What kinds of sports are in the pictures? 2. Where can people play these sports? 3. How do people play them? 4. Which sport do you think is more popular? - Leads in new lesson: Water sports - Look at pictures and answer all the questions - Answer freely 2. Lead-in: How many words are in water sports? II/ PROCEDURE 4 Tanh Linh high school Lesson plan English 12 TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES WARM UP ( 5 mins) + Ask Ss to write five water sports they enjoy doing most. + Listen to the teacher and tick the words they hear. If Ss have all the five words ticked first , they will win the game. + Give feedback • LEAD IN Do you do any water sports ? Are you good at swimming ? What is the water sport in the picture ? Is it played in a swimming pool or in a sea ? Is it played with or without equipment ? Is it played individually or in a team ? + To day you are going to listen for synchronized swimming . PRE-LISTENING ( 7 mins) Pre-teaching vocabulary + Ask Ss to liten and repeat chorally and individually WHILE –LISTENING ( 22mins) Activity 1: Choose the correct answer + Tell them to hear a woman talking about Sunchronized Swimming. + Ask Ss to listen to the tape the circle the most appropriate option to complete the sentences. + Ask Ss to read the sentences carefully and guess the answers before listening + Play the tape (twice) + Ask SS to say out the answers . Copy them on the board + Let Ss listen to the tape again and check their answers Activity2: Questions and Answers + Ask Ss to work in pairs + Ask them to read all the questions loud then listen and answer the questions Work in groups Tick the words they hear on the board Suggested answers Swimming / water polo / windsurfing / rowing / jet-skiing / synchronized swimming / sailing / water skiing / surfing / body-boarding / water rafting . Move around to give help if necessary. POST-LISTENING ( 10 mins) Guessing the game + Divide the class into groups + Choose one of the sports to talk about. Try to give as much infiormation on the game as possible. The other groups guess the name of the sport. • Suggested ideas. + It is the most popular sport in the world. + People often play it in a field + The game is played by two teams of ten players and agoal keeper . the ball can be advanced by kicking up and down the playing field . SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING The great Australian swimmer, Annette Kellerman, student at the University of Wisconsin, planted the first seed of what was to become synchronized swimming when she performed a water ballet in a glass tank in New York in 1907. Katherine Curtis, an American woman, was very inspired by the new water sport. So she tried to get synchronized swimming added to the physical education programme for female students. In 1923 she founded a water ballet club at the University of Chicago and sixty swimmers of the club attracted national and international publicity. The sport quickly became popular among young women in Chicago. Curtis developed the competition rules, based essentially on the scoring methods used in gymnastics and diving. The first recorded competition was held on May 27, 1939, between Chicago Teacher's College coached by Curtis and Wright Junior College of Illinois. Shortly afterwards, the Central Association of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) staged the first multi-team competition on March 1, 1940. The following year, the AAU officially accepted synchronized swimming as a competitive sport for team events. In 1946 the first formal national championships were conducted by the AAU. III/ PROCEDURE TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES WARM UP( 3mins) +Divide the class into two groups + Choose two representatives from the two groups to go to the board in the front with their back to the board + Write a word on the board and ask the groups to explain , descibe or define the word in any ways so that their team mates on the board can speak out the word. + Some words to guess 1. Swimming 2. Water polo 3. Windsurfing 4. rowing 5. Sailing • LEAD IN What do you often do before practising these sports ? Today we will have to write the instructions for warming up exercises before swimming . PRE-WRITING ( 5 mins) 1. Chatting . Raise some questions and ask Ss to answer 1. Do you like swimming ? 2. where do you often go swimming ? 3. How long can you swimmer ? 4. Do you do warming up exercise before swimming ? 5. What exercise do you often do ? How do you do it ? Read the sentences carefully and mathc an appropriate action with a sentence Ask Ss to compare their answers together then say them out. +In pairs again, Let Ss look at the pictures then say out the instructions. 2. Activity 2 : Group work +Ask Ss to work in groups . + Tell them to look at the pictures and the cues then give the instructions on each action. + +Ask SS to exchange their writings Tell Ss in each group to read and make corrections if needed and choose the best one. II/ PROCEDURE TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES WARM UP ( 5 mins) Game : obeying instructions -Divide the class into two groups A and B -Invite some volunteers from each groups to the front of the class. -Tell them they have to obey and follow the opponents’ instructions on how to do morning exercise. -Each group that has the suitable actions for instructions will win the game 1.
