Lesson

I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will able to:

- consolidate the sound of the letters Aa, Bb, Cc and Dd and the corresponding words - Learn and practise reading skill

II.Vocabulary: Consolidation

III Method: Teacher-whole class, groups, individuals. IV Teaching aids: Phonics cards (1-16), cd.

V Organization:

Teacher’s and Ss’ activities Content

* Warm up(5’): “Sound and Word”

- T divides Ss into teams, team A and team B

- T puts one of the phonics cards on the board, asks a student from team A to identify the sound (one point), the picture (one point), both of them (two points)

- Continue with team B

- Write the points for each on the board The team with the most point will be a winner

* Presentation and Practice:

1 Listen Read along(20’) (Track 26):

- T tells Ss that it‘s story time Ask the if they like reading stories and what their favourite storybook is, who their favourite storybook character is,

- T write the following words on the board (ant, bed, dog, cat, clock, dragon, drum) T can laminate them for future use

- Ask Ss to read out the words, invite guesses In L1 if any necessary about what they think the story is about Do not dismiss any ideas

- Have Ss look at the book Set the scene by asking the Ss questions about what they can see in the pictures

Look at the dog! It’s on the bed

Look at the ant! It’s on the bed, too

Look at the cat! It’s on the clock

Eg: T points to the dog in the picture and says: “Look! What is this?”

Class: “It is a dog.”

T points to the bed in the picture and says: “Yes The dog is on the……?”

Class: “Bed”

- T plays the CD and asks Ss to listen and follow the story in the books, pointing the pictures of the key words

- T plays the CD again pausing for the Ss to repeat (Whole-class, group, individual)

- Ask individual student to read the story aloud

* Production(8’):Writing the following words in the right colum

(ant, dog, carrot, apple, drum, car, cat, alligator, ball, dragon, clock, doll, bed, acrobat, bee, bear)

- Have Ss this activity for few minutes. - T checks and give feedback

* Homework:

- Do the exercise in the Activity book

2 Writing the following words in the right colum. Keys:

A: ant, apple,acrobat, alligator B: ball, bed, bee, bear

C: cat, carrot, clock, car D: dog, drum, dragon, doll

* Warm up(5’): “Who is quickest person ?” - Ask Ss to open their notebooks

- T explains the game: Ss will have three minutes to write as many words as they can which Ss have learnt - The winner is the person who has written the most and all of them are correct

- T checks and give feedback * Presentation and Practice:

1 Which animals are in the story?Colour.(20’) - T points to and elicits the animals in the picture

- T asks Ss to say the animals which appear in the story Have Ss colour those animals

- T explains to them that they can use any colour they like

- Have Ss colour

- T checks and gives feedback => Activity: Act out.(5’)

- Read the sentences in the story T invites Ss to mime the key words from the story (The dog, bed, ant, cat, clock, dragon, drum)

- If T wishes, has Ss come to the front of the classroom and act out the story T encourages Ss to have fun as they perform

Eg: Make noises or funny faces as they mime

- Time permitting, T can assign the role of the ‘narattor” to a student and Ss

* Production(5’): Optinal story activities.

1.Ask Ss to change parts or all of the story and present it to the class

Eg: Look at the dog It is on the clock

2.Photocopy the story and the speech bubbles from the photocopiable section, one set per pair Make sure they are not in the right order

Ss: 1.Put the frames of the story in the right order before they listen to check and or

2.Match the frames to the speech bubbles and listen to check their answers

3.Ss choose their favourite animal or object from the story and they draw it

- Do the exercise in the Activity book
