Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: • Practice more about the use of adverbs of manner. • Know how to use adj + that clause. II. Content: • Vocabulary: sigh, amazed, ……………. • Grammar: adj ⇒ adv, S + be + adj + that clause ………………. III. Method • Individually. • Ask – answer. • Pair works. • Teamwork. IV. Teaching aids: • Pictures and posters. • Real objects. • Books and notebooks. V. Procedure: 1. Warm up (7 minutes) Teacher’s activities Students’ activities - Greet and have Ss find the adjectives with correct adverbs in two groups. - Check and give feedback ( If Ss choose the right word give one mark ) - Play the game in group. - Find the adjectives with adverbs. Pelmanism : Find the adjectives with the correct adverbs : ( All the cards are closed , Ss choose and turn over ) 2. Adjective and adverb (12 minutes) - From the game lead in the lesson: What are these? (adjectives and adverbs) - Have Ss give the formation of adverbs from adjectives and explain quickly the usage. I. Adjectives and adverbs. - Look at the poster and answer the teacher’s questions. - Remind and take note. Adj + Ly = Adver of manner * Adjective can come in two places in a sentence : 1. Before a noun Ex : a beautiful house 2. After some verbs: be , look , appear , seem , - Have Ss use these adjectives and adverbs from the game to complete the sentences. adjective adverb Extreme Extremely Good feel, taste , sound , smell …. * Adverbs normally go after the direct object. Ex: I play soccer badly. Adjective + that clause (16 minutes) - Have Ss read the sentences: + I’m disappointed that people have spoiled this area. + Nga is sad that her mother is sick and has to stay in the hospital. + The students are pleased that they all get good grades in the exam. - Ask Ss to give the form from the examples. - Ask Ss to work in four groups to complete the dialogues in page 55 after reading the sentence in a). a) Ba: Dad! I got mark 9 on my test! - Look at the examples on the posters and read loudly. S +be + adjective + that clause Exercise 3: - Work in four groups. Mr. Ha: That’s wonderful. I’m ………………. Production (7 minutes) - Ask Ss to retell how to use the adverbs of manner and adj + that clause. - Some Ss retell. 5. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: • Understand a poem about the environment. • Be aware of protecting the environment. II. Content: • Vocabulary: junk yard , treasure , hedge , nonsense , foam • Grammar: Review. III. Method • Individually. • Ask – answer. • Pair works. • Teamwork. IV. Teaching aids: • Pictures and posters. • Real objects. • Tape and recorder. • Books and notebooks. V. Procedure: 1. Warm up (7 minutes) Teacher’s activities Students’ activities - Greet and chat with Ss with these questions - Use these questions to lead in the lesson Today we learn to read an English poem - Greet and chat with teacher. - Listen and answer the questions. * Chatting : 1. Do you like poetry? 2. Which poet do you like best? 3. Name some poems that are your favorite? 4. Do you think it is easy to understand a poem? 5. Have you ever read English poem? Do you like it? - Listen to the teacher’s introduction. 2. Pre – reading (10 minutes) * Pre – teach new words: - Teach some new words and have Ss guess and give the meaning of these words - Model , repeat , read before class (Call some Ss to check their pronunciation) - Teacher uses technique “Rub out and remember” to check new words. I. New words: + Junk yard ( n ) bãi phế thải (explanation) + Treasure ( n ) kho báu ( translation) + Hedge ( n ) hàng rào (visual) + Nonsense ( n ) dại dột (explaination) + Foam ( n ) bọt khí ( picture) - Repeat in chorus then individually. - Play the game of “Rub out and remember”. 3. While – reading (18 minutes) - Set a scene to lead in the content of the poem (Two people are going on a picnic. They are talking about the pollution.) II. The mother and her son 2. They are in the park - Have Ss read again and match in groups. - Guess the answers to the following question. a. Who are people in the poem? b. Where are they? - Read the poem silently. - Work in four groups. Exercise a) Match each word in A to an appropriate explanation in B. A B 1. junk – yard 2. end up 3. treasure 4. foam 5. stream 6. hedge 7. folk a) a row of things forming fence. b) people c) a piece of land full of rubbish d) a flow of water e) mass of bubbles of air or gas. f) valuable or precious things. g) reach a state of - Call some groups to write on the board. - Check and give the answer key. - Give the feedback. - Have Ss ask and answer the questions in pairs (close and open pair). 1) According to the mother, what will happen if the pollution goes on? 2) Who does the mother think pollute the environment? 3) What will happen to the boy if the keeps on asking his mother such questions? 4) Do you think the boy’s question is silly? Why / Why not? 5) What does the poet want us to learn about keeping the environment? - Have Ss play game in groups - Check and give answer key - Some Ss write on board. 1 – c , 2- g , 3- f , 4- e , 5-d , 6- a , 7-b . Exercise b): Answer. Then write the answers in your exercise book. - Work in pairs. - Play game in two teams. a. If ………., the world will end up like a second hand junk yard. b. The mother thinks the other folk pollute. c. His mother will take him home right away. d. No. Because he is right; if he throws the bottles that will be polluting the woods. e. The poet wants us to learn that everyone is responsible for keeping the environment from pollution. 4. Post – reading (7 minutes) - Call some Ss to read the poem loudly. Discussion What could you do in your school / house to minimize pollution? - Some Ss read the poem. - Discuss in group to find the ideas for this question in group - Present before class - Check whole class 5.
