LESSON 1: PART 1 I AIMS

1 Knowledge:

- By the end of the lesson, students can be able to:

Recognize and pronounce the letter Ss and its sound correctly Understand, recognize and say the three Ss words

Write the letter Ss

2 Skills: Listening-reading-speaking-writing

3 Attitude: Educate Sts to love their lesson and work hard.

- Techniques: + Ask and answer (say individually) + Work in pairs/ groups Discuss

2 Warm up: (5’) * Slap the board

- T explains how to play this game

1 Listen, point and repeat Colour (20’): Introduction of letter S, its sound and how to pronounce the words beginning with Ss

- Use a card with letter Ss (or write on board the letter Ss) to introduce to the students the new lesson

- Instruct students how to pronounce the letter name and the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter S /sun/ The letter S says /s/.”

- Repeat several times and check students’ pronunciation (letter S /sun/ and its sound /s/) - Use the phonics cards with sun, star, and snake, read the words out loud and have students repeat - Use gestures to help students to understand the meanings of the three words

1 Listen, point and repeat. Colour.

- Stick the cards on board and have students repeat the words chorally several times (in the correct order and then in any order)

- Call some students to say the words out loud and correct their mistakes (if any)

- Ask the students to colour in the letters Activity: Where’s the Letter?(10’) - Divide the class into groups

- Hand out photocopies of the page from some story books

- Give the students minutes to search for and circle the letter Ss on that page

Read the sentences with words beginning the letter Ss Chant the letter Ss

3 Attitude: Educate Ss to love their lesson and work hard.

2 Listen and point Choose (10’): Read the words with “Look at…!”

- Point to the sun and say: Look at the sun! - Have students listen and repeat

- Have students look at the book and listen to the words: a sun, a star, a snake

- Have students listen and repeat the words for several times

- Have the students to point to the corresponding item in the picture

- Repeat with the rest of the items in random order

- Ask the students to look at the pair of pictures on the side

- Choose the correct one for each corresponding item in the picture

- Go around the classroom asking students to name the items

E.g: Teacher: (pointing to the sun) Look at the………!

Student: Sun!

3 Chant and show! (10’)

- Use the phonics cards on the board and have students sing the chant with sun Do the same with star and snake.

- The whole class sings the whole chant

- Do the chant again without the CD this time, keep the rhythm by clapping your hands or snapping your fingers

- Give feedback Production

Activity: Jumping Game (10’)

- Put a line of masking tape on the floor - Designate one side True and the other False - Hold up a phonics card (e.g: sun) and say: sun - Jump on the True side

- Hold up another phonics card (e.g: star) and say: snake

- Jump on the False side

- Do the same with another phonics card

- The students who end up on the wrong side sit out until the next game

2 Listen and point Choose.

Look at the sun! Look at the star!

Look at the snake! Help

3 Chant and show! S, sun!
