Facebook bans bare buttocks, allows selling guns The world’s largest social network has rewritten its guidelines on what is and is not allowed in order to avoid confusion. Monika Bicket, Facebooks global head of content policy, said in a blog post that “people from different backgrounds may have different ideas about what’s appropriate to share”. It has now rewritten its guidelines, expanding on the previous list with more information. But the site insists that the policies themselves haven’t changed, only that the list has been updated to provide more “detail and clarity”. Here are some of the updated rules:

Here are some of the updated rules: Terrorism and crime If your organisation is "dangerous", meaning that it's involved in violent, criminal or hateful behaviour, then it will be banned from Facebook. As an individual you're also prohibited from expressing support for any such groups. That includes praising their leaders or condoning their activity. You're also banned from bragging about crimes that you've committed, or using the site to plan them. You can, however, use the site to sell guns, as long as you "comply with all applicable laws". Graphic violence Whether you are allowed to post images of graphic violence depends on your motive: if it's to highlight concern over human rights abuse or terrorism, then it's fine, if it's for "sadistic pleasure or to celebrate or glorify violence" then it's banned. Hate speech You can't post anything which directly threatens a person. And you can't promote hate against people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or medical condition. Nudity Facebook restricts nudity because “some audiences within our global community may be sensitive to this type of content”. So you can’t post images of exposed genitals or buttocks. Female breasts are also forbidden if you show nipples – unless they are “actively engaged in breastfeeding or showing breasts with post-mastectomy scarring”. Facebook does, however, allow images of paintings or sculptures that depict nude figures.
