REVIEW (Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy, Zz)

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to consolidate the sound of the letters Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy and Zz and the corresponding words

1 Language focus:

Vocabulary (revision): - Van, vase, violet, violin

- Well, watch, window, watermelon - Ox, box, taxi, six

- Yo-yo, yellow, yacht, yogurt - Zoo, zebra, zip, zero

2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: students' book, CD, phonic cards, software 2 Student: Activity book, crayons/colour pencils III METHODS: T.P.R; games;

IV PROCEDURE: 1 Organization (1’) - Greeting

- Check Ps’ attendance

- Tell the students to listen for words that begin with e.g the /j/ sound

- Ask the students to stand up when they hear words beginning with /j/ sound and sit when they hear words begin with other sound

- Say slowly at the beginning and faster to make it more fun 3 Revision & Practice (24’)

- Explain the activity

- Ask the students to name the items

- Ask them to tick the correct letter that corresponds to each picture

- Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help, ask individual students to say out the sound or the item

- Explain the activity

- Ask the students to say the words for each picture

- Then ask them to circle the ones that begin with the same sound

- Go around the classroom to provide any necessary help

Activity (5’):

- Explain the activity

- Elicit the names of the items - Play the CD

- The students listen and circle the correct picture

- Listen again, pause and ask the students to repeat the item they hear

4 Consolidation (6’):

Activity: Run and Touch

- Divide the class into two teams, A and B, make lines - Put up the phonics cards (from part 3) on the board

- Say the word Two students, one from each team, race to touch the cards - The first student to touch the card wins a point for his/her team

- The team with more points wins the game

5 Homework: Ask students to review their lesson at home. VI Evaluation:

I OBJECTIVES: to consolidate the sound of the letters Uu to Zz and the corresponding words

1 Language focus:

- - Vocabulary (revision): Up, umbrella, ugly, under Van, vase, violet, violin

Well, watch, window, watermelon Ox, box, taxi, six

Yo-yo, yellow, yacht, yogurt Zoo, zebra, zip, zero

2 Skill: Reading, listening, speaking, writing

3 Attitude: teach Ps to the trading and colouring carefully. II TEACHING AIDS:

1 Teacher: phonic cards, CD 2 Student: Pupil book

III METHODS: T.P.R; games; IV PROCEDURE:

Teacher holds up a phonics card, partly hidden by a sheet of paper

Slowly reveal the phonics cards The students try to guest what the phonics card is

3 Revision & Practice (25’):

Activity : Hangman ( 7’ )

Divide the class into two teams, team A and team B

Choose a word and write the appropriate number of

spaces on the board

Ask two teams to take turn guessing a letter If a

student guesses correctly, write that letter in the space and give the student another turn If a student guesses incorrectly, start drawing a hanging man and have a student from the other team guess a letter

The team guessing the word wins a point

Activity 2: Unscramble the words (6 ’ )

Put up some phonics cards on the board

Write the letters of the words around them in

random order

Ask individual students to come to the board and

write the words Or ask the class to take out their notebooks and write down the correct words

The first student who finishes can choose other

cards and put them up on the board

Teacher writes the letters of the words around the

cards in random order then the activity continues Activity 3: Let’s chant (8 ’ )

Play some chants from units 8-13

Encourage students to sing along and the

corresponding action or hold up their picture cards Activity 4: Thumbs up or down ( 4’ )

Hold up the phonics cards one at a time to show to

the students

Say the name of the item on the card (Teacher can

say correctly or not) and ask the students to verify the word you say is correct or not by putting their thumbs up (correct) and down (incorrect)

Encourage the students to give the correct answer

4 Consolidation: Draw it (5’)

Divide the class into teams, A and B

Write on the board some words from units 8-13

In a limited time, the students quickly draw the pictures of those words

The team with more students finishes drawing wins

Go around the classroom and provide any necessary help

5 Homework: Ask students to review their lesson at home. VI Evaluation:
