In the current conditions, when integrating and globalizing the world economyis developing strongly, international business and logistics has become anobjective necessity for every country Especially, import and export freightforwarding activities are increasingly integral, an indispensable link in goodstrade that helps promote the establishment of networks of countries andcreate mutually interdependent relationships In that context, foreign tradegoods forwarding activities have appeared and gradually played an importantrole in economic activities.

As a student majoring in International Business and Logistics of ISE in VietnamMaritime University, I have learned and accumulated a lot of basic knowledgerelated to Logistics activities, but applying that knowledge and experience intopractice is a challenge There are still many limitations in reality For thisreason, this internship will open a vital, practical environment for students,helping us easily to get acquainted with the work environment in our ownfield As a result, I can apply the experience and knowledge that I have learnedto study, work and have myself enhancement, which is the corner stone offinding a job in the future.

During my internship from 22/02/2024 to 23/03/2024, I received a lot ofassistances from the instructors of the Vietnam Maritime University, theenthusiasm of T.H.I group Vietnam Hai Phong company’s staff I have relativelygrasped the company's operation, learned the specific business processes atthe company and have precious and unforgettable memories about workingmanner and attitude at the company during internship All the valuableexperience and knowledge in this internship will be summarized in the reportwith the topic "The freight forwarding process of imported FCL shipment atT.H.I group Vietnam Hai Phong”

Due to limited internship time and lack of practical experience, the errors inthe report is inevitable I look forward to receiving your comments to make thereport more completed The content of this report will be summerize byfollowing chapters:

CHAPTER 1: THEORETICAL BACKGROUND OF FREIGHTFORWARDING

1.1Theoretical background of Logistics

1.1.2 Definition Of FCL

Full Container Load (FCL) is used in the international shipping industry forexporting and importing ocean freight According to Mr Tran Thanh Hai-Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry andTrade) in Vietnam, this term is used when talking about packing goods intocontainers, when an owner uses up the entire space of the container to sendhis goods Thus, a container will have only one shipper Large businesseswith a large volume of goods often pack goods using this method Thismethod is often called "full container packing" (full container packing).

1.1.3 Definition Of Freight Forwarding

According to the FIATA (International Federation of Freight ForwardersAssociations), freight forwarding services are defined as any type of servicerelated to transportation, consolidation, storage, loading, packaging ordistribution of goods as well as consulting services or related to the aboveservices, including customs issues, finance, insurance, payment, andcollecting documents related to goods Briefly, forwarding is a collection of

move goods from the place of delivery (shipper) to the place of receipt(consignee) Forwarders can perform services directly or through agents andhire services from other third parties

The person performing the delivery operation can perform one of the followingtasks on behalf of the consignor or consignee:

-Prepare goods for transport;

-Organize the transportation of goods within the station and port;-Organize loading and unloading of goods;

-Storage and preservation of goods;

-Consulting for shippers in transporting goods;

-Sign a transport contract with the carrier, charter a ship, store freight;-Carry out procedures for sending and receiving goods;

-Carry out customs and quarantine procedures;-Buy insurance for goods;

-Prepare necessary documents during the shipping and receiving process;-Pay;

-Receive goods from the goods owner, deliver them to the carrier and deliverthem -to the consignee;

-Collect goods;

-Helping shippers in making complaints for compensation

1.1.4 Definition of Freight Forwarder

According to FIATA's "Model Rules for Freight Forwarding Services," afreight forwarder is involved in various activities related to the carriage,

consolidation, storage, handling, packing, or distribution of goods.Additionally, they provide ancillary and advisory services in connection withthese activities, including:

 Declaring goods for official purposes

1.2 Related documents

1.2.1 Sales contract

“A contract for the sale of goods is an agreement under which the seller isobliged to deliver the goods, transfer ownership of the goods to the buyerand receive payment; The buyer has the obligation to pay the seller, receivethe goods and take ownership of the goods according to the agreement"(Article 3, Clause 8) in Vietnam Commercial Law 2005

This is an important and indispensable document in the set of import andexport documents, drawn up by the seller or buyer and drafted by the twoparties The foreign trade contract shows basic information including:

- Subjects of the contract: are the seller and the buyer; They can benatural persons, legal entities and in special cases can be the State

information about the goods such as product name, quantity, unitprice, packaging specifications.

- Content of the contract: is the entire obligation of the parties intransferring ownership of the goods, as well as delivering the goods tothe buyer and making payment to the seller.

