Assignment Two Assignment 2: 50% of final grade Word limit: 2500 words Due Date: Group Monday 22 May 2023, 5:00pm AWST (4 00 pm ICT) Group Monday 29 May 2023, 5:00pm AWST (4 00 pm ICT) (20 marks - 500 words) Martin believes that one of the strong themes to emerge from his early interviews with the mothers is that they feel that the closure will lead to a loss of a sense of community Read the transcript of Martin’s interview with Dianne Code the transcript and identify two - three key concepts emerging from your coding What evidence can you find from that interview that supports Martin’s conclusion? Should he consider an alternative theme? If so, what would you suggest? Justify your response with reference to the Kingston Data, the Reading Guide, and the Planning and Conducting Interview Chapter from your text (30 marks - 2000 words) The issue you are investigating is the mothers’ perspective of the impact of closing a rural school Has the school closure decision and action had an impact on the community living in and around Kingston, and if so, what is the nature of this impact? Format of Assignment A 500-word interpretation of Dianne’s interview as per the guiding questions stated in (1) above The 500 words will be supported by your coding of Dianne’s interview The coding can be presented in tabular form, or as a transcript using colour, underlining, italics, or margin notes to highlight text (the evidence) to justify your codes A 2000-word (maximum) summary and justification of the selected evidence relating to the impact of the school closure This will include your analysis of all the interview data plus your additional selected data sources (e.g., newspaper articles, field notes, memos) Two appendices as listed below The appendices will mostly consist of data analysis Appendices You are expected to include (two) appendices clearly illustrating the knowledge gained from analysis of Martin’s data Each appendix must provide a new concept, provide accurate results and clear evidence of your analysis processes The two appendices will include:  A conceptual model of the mothers’ perspective of the impact of closing a rural school The model is informed by your analysis of Martin’s data  An appendix of your choice Below are some suggestions, but these are not exhaustive o A content analysis of newspaper articles o A timeline of the key events surrounding the closure decision and subsequent school changes This could be linked to the different data collection points and used to explain degree of impact Organising the contents of Assignment The assignment should contain the following items:  A table of contents (which includes the appendices);  A 500-word interview analysis;  Evidence of your data coding (table, marked transcript)  A 2000-word summary of the evidence relating to the impact of the school closure, justifying your interpretation and selected themes; and  Two appendices Standard of Assignment The presentation of your 500-word interpretation and your 2000-word summary must be of a very high standard You should write them as though you were submitting for publication Marks will be deducted for errors of spelling, grammar or syntax Claims made must be well justified by the analysis evidence presented in the summary and in the appendices Submission of Assignment Only electronic submissions are required in only WORD format (.doc or docx) and should be a single file While a cover sheet is not required make sure your assignment has your name, student number, contact phone number and email address on it Instructions on submitting the assignment will be given on Blackboard closer to the due date Marks allocation for Assignment 20 marks for the 500-word analysis of Dianne’s transcript Marks will be allocated in the following way:  Appropriate standard of academic writing, including use of additional texts (5 marks);  A clear statement of a stance in answering the questions and a clearly articulated choice of appropriate data sources to justify the stance (5 marks);  Correct interpretation of results and justification with evidence to answer questions (10 marks) 20 marks for the 2000-word summary outlining your case related to the impact of the school closure decision on the Kingston Community Marks will be allocated in the following way:  Use of a concise academic report writing style, use of at least two references additional to the course materials and accurate APA referencing style, both in text and end of text This will include a high standard of presentation, clear labelling of tables and figures and references to appendices (5 marks);  Conceptual understanding of the problem posed and a clear statement of your stance and organisation of the assignment to support the stance This will include an introduction, presentation of evidence with discussion and a clear conclusion (5 marks);  Clearly articulated results of qualitative data analyses to justify the stance taken in answering the question This will include selected key pieces of evidence extracted from (or referenced to) the detailed analyses in the appendices (5 marks);  Synthesis and integration of appropriate evidence to provide an evidence-based response to the question This will include a level of scholarship which extends beyond a simple list of evidence and may include drawing connections between data sources and methodologies (5 marks) 10 marks for the quality of the appendices Marks will be allocated in the following way:  Clear evidence of your analysis processes in each appendix (4 marks);  Depth of analysis in each appendix (4 marks);  Inclusion of an introductory summary at the beginning of each appendix (2 marks)
