutes
- Stand up and speak aloud their conversation
+ Suggestion:
A: Which film do you like best?
B: Oh, I like the film “Boys over flowers” best.
A: Where did you see it?
B: I saw it on the Internet.
A: Really, What kind of film is it?
B: That is a love story film.
A: Who are the main characters?
B: The main characters are Gu Jun Pyo and Geum Jan Di
A: How do you feel about it?
B: It’s is exciting and moving.
A: Why do you prefer it to other films?
B: Because 4 main characters are very handsome.
