continue their historical movements Understanding the importance of young generation both our society and each family create a lot of of effort to build up new young generation and to achieve modern criteria about recognition of cultures and morality… The most essential stage in building up excellent young generation is to form and develop their own personalities Current young generation have more advantages than previous ones such as scietific and technological approaches; advanced forgein languages abilities; independent thoughts; inheritting modern values and individual development ….On the other hand, they are also influenced by negative impacts of market economy or period of transition on their physical, moral, mental thoughts Family is society’s part where we were born and brought up It is a smaller size of society- a direct and frequent environment affects to the formation of individual personality The more healthy family is , the more strong society is However, family also shows its inconsistency and confusion in leading, forming and developing personality for future generations Many families have crisis signs: moral and traditional values are seriously influenced by power of money, hybrid lifestyle, divorce, adultery and domestic violence at high rate as well as the rapic increase in invalid teenagers, shool violence, cohabitation, addiction, prostitution and homosexuality This causes seriou stresses in each family and worried problems of society specially deviation in development personality for young generation In order to contribute individual effort to the improvement the role of family to formation personality for young generation in Hai Duong province, I come to a decision to choose this topic “ The role of family to the formation and development personality for young generation in Hai Duong province nowadays” as a PhD thesis on philosophy Purposes and mission of research 2.1 Purpose of research This thesis indicates some points of view and solutions to promote the roles of family to the formation and development of personality of Hai Duong young generations to classify some arguments and reality of matter which is mentioned above 2.2 Mission of research In order to gain these previous target, the thesis focus on these following missions: + Analyse overall situation of research relating to the thesis + Analyse arguments about personality, the formation and development of personality, young generations and their families, the roles of family to the formation and development of personality + Analyse reality about roles of family and some related problems to the formation and development personality of Hai Duong young generations + Offer some orientable perspective and basic solutions to promote the roles of family 3 Object and scope of research 3.1 Object of research This thesis mainly focus on studying about the roles of family to formation and development personality for Hai Duong youn generation 3.2 Scope of research The thesis studies the roles of family to the formation and develoment of young generations- teenagers at the age under 18 in Hai Duong since 2006 Research area consists of all families in Hai Duong province: city, town and 10 districts Argumentative basic and research methods 4.1 Argumentative basic Argumentative basic of this thesis is some points of view of Marxism, Ho Chi Minh’s conception, our Party in Renovative Period relating to family, the role of family to the formation and development of young generation The thesis inherit several results of scientists and their relevant research 4.2 Research Methods Methodology: The thesis is carried out by applying methodology of dialectical materialism and historical materialism Specific methods: In this thesis, many methods are used such as analyzing references, logical and historical method, analytical method, comparision and sociological statistics method The contribution of the thesis - In Hai Duong, taking Marxist theory into practice helps to consider roles of family to the formation and development personality of young generations - The thesis, clarify the argument about personality; personality formation and development, the young generation, the family,their solutions to improve the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young - The thesis some arguments, facts and data to classify some points of view and their solutions to improve the role of family to the formation and development of personality for Hai Duong young generation - Moreover, the thesis plays an important role in classifying the importance of family to the formation and development of personality of young generation through social and political approaches The meaning of the thesis The topic makes us clear in some arguments, theoretical and practical issues about the family, the role of family It also provides more references for parents who want to enhance the importance of family RESEARCH RELATING TO THE THESIS Theoretical studies about family, personality, young generation and the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation 1.1 Research about family Family is an important structure of society which have great effect on the formation and development of society Therefore, it become a main field in a lot of researches with various aspects These researches make contribution to the progressive development of society as well as human beings.There are noticeable researches: “ Traditional families” written by Khuat Thu Hong was published in 1996; “ Building civil family in Revolution Period” of Tran Huu Tong and Truong Thin; “Sociological studies on Vietnamese families”written by Tuong Lai in 1996; “Family psychology” written by Vu Hieu Dan and Ngan Ha in 2001; “ Family in the field of sociology” written by Mai Quynh Nam published in 2002; “Vietnamese family in Revolution Period of Le Thi in 2002; “ Family conflicts and their effects” publised by Vu Tuan Huy in 2003; “ Family culture: Behind the family door written by Van Linh in 2004; “ Present family trend” ( situations in Hai Duong province) of Vu Tuan Huy in 2004; “ Lives and changes in marriage and Vietnamese family” of Le Thi in 2006; “ Vietnames family- traditional values- Social psychological problems” of Dang Phuong Kiet in 2006 Trinh Huy Luan- Helle Rydstrom- Will Burghoom published “ Vietnamese rural family in Revolution Period” in 2011 Do Thi Thach did research on “ Building Family culture followed the 11th Party conference “ in 2011 Le Thi Quy printed “State management of family, theory and practice” in 2011 Le Van Ngoc wrote” family and its change in Viet Nam” in 2012… These researches showed the development of family in Viet Nam after Revolution Period in both quality and quantity in all aspects They also indicates the rules of development of family under the changes of environment and society There are a number of researches about the