UNIT 13: Zz LESSON 2: Part 4, 5 I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practise the sound of the letter Zz and the coresponding words

- Learn and practise reading skills and sing a song 2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing 3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant III Method:

- Individual work, pair work and techniques can be used: music chairs IV Procedures:

2B Thursday, June 4th 2020 2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Pass the phonics card

- T devides Ss in teams (make sure teams have the same number of members) - T give the first student of each team a phonics card

- T say: ‘Go!” then the students say the words in the card and pass it over their heads to the student behind them, who continues saying the word and passing the card to the behind one

- The last student in each line races to hand their phonics card to the teacher and says the word

- The first team to so wins (or wins a point- then continue the game)

3 New lesson (30')

Activity Listen Read along (10’)

- T asks Ss: Can you see /z/- Zoo. Point to it - T encourage the students to point to the picture of the word that the teacher says

- T plays the CD Have the Ss listen to the story once

- Ss listen to the story once

4 Listen Read along

I have a yo – yo. It is yellow. I have a yacht. It is yellow, too.

- Play the CD again The students listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story

- Read the story The students follow in their books

- Teacher reads the printed words then let the students look at the pictures and say the words - T asks Ss work in pairs One reads while the other checks, then they swap roles Or one reads the printed words while the other looks at the pictures and says the words

- T go around the class to provide any necessary help

Activity: Guess (5’)

- T divide the class into two teams, A and B - T ask a student from one team to come to the board

- Whisper one of the vocabulary words (from this unit) to the student

- Without speaking, Ss draw a picture of the word on the board

- The first team to guess the word correctly wins a point

- Repeat the activity with a Ss from the other team

- The team with more points wins the game

Activity Song (9’)

- Put up the zoo, zebra, zip phonics cards up on the board

- Point to the zooand zebra and say: The students repeat

- Follow the same procedure and present the rest of the song

- Play the CD The students listen and sing along - Play the CD again The pupils sing and corresponding actions Play the CD again The students listen and hold up the corresponding picture cards

Activity: Correct teacher (5’)

LESSON + LESSON 4 I Objective:

Activity: What is it?

- Teacher holds up a phonics card, partly hidden by a sheet of paper

- Slowly reveal the phonics cards and ask Ss try to guest what the phonics card is - Teacher can use some more cards from the previous units

3 New lesson (30')

Activity 1: Which one is begin with the Z sound? colour (5’)

- Ask Ss to take out their colour pencils/ crayons

- Point to the letters and elicit the letters and the sounds for each

- Ask Ss to colour the pictures, use any colour they like

- Go around the class providing necessary help

Activity: Which One Is Missing? Game (3’) - Put the phonics cards face up on the table/stick them on the board (may use some cards from the previous lessons)

- Give Ss 10 seconds to look at the cards

- Have students close their eyes and then you take away one cards

- Tell the students to open their eyes and name the missing cards

7 Listen, point and repeat Colour the pictures of the words that start with the z sound Say the z words (7’)

- Show the Ss the watermelon phonics card Point to it and say: /z/ - Zero. Ask them to repeat

- Mime playing the violin and say: /z/ - Zero

Encourage the students to the same

- Play the CD Ss listen, point to and repeat the word

- Point to the picture and have Ss name them - Allow the students some time to colour in the pictures of words start with the /z/ sound

- Go around the class providing any necessary help

Activity: Make up words (3’)

- T put up the four phonics cards on the board - Write some letters on the board (make sure that the letters can make up the four words of the phonics cards)

- Explain to the Ss that they have to make up words from the given letters

- Ask them to write down in their notebook the words they can make up

- Tell the Ss to refer to the phonics cards for help

Activity 1: Trace and say (3’)

- Write on the board the capital letter Z (write slowly to demonstrate its formation)

- Point to it and elicit the sound /z/

- Show the formation in the air (taking care when facing to the students that the letter is formed the correct way for them)

- Repeat with the small letter z

- Ss trace the letters in their activity books

- Go around and provide any necessary help Ask the students to say the sound of the letter

Activity 2: Trace and match (3’)

- T divide the class into teams, A and B Ask Ss from each team to come to the board

- Write the zoo, zebra, zip, zero on the board - Teacher calls out/ shows the phonics card of one of the phonic cards, the students have to race to touch the word

- Ss who touches first wins a point for team

Activity 3: Write the letter Zz Colour the

pictures of the words that start with the z sound

- Point to the pictures and elicit their names - Ask the Ss to write the letter Zz in the box - Ask Ss to colour the pictures that start with the z sound

- Go around and provide any necessary help

Activity 4: Look & tick (ü) the correct sound
