Lesson

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- learn and write the letter Aa /ei/ and its sound /æ/ and learn three Aa words - listening and speaking skills

- get acquaintance with new language II.Vocabulary: Ant, Apple, Alligator. III Sight words: A, An

IV Method: Teacher-whole class, groups, individuals.

V Teaching aids: CD, Phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant VI Organization:

VII Procedures

Teacher’s and Ss’ Activities Content

* Warm up:

- Greeting: “Hello I’m Mrs Phuong.” - Invite Ss to respond by saying “hello” * Presentation and Practice:

1 Listen, point and repeat Colour (Track 2):

- Introduction of letter A, its sound and how to pronounce the words beginning with Aa

- Use a card with letter Aa

- Instruct Ss how to pronounce the letter name and the letter sound

- Repeat several times and check Ss’ pronunciation (letter Aa /ei:/ and its sound /æ/)

- Use the phonics cards with ant, apple and alligator, read the words out loud and ask Ss to repeat

- Use gestures (hand actions) to help Ss to understand the meanings of the three words

- Check Ss’ understanding: T says the words, all Ss

- Call some Ss to say the words out loud and correct their mistakes (if any)

=> Activity: Memory game

- Put the phonics cards of ant, apple, alligator, Aa on the board

- Ask Ss to memorize the order of these cards

- Ask Ss to close their eyes, T removes one phonic card randomly and asks individual Ss to name it

- Continue changing the order cards

- Remember to correct Ss’ pronunciation throughout the lesson

* Production:

- Activity: Writing in the air.

Show the letter Aa again, have Ss write the “Aa” in the air with their fingers

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will able to: - practice the sound of the letter Aa and the corresponding words - learn and practice reading skills

- get acquaintance with new language II.Vocabulary: Ant, Apple, Alligator. III Sight words: an, for, and.

IV Method: Teacher-whole class, groups, individuals.

V Teaching aids: CD, Phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the song VI Organization:

VII Procedure

Teacher’s and Ss’ Activities Content

* Warm up: Matching(5’)

- T prepares some phonics cards of the ant, apple and alligator and the meaning of that words

- T sticks all of them on the board and asks Ss: “the ant is apple, right?”

=> Ss: “No.”

- Have Ss match in the right orders T invites Ss go to the board to match

- Invite other Ss to check - Give feedback

* Presentation and practise(15’) 1 Listen and point Colour (Track 3):

- Have Ss look at the books and listen to the words: An, ant, apple, alligator

- T points to the ant and says “an ant” Have Ss repeat many times

- T does like that with the apple and alligator

- T plays the CD Have Ss listen and point to the ant, apple, alligator

- T says “An apple” and asks Ss to point to the corresponding item in the picture T does like that with the ant and alligator

- Ask Ss to colour the apple, using any colour they like - Go around the classroom, asking Ss to name the items they are colouring

Eg: T asks “What ‘s this?” Ss answer: “An apple”

=> Activity: Pass the phonics card Game

- Using the phonics cards of Aa, ant, apple, alligator - Line up the Ss into teams

- Give the first Ss of each team a phonics card and say “Go”

- The Ss say the corresponding words and pass the phonics card over their head to the Ss behind them - Next, those Ss repeat the word and pass the phonics card between their legs to the Ss behind them

- Continue to pass the phonics card over their heads and between their legs to the last Ss

- Which team hands their phonics card to T and says the word correctly will get one point

- Which team has the most point will be the winner - Continue the game as many times as necessary 2 Chant and show! (Track 4)(10’)

- Put up the lyrics of the chant on the board

- Without music, use the phonics cards and step Ss to sing the chant with “Ant” Do the same with “Apple” and “Alligator”

- Without music, the whole class sings the whole chant Do the chant again, using the gestures for each word - Give feedback

Have Ss sing in pairs and groups
