UNIT 10: WHERE WERE YOU YESTERDAY? LESSON (3 - 5)

A AIMS

By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to :

- ask and answer questions about where someone was in the past - Develop Ss speaking skill

* Language focus:

- Sentence Patterns: - Where were you yesterday? - I was at home

- Words: were, was B TEACHING AIDS

I WARM - UP Slap the board

II NEW LESSON 1 Listen and tick

- Have pupils look the pictures with the places in each number - Get sts say aloud

- Tell the pupils that they are going to listen dialoges and tick the correct pictures with places

- Play the recording twice for pupils listen and choose the correct answers - Compare the answers with the partners

- Play the recording again pupils check their answers - T gets the answer:

- Have pupils act out the dialogues in pairs or groups for correction

- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text Answer: 1- c ; - b ; 3- a

2 Look and write

- Have pupils look at the places in the pictures - Ask pupils what they this part

- Tell them that they are going to complete the sentences

- Have pupils work in pairs to complete the sentences by looking at the information in the pictures to fill in the blanks

- Call on a pupil to write on the board and other pupils write in the notebooks in individuals

- Have pupils discuss their answers in pairs for correction - Have pupils comment the answer on the board

- Call some pupils read aloud their work in front of the class - Have the class chorally read each line

2 She was in the school library They were on the beach III REINFORCEMENT 1 Let’s sing

- Introduce the song “Where were you yesterday?”

- Play the recording and listen the song.

- Play the recording again for pupils to sing each line of the rhythm - Call on a group of six to the front of the class and the actions - The others clap their hands after the song

- Group work Pupils practise singing and doing the actions in groups

- Monitor the activity and help them when necessary Correct pronunciation Ss’ errors

- Call on one group to perform the song at the front of the class The rest of the class sing the song and clap the rhythm

- Have class sing the song again to reinforce their pronunciation 2 Doing exercises C, D in WB

- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to know how to ask and answer what someone did in the past

- Develop Ss speaking skill * Language focus:

I WARM-UP Brainstorming

Retell names of actions II NEW LESSON

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books

- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles - Repeat the step a few times

- Some Ss role play and the others comment - Ask Ss to role play

- Ask Ss to role play before the class

- Explain the meaning of the language practised 2 Point and say

- Ask Sts to look at the pictures given

- Play CD for sts listen and repeat all the actions given

- Read the words and have pupils read in chorus, individuals - Explain the pattern:

- What did you yesterday? I played badminton.

- Ask pupils about what they get information to say

- Tell them that they are going to ask and act out friends in pictures to answer what they did yesterday

- Have pupils act out the characters to ask and answer using the model sentences

- Call on all pairs to perform the task at the front of the class The rest of the class observe and give respond

3 Let’s talk

- Ask them to read the questions given: Where were you yesterday? What did you do?

- Ask pupils to answer the questions

- Have pupils talk about themselves about where they were and what they did

Ex: Yesterday, I was at school I had English, Maths and Vietnamese.

- Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation (stress, assimilation of sounds and intonation), and offer help when necessary

- Call on some sts to perform the task at the front of the class The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible

- Have pupils look at the pictures a, b, c on page 67 of the Student Book - Get sts the information about places in pictures

- Give feedback

- Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording and

match the information they hear to the pictures by numbering the boxes - Play the recording twice for pupils to listen and number the boxes - Check their guess Compare the answer with the partner

- Play the recording again pupils check their answers - T gives the answer:

- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text

2 Look and write:

- Have pupils look at the pictures given - Ask pupils to say aloud the places

- Get sts about the order of the ex

- Have pupils to write the answer for the questions given with the names of places and days given

1 Listen and repeat

- Have pupils look at the poster with the content of part (sts’ book – Page 68) - Tell them they are going to learn how to pronoun the sounds /ed/ with different words

- Produce the sound /ed/ in played, watched and painted a few times Ask pupils to say what they think about when they hear these sounds

- Play the recording again for the whole class to repeat each line in the speech bubbles to reinforce their pronunciation

3 Let’s chant: What did he yesterday?

- Put the piece of paper with the chant from Page 68 written on it on the board - Tell pupils that they are going to chant

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen as they read Clap the syllables

- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat each line of the chant and clap the syllables

- Call on some pupils to perform the chant at the front of the class The rest of the class observe and give comments if possible
