- Teacher prepares photocopies of a page/ pages from some story books

- Hand out the photocopies and ask students to search for and circle the letter Vv on the page(s) - In a limited time, the pair/ group has circled the most Vvs is the winner
Activity 2: Listen and point Choose(7’)
- T points to the van and say: This’s my pretty van - Have students listen and repeat
- Have students look at the book and listen to the words: van, vase, violet
- T asks students listen and repeat the words for several times
- Ask the students to look at the pair of pictures on the side and colour the pictures
- Ss colour the pictures
- T go around the classroom asking students to name the items they are colouring

Activity Chant and show (7’)
- Without music, use the phonics card and step Vv to sing the chant with van Do the same with umbrella and ugly

- T encourage the students to point to the picture of the word that the teacher says
- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen to the story once - T play the CD again
- Ss listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story
- T read the storyand ask Ss follow their books - Teacher reads the printed words then let the students look at the pictures and say the words - Ss look at the pictures and say the words
- T ask students work in pairs One reads while the other checks, then they change roles Or one reads the printed words while the other looks at the pictures and says the words
- Ss to work in pairs Activity: Draw it(5mins)
- T divides Ss into teams, A and B Ask two students from each team to come to the board - T names a vocabulary item In 30 seconds, the students have to finish drawing it

- Put the tree, tent, tiger cards up on the board - T point to the tent, the tree and say: “There is a v, v, vase in the van”

Activity: Pass the phonics card(5’) - T line up the students in two teams
- Give the first student of each team a phonics card - Say: ‘Go!” then Ss say the words in the card and pass it over their head to the student behind them, who continues saying the word and passing the card to the behind one
