Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: • Understand the dialogue and about the way to save energy. II. Content: • Vocabulary: bill, enormous, reduce, plumber, crack, dripping faucet. • Grammar: Making suggestion. III. Method • Explanation. • Ask – answer. • Pair works. • Teamwork. IV. Teaching aids: • Pictures and posters. • Real objects. • Tape and recorder. • Flashcards. • Books and notebooks. V. Procedure: 1. Warm up (7 minutes) Teacher’s activities Students’ activities - Ask Ss to look at the pictures and write in groups. - Check and give correction - Using these words and the pictures to chat with students. - Have Ss make a list of things to save energy in groups. - Tick some poster on the board and check. - Give feedback (Ss ) - Check and give possible answers if necessary. - Look at the pictures and think and write in groups. ========================================================================== TRƯỜNG T.H.C.S GIANG PHONG – CƠ SỞ 2 GIÁO VIÊN TẠ THỊ MINH GIÁO ÁN TIẾNG ANH LỚP 9 NĂM HỌC 2010 – 2011 – HỌC KÌ II ========================================================================= - Check the whole class - Look at the picture and answers - Make a list of things to save energy in groups. - Tick on the board and check whole class. * Kim’s game : Things in the picture Radio faucets TV Lights ? Is the TV on? ? Who is watching TV? ? Is the light still burning? ? What happen to the faucets? ? Should we turn off the TV? ? What must we do to save energy? Make the list of things : * Possible answers: - Turn off the TV. - Turn off the light. - Turn off the radio - Turn off all the faucets. 3. Presentation (7 minutes) - Lead in Unit 7: Today we learn how to save energy at home. - Teach some new words and have Ss guess and give the meaning of these words. - Model , repeat , read before class - Call some Ss to check their pronunciation. - Teacher uses technique “What and where” to check new words. - Listen to the teacher. I. New words. - Guess and give the meaning of the new words - Listen and repeat - Read aloud before class + bill: Hóa đơn (visual) + enormous : Khổng lồ (synonym) + reduce : giảm (example) + plumber : Thợ sữa đồ nước (picture) + crack :vết nức (visual) + dripping faucet : Vòi nước bị nhỏ giọt - Play the game “What and where” 3. Practice (17 minutes) - Set the scene to lead in the lesson: Mrs. Mi is talking to her neighbor, Mrs. Ha. Mrs. Ha looks very worried. Now work in group to guess about the conversation between them. - Have Ss read these statements and guess in groups. 1. Mrs. Ha is worried about her water bill. 2. Mrs. Mi gives Mrs. Ha advice how to save water. 3. Mrs. Ha has checked the pipes in her house and found no II. Method • Explanation. • Ask – answer. • Pair works. • Teamwork. IV. Teaching aids: • Pictures and posters. • Flashcards. • Books and notebooks. V. Procedure: 1. Warm up (7 minutes) Teacher’s activities Students’ activities - Greet and ask Ss play a game. - Have Ss remember then write down. - Check and give the feedback. - Set a scene to lead into new lesson: Is the light on? What do you say if you want to suggest turning the light? Now today we learn how to make suggestion. - Play the game in group - Look at the pictures and write down - Check the whole class - Listen and answer the question Kim’s game Look at the picture and write “ What we should do to save energy” + turn off the faucet + Lower the fire/ turn down the fire + turn off the fan + turn off the light and TV 2. Pre – speaking (10 minutes) - Set the scene: What does Mrs. Mi say to advise Mrs. Ha? - How does Mrs. Ha respond? - Target language - Find out other ways of making suggestions (work in groups) and the responds. -Use a poster. Example A: I thing we should turn off the faucets. I suggest fixing the faucet. B: Ok. *Possible answer : B. I suggest repairing the cooker C. Why don’t we switch off the fan? D. I think we should turn off the air conditioner. E. Let’s switch off the lights and the TV. F. I suggest fixing the faucet in the bathroom. G. I think we should use the bicycle instead of using the motorbikes. H. Why don’t we use the public buses? b. Work in group of four. Post – speaking (7 minutes) - Have Ss discuss with the partners to answer the questions. - Call some Ss to give their answers before class. - Discuss in group to write the ideas to help the - Write down the ideas on the poster first .Then use these ideas to make suggestion in groups - Give suggestions before class (other groups add more ideas). “What should we do to help the poor in the neighborhood of our school?.” * Suggested ideas : - collect money - collect unused clothes - organize the show to raise money . - ……………………… Ex : I suggest collecting some money 5.