roles of family to development of children personality but they don’t mention to the influence of family on formation and development children’s personality However, they are important materials that provide basic for author who research on family and its role to formation and development of children personality 1.2 Research about personalilty Comparing to other scientific fields, research on personality is new trend but it has gain a lot attention of various fields Psychological of Soviet Union is one of the biggest psychology in the world with many researches which paid attention to Eastern countries who inherited and developed further.From the beginning of the process of building socialist state, Soviet Union specialized on “ Socialist state and personality” Pham Hoang Gia did research on “ Model about pupils’ personality” in 2000 Do Huy, Chu Khac, Vu Khac Lien, Truong Luu, Le Quan Thiem wrote “ Cutural personality in VietNamese values” in 1993 Do Long focused on “Ho Chi Minh- psychological and personality problem” in 1995 Nguyen Ngoc Bich wrote” Psychological and personality” in 2000 Dao Thi Oanh published “ Personality in present psychology” in 2007 Pham Minh Hac had “ Research on values of personalit according advanced NEOPI-R method” in 2007 Nguyen Tho Sinh wrote “ Psychological thesis about personality” in 2008 Hoang Anh published “ Education ,formation and development of personality in Vietnamese pupils during Market economy conditions” in 2012 Tran Dang Sinh- Nguyen Chu Sam published “ Man in the culture of Viet Nam” in 2014… Above researches are specialized materials but almost of them are psychology about personality within little phylosophy studies Moreover, scoci-economics development has made these studies out of date Therefore, author want to inherit and develop her own thesis about personality of young generation 1.3 Research about young generation Dinh Thi Van Chi wrote “ Youth’s entertainment’s needs “ in 2003 Tran Thi Cam had “ Children’s psychologogy and education in family “ in 2005 Dang Vu Canh Linh composed “ Adolescent and juvenile policies” in 2003 Tran Thi Huong Lan translated “ Learn about the psychological world of adolescence” in 2004 Sweden’s UNICEF publised “ Children’s rights: Changing rules into actions-referental book” in 2006 In 2006 publishing house of Justice had “ Sanction affairs about chidren sexual enroach criminals and guilty teenagers” In 2006 Strategy Institude and educational program; UNESCO’’s office had “ Educating living skills for disadvantaged children- Materials for teacher guiding” Campbell, Ross, uggs, Rod wrote “ What teenagers ask for their parents? ; “How to make teenagers feel fair in an unfair world” – translated by Phuong Oanh and revised by Phuong Thao in 2007 In 2007 Phan Thi Mai Huong wrote “ How teenagers respond to their difficult conditions” Luu Song Ha did research on “ Parental relationships with their children and behavior standard deviation” in 2008 Ngo Duc Anh, Ross, Micheal W, Ratliff, EricA publised “ Internet impacts on sexual activities among Ha Noi’s teenagers, Viet Nam” in 2009 These previous researches are general overview about psychophsiological features of young generation and policies, laws, social concerns with the aim to develop powerful human sources for country Researches mentioned completed asessments about the development of young generations, especially teenagers under the age of 18 However, there are a lot of changing status which has not been implied such as: school violence, “ brain drain” Therefore, this is one of the most important base for author to research on the formation and development personality of young generations as well as its effects From that point of view, author identify the aim of improving roles of family to the formation and development personality for young generations 10 These previous researches generally focus on impletion of educational funtions of family to children’s development However, family plays a special role to the development of children’s personality has not been clearly mentioned In Hai Duong, some reports which talk about family classified exact tendency and solution to improve family’s roles : building wealthy and advanced family Based on these documents, author want to inherit, make us of and take some appropriate measures to strengthen family’s roles to the formation and development children’s personality in Hai Duong Some problems which need discussing in the thesis Some relevant researches show that this thesis has been carried out with the following aspects: Firstly, researches about family basically and systematically reflect about the development and changes in Viet Nam from traditional family to modern one.In research, educational role is strongly mentioned with various contents such as morality, culture, beauty, sex and occupation….etc however, this thesis has not metioned to specific contents of improvement the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation Secondly, research about the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation has been carried out in different aspects, but it only focus on morality without analyzing economical role, emotional role, child bearing or health care to the formation and development of personality for young generation Therefore, the thesis continues carrying out following issues: Make clear some definitions: “family, personality, young generation, the formation and development of personality and the role of 11 family to the formation and development of personality for young generation” Analyze status of applying the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation in Hai Duong Offer some oriental perspectives and solutions to encourage the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation in Hai Duong CHAPTER 1: ARGUMENTATIVE ISSUES ABOUT PERSONALITY AND THE ROLE OF FAMILY TO THE FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF PERSONALITY FOR YOUNG GENERATION 1.1 Personality, the formation and development of personality 1.1.1 Definition and structure about personality Basing on some philosophical and psychological views, “ personality” can be defined as “the quality and ability to create oneself, the synthesis of biological and psychological fators in characteristic formation for individuals which helps people to evaluate and control themselves” From modern psychological points of view, Marxist- Leninism and Ho Chi Minh ideology about personality, author want to analyze it with two aspects: ability and quality Quality is biological and psychological feature of individual when taking part in community relationship Ability is the combination of knowledge, skills and attitude 1.1.2 Premise of the formation and development of personality Firstly, personality is formed and developed thank to biological premise and genetic inheritance of individual Secondly, it is