communication Vietnam has vowed to improve students’ English skills by pouring trillions of dong into English teaching programs, but the majority of university graduates cannot communicate in English To communicate fluently in English, we have to spend a lot of time practicing Some people studying English at local language schools have the feeling that learning English is ‘work’, that it has become the ‘have-to-learn-it’ language Maybe their teacher gives them little speaking practice, and instead focuses mostly on grammar exercises The issue at hand is how to provide the most effective training, allowing pupils to meet both linguistically and in real-life circumstances The new teaching method makes communication skills highly efficient, especially for foreign language students Currently, language games such as brainstorming, matching, pre-speaking stage, guessing game, and others are used to educate in English centers and schools These games have increased in popularity among students at all levels, from elementary school to college However, to develop their communication abilities, they require a specialized atmosphere and learning For second-year students, storytelling is the most effective learning strategy Students may readily locate study resources while also assisting in the development of their imagination and critical thinking skills This means, they will create opportunities and encourage students to learn and maintain their interest in learning speaking skills by image and exciting topics to practise presentation This study investigates into some improvements for speaking skills by using storytelling methods and objects of this survey are second year English majored students at Hong Duc University, Thanh Hoa, Vietnam The aims of this research are to find at the problems in learning vocabulary, pronunciation, communication and presentation In this thesis, we will describe the methodology and procedure of this study A quantitative job or just in daily life, you need to be able to communicate." (Nuffield Languages Inquiry, 2000) This is also the goal of individuals studying English as a second language According to Zuliati (2013) Speaking is an important language skill, in which communications take an important role in the world of information, speaking is a spoken language that is taught in the era of globalization Because of speaking, students can communicate with other students in our country or different countries, we can share ideas and opinions Nowadays, jobs are global – many companies need employees who can communicate with partners and consumers all over the globe Because English is the key language of global communication, people who know and can communicate in English may be extremely beneficial to the company The company had to reject many Vietnamese students who had good professional knowledge, but bad English skills, because the students could not understand or express their opinions in English at interviews. As a result, businesses will pay extra attention to and hire individuals who are fluent in English You can work as a translator, language instructor, or English marketing professional for an international firm if you study English. That means you will have a higher salary and have a more pleasant work.Regardless of which career path you decide to pursue, learning English is a valuable skill that you should work on Furthermore, if you know English, you will be able to quickly arrange to work with overseas partners, international areas, and grow in your profession English will demonstrate a significant portion of your skill and intellect When going for a job interview in English, you will have a tremendous edge Learning English will give you the ability to travel to English speaking countries like the United States, Canada, England, and Australia As well, you will be able to communicate with other people in Europe, Asia, and all over the world English is spoken in more than 100 countries and is often the only way to communicate in a foreign country You would be surprised how many more people in Japan speak English than Spanish Asking directions is simple when you can speak the language Understanding the tour guide is another benefit of understanding English Your whole vacation will open up before your eyes when you can understand the people and the things around you With English you will be able to meet new people on your vacations Vietnam's primary, middle, and high schools all use semester assessments to measure pupils' abilities It is mostly related to reading, writing and grammar skills, speaking skills are rarely learned and practiced in school As a result, after attending university, students at Hong Duc University have very weak speaking abilities Speaking is thought to be the most challenging of the four abilities for most second-year students. They frequently study at English centers to improve their speaking abilities in addition to instruction according to the credit-based learning curve at school However, if economic conditions and time constraints are tight, it will be a temporary solution that will make it difficult to assist pupils build skills for a long time in the future.Speaking is the process of building, and sharing meaning through the use of verbal and non-verbal symbols (Chaney, 1998, p 13) All above reasons inspired the author to choose the topic to research ‘’Research on using storytelling to improve for second-year students of the Faculty Foreign language at Hong Duc University’’ with the hope that it will be off some help to improve students in learning English speaking skills.I am hopeful that this study will help students improve their English speaking skills Aims of the study This study aims at investigating the difficulties in learning speaking skills for second-year of the Faculty Foreign language at Hong Duc University and applying storytelling to help them improve this skill The specific aims of the research are as follows: ❖ To investigate the student's attitudes towards speaking skills ❖ To find out difficulties of second-year learning speaking skills ❖ To evaluate the effect of storytelling on improving the speaking ability of sophomore majors in English 3.The research questions The study is implemented to find answer for the following research questions: What are the student's attitudes toward speaking skills?
