II ADJECTIVES AND ADVERBS:

Adj + ly = Adverb of manner

Eg: slow + ly -> slowly

happy + ly -> happily

* Adjectives can come in two places in

a sentence:

+Before a noun : a beautiful girl, a new hospital

+ After the verbs : be, look, appear,

seem, feel, taste, sound, smell

* If there is no object, the adverb

goes after the verb.

Adverbs: normally go after

the direct object.

1 He drives very (careful /carefully).

2 She was (unhappy/unhappily)

3 They speak English quite (good/ well)

4 Our oceans are becoming (extreme/extremely) polluted
