Define of discrimination: Discrimination is the act of making distinctions between human beings based on the groups, classes, or other categories to which they are perceived to belong why should it be concerned? 7/4/2015: An American police is charged with murder for killing an unarmed black man 25/5/2020: The black man died from being knelt on neck by a American police Homosexual people are assaulted job caste Homosexual LGBT appearance Nationality religion Social class color II Causes of Discrimination Sociocultural factors - The parents or people of reference In a study conducted in the 1950s by Bird, Monachesi and Burdick, they found that almost half of the white families they interviewed had forbidden their children from playing with black children Personality factors Different studies have concluded that there is an authoritarian personality type, and that more authoritarian individuals tend to be more racist In this way it has been shown that personality factors can also influence whether a person uses discrimination or not Cognitive factors The belief that a group possesses negative characteristics generates dislike towards it and therefore discriminatory behaviors The main component in this case is the negative prejudices about that group III EFFECTS OF DISCRIMINATION INDIVIDUAL SOCIETY VICTIMS • Physical and emotional impacts: It result in anxiety, sadness , depression and a feeling of guilt and emptiness These often translate into depression, loss of interest, eating disorders and stress – related ailments • Social, educational and financial impacts: They may take to alcohol or drugs, develop a hatred for others, or withdraw from people It can affect them financially, may lose their jog, quit school or poorly at school SOCIETY • Businesses: Communities and businesses that fail to take strong action on discrimination tend to be lower in productivity People with talents and exceptional skills and abilities are not attracted to these places because they not want to be discriminated against • Politics: Discrimination can fuel conflicts and social discords In fact, many conflicts and wars have been strated in this way IV What should each person do? • Educating yourself and others on what is discrimination will help provide clarification and prevent of any future incidents • As individuals we can prevent discrimination by attaining a positive attitude towards one another It can help contribute ones feelings towards an individual How parents could help prevent discrimination? • Parents practice great attitudes, words and behavior towards with children • Children recognize the differences and hold sectarian prejudices • Speak your children about prejudice and discrimination and how it hurt people • Speak to them about the ongoing discrimination around the world How to prevent discrimination in teen? • Parents, family and teachers should teach teens to appreciate diversity and respect people who are different any way and that they have a right to belong and a right to believe what they want • They should learn to respect ones beliefs and respect people for who they are
