Lesson 2 I Objectives:

1 Knowledge:

1 Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:  Recognize and say the three Yywords correctly

 Do the corresponding actions  Practice reading skills

 Sing letter Yy song

Vocabulary: Yo-yo, yellow, yacht

Sight words: I, have, a, it, is, too, like, my, and 2 Skills:

- Develop Ss reading, writing and listening skills 3 Attitude: Educate Sts to love their lesson Work hard

III TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette

2 Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks II TEACHING METHODS:

- Work in pairs , individual, in groups … IV PROCEDURE:

- Greeting: Good morning/ Good afternoon How are you? - Checking for the students’ attendence:

Have students listen to the chant in lesson and sing along Repeat the chant without the CD, keep the rhythm by clapping their hands or snapping their fingers

Put the phonics cards on the board Name the items One at a time, ask students to corresponding actions then say the sound of the letter and words

E.g Teacher: (Point to the yo-yophonics card) Say /j/- yo-yo Class: (mime playing with a yo-yo) / j /- yo-yo

Teacher’s and students’ activities Content * Activity 1:

Ask: Can you see the /j/- yo-yo? Point to it

Encourage the students to point to the picture of the word that the teacher says

Play the CD Have the students listen to the story once

Play the CD again The students listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story

Read the story The students follow in their books Teacher reads the printed words then let the students

look at the pictures and say the words

Ask students work in pairs One reads while the other checks, then they swap roles Or one reads the printed words while the other looks at the pictures and says the words

Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help

4 Listen, read along.

Activity 2:Put up the phonics cards on the board. Choose students to go to the board and make a line

in front of the board

Choose a student to be “Memory Master”

The students choose a phonics card and say the word (without touching the cards- each student chooses one phonic card)

The “Memory Master” must hand correct phonics cards to each student

Activity: Memory Master

* Activity 3:

Put up the yo-yo, yellow, yachtphonics cards up on the board

Point to the yo-yo and yellow phonics card and say: A

yellow yo-yo. The students repeat

Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song

Play the CD The students listen and sing along

Play the CD again The pupils sing and

corresponding actions OR ask the students to take out their own yo-yo, yellow, yachtpicture cards and place them on their desks Play the CD again The students listen and hold up the corresponding picture cards

* Activity 4:

Prepare some phonics cards (from this lesson and previous unit)

Ask individual student to correct teacher’s statements

e.g Teacher: (pointing to the yacht) Look! It is a yellow yo-yo.

Student 1: No! It is a yellow yacht!etc

Activity: Chinese Whispers Game

Divide the class into2 teams with the same numbers of students in each team

The first student of each team runs to the teacher (at the same time); teacher whispers a word/words/ a simple sentence to them

The first student whispers the word/words to the student sitting next to or behind him/her and so on

The last students say the word/words/sentence aloud The team has the correct answer is the winner

3 New lesson

Point to the lettersand elicit their names and sounds Explain the activity

Ask the students to find and colour the Yy letters

Go around the classroom providing any necessary help Ask the student to name the item

Activity (15’)

Show the students the yogurt phonics card Point to it and say: /j/ - yogurt Ask them to repeat

Mime eating yogurt and say: /j/ - yogurt Encourage the students to the same

Say the letter The students perform the action and say

Play the CD The students listen, point to and repeat the word

Point to the picture and have students name them Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures

of words start with the /j/ sound

Go around the classroom providing any necessary help Activity: Craftwork

Ask the students to take out their notebooks Ask them to choose one word then draw the letter

Yand the picture of the item in their notebooks Tell them to decorate the letter and the picture The first three students who finish will present their

Write on the board the capital letter Y (write slowly to demonstrate its formation)

Point to it and elicit the sound /j/

Show the formation in the air (taking care when facing to the students that the letter is formed the correct way for them)

Repeat with the small letter y

The students trace the letters in their activity books Go around and provide any necessary help Ask the

students to say the sound of the letter

Explain the activity

First, the students trace the letters in the boxes

Then draw lines from the letters to the corresponding pictures

Check around the classroom

* Activity 3:

Put up the phonics cards on the board and ask the students to memorize the order in which the items appear

Ask the students to close their eyes and remove the

Ask individual students to name the items in the correct order

Change the order of the phonics cards and repeat the activity

* Activity 4:  Explain the activity

Point to the pictures and elicit their names

Ask the students to look at the pictures, say the word and circle the letter their names begin with

Go around and provide any necessary help

Say the words Circle the correct letter

Activity 5:

Explain the activity

Point to the letters and say the sounds Point to the pictures and elicit their names

Ask the students to colour the shape that corresponds to the initial letter of each item any colour they like Go around the classroom and provide any necessary

help

Say the sounds Colour the right shapes
