LESSON 1: Part 1, 2, 3 I Objective:

- By the end of the lesson Ss recognize and pronounce the letter Uu and its sound correctly

- Understand, recognize and say the three Uu words - Write the letter Uu

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant III Method:

- Model - Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work - Some techniques can be used: music chairs

2B Tuesday, January 7th 2020 2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: You’re Out

- T hangs some phonics cards from the previous unit in the four corners of the room (1 card/ corner)

- Choose a student to stand in the middle of the classroom with his/ her eyes closed and count to ten while the other students run to the four corners

- When the student in the middle counts to ten, he/ she shouts “STOP” and call a name of a phonics card in the four cards on the four corners

- The students in that corner are ‘out’ and must sit down 3 New lesson (30’)

Teacher- Students’ activies Content

*Activitiy 1: Listen, point and repeat Colour (7’)

- T use a card with letter Uu to introduce to the students the new lesson

- Instruct students how to pronounce the letter name and the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter u The letter u says u

- Ask Ss repeat several times and check students’ pronunciation

- T use the phonics cards with up, umbrella, ugly, read the words out loud and have students repeat a Vocab:

up (picture)

umbrella (explaination) ugly (real object)

- T uses gestures to help students to understand the meanings of the three words

- Stick the cards on board and have students repeat the words chorally several times (in the correct order and then in any order)

- Call some students to say the words out loud and correct their mistakes

- Ss say the words out loud

- Ask the students to colour in the letters - Ss colour in the letters

Activity: Pupil’s book open (3’)

- Point to and elicit the sound of the letter and the words up,umbrella, ugly

- T play the CD Ss listen, point and repeat - The students color the letters Uu (explain that they can use any colors they like)

- Teacher goes around the class and elicits the letter and the word from individual students Activity 2: Listen and point Colour (7’)

- T points to the tree and say: It is up in an umbrella!

- Have students listen and repeat

- Have students look at the book and listen to the words: up, umbrella, ugly.

- T asks students listen and repeat the words for several times

- Asks students to point to the corresponding item in the picture

- Repeat with the rest of the items in random order

- Ask Ss to look at the pair of pictures on the side - Choose the correct one for each corresponding item in the picture

- Ask the students to colour the pictures

- T go around the classroom asking students to name the items they are colouring

Student: umbrella!

Activity Chant and show (10’)

- T put up the lyris of the chant on the board - Without music, use the phonics card and step Uu

to sing the chant with up. Do the same with

umbrella and ugly.

- Ss listen and chant

- With music, the whole class sing the whole chant Do the chant again using gestures for eacg word

- T give feedback

- T ask Ss to write the chant in to note book - Ss write the chant in their notebook - T ask Ss to excersise in the work book - Ss excersise in the work book

Activity 4: Writing in the air (3’)

- T show the letter Uu again, have students write the Uu in air with their fingers

- Ss write the Uu in air with their fingers

LESSON 2: Part 4, 5 I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to practise the sound of the letter Uu and the coresponding words

- Learn and practise reading skills and sing a song

Vocabulary: review

Sight words: it, is, in, an, can, you,see.

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing 3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary II Teaching aids:

Activity: Correct teacher

- T hold up the phonics cards, one at a time and ask individual Ss to correct teacher’s statement

e.g Teacher: (hold the up phonics card) It is an umbrella. Student 1: No! It is up! Etc

- T monitors and correct their mistake 3 New lesson (30’)

Activity Listen Read along (10’)

- T encourage the students to point to the picture of the word that the teacher says

- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen to the story - T play the CD again

- Ss listen and point to the pictures of the key words when they hear them in the story

- T read the storyand ask Ss follow their books - Teacher reads the printed words then let the students look at the pictures and say the words - Ss look at the pictures and say the words

- T ask students work in pairs One reads while the other checks, then they change roles Or one reads the printed words while the other looks at the pictures and says the words

- Ss to work in pairs

Activity: Chinese Whispers Game (5’)

- T divide the class into2 or teams with the same numbers of students in each team

- The first student of each team runs to the teacher (at the same time); teacher whispers a word/words to them

- The first student whispers the word/words to the student sitting next to him/her and so on

- The last students say the word/words aloud

Activity 2: Song (Track 38) (10’)

- Put the tree, tent and tiger cards up on the board

- T point to the tent, say: “Up in the umbrella” - The students repeat

- T plays the CD The Ss listen and sing along - T play the CD again The students sing and corresponding actions

Activity: Pass the phonics card (5’) - T line up the students in two teams

- Give the first student of each team a phonics card - Say: ‘Go!” then the students say the words in the card and pass it over their head to the student behind them, who continues saying the word and passing the card to the behind one

- The last student in each line races to hand their phonics card to the teacher and says the word - The first team to so wins (or win a point- then continue the game)

Can you see?

Up in the umbrella, hee, hee,hee.

It is ugly can you see? Up in the umbrella, Hee, hee, hee