- Conditions for handover in foreign trade contracts: form of delivery,documentary constraints, complaints if any

- Form of contract: can be expressed verbally, in writing or establishedby specific acts

- A contract for the sale of goods is a bilateral contract, withindemnification and a prospective contract

1.2.2 Booking comfirmation

Booking is a procedure in the transportation process, essentially it is thecargo owner making a reservation with the shipping company orinternational shipping company In case of using the service, the goodsowner will get the booking form from Forwarder or can get it directly fromthe shipping company Once the price has been accepted, the forwarder willrely on the customer's order request - booking request to send the bookingrequest to the booking shipping line Once the booking is confirmed, theshipping line will send the Booking confirmation form to the Forwarder Thebooking confirmation shows important information that the shipper mustpay attention to and check carefully such as: number of containers, type ofcontainer, ship departure date, ship arrival date, ship name - trip number,departure port, arrival port , cut-off time, where to pick up empty containers,where to unload containers

1.2.3 Commercial invoice

A commercial invoice is a required document for the export and importclearance process It is sometimes used for foreign exchange purposes In thebuyer’s country, it is the document that is used by their customs officials toassess import duties and taxes The invoice has important information suchas: specific information of exporter-importer, invoice number, date of issue,shipping method, delivery conditions, payment conditions, quantity of goodsand price

1.2.4 Packing list

Packing list, also known as packing slip, is a document used in transportinggoods It provides detailed information about the items being shipped,making it easier to inspect, track and handle goods.

1.2.5 Shipping instruction

Shipping instruction (SI) is the shipping/delivery instruction informationfrom the exporter/shipper to the shipping/forwarding company Make surethe forwarder transports the goods according to the shipper's requirements.And limit the above errors on other delivery documents, especially on the billof lading Shipping Line/Forwarder companies will require Shipper to sendSI to make a draft Bill of Lading After that, the draft will be sent to thecustomer to check and ask the customer to confirm the information on thatDraft B/L Customers sending goods must pay attention to the SI cut-off timeotherwise they may be fined or have their goods dropped

Some important information on the SI: Booking date and number, Name ofdesignated carrier, Name of exporter (Shipper), Name of importer(Consignee) abroad, Name of goods, Quantity and type packaging, Net weightand VGM + CBM (1CBM = 1m3), Loading port, Loading port, Delivery time,Delivery location, Freight payment method (prepaid or after goods arrive ).

1.2.6 Verified Gross Mass

VGM (Verified Gross Mass) in import and export of goods is a receiptconfirming the entire mass (Gross Weight) of both the container and thegoods This document is specified in SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea convention)- the convention for the safety of human life at sea, requiring the shipper toundergo VGM before the goods can be loaded on the ship VGM is forshipping companies to know the weight of cargo containers, so they cancontrol the load and perform loading and unloading work on and off the ship.If the weight of the goods exceeds the allowable packing capacity, the

shipping company has the right to refuse to transport the goods, or mayrequest that the goods be removed before being loaded onto the ship.

On the VGM slip there is some important information such as: Shipper name address - phone number, Container parameters - container number,container type, largest volume, confirmation of largest volume

-1.2.7 Customs Declaration

Customs declaration is an indispensable procedural document when exportingor importing a shipment Without this declaration, all activities related toimport and export must stop The goods owner must declare details of thegoods to the Customs authority Customs declaration helps state agencies makestatistics and manage goods and means of import and export and is the basisfor tax calculation for businesses The content in the declaration is quite a lotand complex, so it requires someone with professional expertise to be able tocomplete the information correctly and with all the information Contents inthe declaration such as: Declaration number, inspection classification code,type code, branch code, declaration registration date; name and address of theexporter or importer; Detailed information about the shipment such as bill,storage location, loading and unloading location, means of transportation,arrival date, quantity of goods ; commercial invoice, invoice value; Taxes andtax in this part, after we enter the details of the items, the system automaticallyoutputs them to us; section for customs system returns; notes section oncustoms declaration; list of goods

1.2.8 Bill of lading

A bill of lading (BL or BoL) is a legal document issued by a carrier(transportation company) to a shipper that details the type, quantity, anddestination of the goods being carried A bill of lading also serves as ashipment receipt when the carrier delivers the goods at a predetermineddestination This document must accompany the shipped products, no

matter the form of transportation, and must be signed by an authorizedrepresentative from the carrier, shipper, and receiver

1.2.9 CO ( Certificate of origin)

A certificate of origin (CO) is a document declaring in which countrya commodity or good was manufactured The certificate of origin containsinformation regarding the product, its destination, and the country of export.
