C Procedure

Warm-up

* Lucky numbers

- Class is divided into 2 teams

- Teacher prepares 7 numbers which includes 5 questions about their school, and 2 lucky numbers

- Each team takes turns, chooses a number and answers the question behind the number If the team answers the question correctly, they will get 1 point If the team chooses the lucky number, they get 1 point without answering the question and get another turn

Suggested question:

Task 1: Listen and read the short conversation below, paying attention to the highlighted parts.

- Teachers lets students listen and read the dialogue, asks them what the characters say when they hear good news from other people

- Teacher calls some students to share their opinions

- Teacher gives more explanations and writes down the structure of expressing and responding to congratulations

Lesson 5 : SKILLS 1

I OBJECTIVES:

1 Knowledge: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

- Develop reading skill for general and specific information about Pelé;

- Talk about famous sports people

2 Competence: Students will be able to pratice reading and speaking about a famous sportsperson.

3 Quality: the love for doing sports and games they play in daily life Having a good behavior

toward sports/ games , the fair play and friend ship in doing sports

III PROCEDURES :

* New lesson:

I Warm up: chatting

- T asks Ss some questions:

+ Do you play sports in your free time?

+ What is your favourite sport/ game?

+ How often do you play it?

II Pre-listening:

1 Prediction:

- T shows the True/ False statements of Ex 2/P.23 on the poster

- T and Ss run though the statements

- T asks Ss to guess True or False

II While-listening:

1 Prediction check:

- Ss listen to the recording twice to check their predictions

- T asks Ss to share their answers with their partners

- Ss listen to the recording the third time to cponfirm their answers

2 Fill in the gaps:

- T asks Ss to fill in each blank to complete the sentences

III Post-listening: Writing activity

- T gives topic:

“Write a paragraph of about 80- 120 words about the sport/ game they like.”

* Steps:

- First brainstorm with Ss for necessary language Allow Ss to refer to the reading and other sections for useful language

- Note interesting expressions and language on the board

- Tell Ss to write a draft first, Ss should use the cues and their own ideas

- Then Ss actually write a paragraph of about 80-120 words about the sport/ game they like, covering as many ideas as possible

- Tell Ss to pay special attention to punctuation, structural elements, linking words…

- T may collects some Ss’writing papers and mark them, then give comments to the class

* Suggested writing:

Nowadays, football becomes the most popular sport game in the world Many people like

playing football or watching a football match on TV and especially on the stadium It is a team games A football match lasts about ninety minutes It is divided into two halves Each half lasts forty- five minutes, there is a fifteen- minute break between two halves There are two teams and each teams has a goal keeper and ten players Players from each team try to keep the ball with their feet or heads and kick the ball to the goal of the other team It doesn’t need special equipment If we want to play soccer, we only need a ball and our trainers.

IV Consolidation:

- T uses suggested questions to sum up what Ss have learnt in the lesson

Lesson 6: SKILLS 2

A OBJECTIVES:

1 Knowledge: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

- Use the lexical items related to the topic Sports and games;

- Listen for general and specific information about people’s favourite sports;

- Write a passage about your favourite sport

2 Qualities: Students will be able to enhance their love for sports and games, their

responsibility for study, their industriousness.

3 Competences: Students will be able to practice listening skill, writing skill,

cooperate, solve problems and develop creativity.

B Teaching aids:

Textbook, computer, projector/ TV, cassette.

C Procedure:

* Warm up: Miming

- T divides the class into two teams (A-B)

- T will use body language and ask Ss to guess words about sports or games

- The team having more correct words will be the winner.

Key: swimming, riding a bike, jogging, playing volleyball…

I Pre-writing:

1 Pre- questions: (Task 1)

- T asks ss to listen the passages and answer these questions:

Who are they about?

- Hai and Alice

Which sports or games in passages?

- volleyball, cycling, karate, chess, computer games

2 True/ False (Task 2)

- T shows the statements on the screen and asks ss to predict whether they are true (T)

or false (F)

- Students guess.

- T asks ss to listen to the CD two times and check their answer.

Write a paragraph about 40-50 words about your favorite sports or games (Task 4 and 5)

- How many players are there?

- How often do you play it?

- What equipment does it need?

- Why do you like it?

- T asks ss to work in group of 4, write a paragraph of about 50 words about their favorite sports or games, covering as many ideas as possible of the answers to these

questions.

- T tells ss to pay attention to punctuation, structural elements, linking words …

- Ss have 7 minutes to write the paragraph.

- T asks groups to stick their paragraph on the board

- T comments and gives marks

IV Post-writing:

- T consolidates the knowledge of the lesson.

V Homework:

- Complete the writing

- Do exercises in part E (Workbook)

- Get ready for the next lesson: Unit 8: Looking back & Project.