formed and developed thank to social conditions.Thirdly, it is formed and developed thank to personal view 12 1.2 Young generation and the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation 1.2.1 Young generation and personality of young generation The young are considered as the future generations of human being society which are the main workforce and symbol of strength, potential enery for the socio-economical development of each nation They also need various concerns form their own families and society Their personality is one of powerful source to create oneself which is the synthesis of biological and psychological fators in characteristic formation for individuals which helps people to evaluate and control themselves 1.2.2 Family and the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation 1.2.2.1 Family Thank to some arguments about family, we can define “family” as a social group is formed and developed on marriage relationship, lineage, care which creates both rights and reponsibilties protected by State Family is social institution with historical characteristics 1.2.2.2 Family and the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation The role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation can be expressed through the following contents; Firstly, the role of family in taking care of health, physical development for the formation of biological basic of personality Secondly, the role of family in breeding, psychological development for personality 13 Thirdly, the role of family in educating, conveying knowledge as well as experience, life skills, productive experience which form personality Finally, the role of family in regulating and orienting personality 1.3 Some factors have effect on the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation nowadays These factors include objective conditions ( outside family) and subjective conditions ( inside family) CHAPTER 2: STATUS ABOUT THE ROLE OF FAMILY TO THE FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF PERSONALITY FOR YOUNG GENERATION IN HAI DUONG NOWADAYS AND SOME RELATING PROBLEMS 2.1 Natural - social conditions and personality features of young generations in Hai Duong 2.1.1 Natural - social conditions affecting to roles roles of family to the formation and development personality of young generations in Hai Duong at present time 2.1.1.1 Objective factors inclubde natural Geological and natural situation In recent years, Viet Nam has suffered from the global climate changes with complex effects such as: climate warming, high temperature, high moisture, flood, monsoon These natural disasters cause a lot of difficulties for economic developments and other activities of human beings In addition, climate changes have great influence on health, psychology and characteristics These aspects make the process of formation children’s personality more difficult Therefore, the young need to adapt some environmental changes 14 2.1.1.2 Social environment Economical conditions and effects of market economy There are a lot of disadvantages of market economy: pollution, smuggle, imbalace between richness and poverty or social evils… which destroy deeply personality Many people take high consideration into materials without concerning about improving psychological life, morality…in family Moreover, we are facing with the imbalance in academic level and cutural one Many parents only concentrate on their children’s learning resuts without educating their children to improve lifestyle, quality, physical strengths… They are the main drawbacks for the young to become national future because these difficulties prevent personality from developing to perfect human beings Human beings are one of the most important motivation in buiding country and socialism Ho Chi Minh President had confirmed that” Human beings are the most precious values in process of socio- economic developments Whether the speedy development since 1986 has benifited for individual and society? Hai Duong has achieved a lot of breakthrough but it is permanent development or not depending on evaluating positive aspects and reducing difficulties in formation and development children’s personality Scio- cultural factor In industrialization and modernization human beings have prove their own status in society and control their lives However, market mechanism has great influence on social relationships as well as family membership That forces people to solve all problems than to their material conditions, experiences, knowledge and willpower…as well as development of personality, quality which has affected young generations 15 Almost familes have shifted from poor, self- sufficient agriculture into modern manufacturing process In this period , family’s functions have changed: conflicts between the ancient and modern things… During formation and development of personality have much struggle between “ individual” and “ community” , our parents’ wishes and children’s freedom as well as traditions and mordern things Tthe effect of globalisation International criminals has spreaded with large scale and serious changes through using Internet, Money Transfer Service via ATM, especially the trafficking between Chinese- Vietnames border Hai Duong is one of the most important provice for political, cultural, economical… activities so there has been increase in the number of chidren who breaks the laws with serious evils The development of culture is facing a lot of challenges from other Eatern countries: the majority of international brands, Internet, English Therefore, the young are easily affected by new trends in negative ways – practical thoughts, incorrect behaviour The struggle for choosing both traditional and modern values, belief, lifestyle….is an important factor to form and develop personality 2.1.2 Personality features of young generations in Hai Duong at present time Thanks to beneficial natural conditions and social policies, industry in Hai Duong has been ungrading comparing with other areas in cour country This has a great effect on people’s lives and their family as well as the formation and development of personality for young generations in our province Affected by national economy, social policies and culture, young generations in Hai Duong have something in common with other parts in 16 our country However they also possess their own distinguish and special features to make them different from other parts in our country 2.2 Status about the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation in Hai Duong nowadays 2.2.1 The role of family in taking care of health, physical development to the biological basic of personality Achievements: Firstly, many families pay attention to and invest in physical development, height, weight and health of their children; Secondly, the family's awareness of physical health care and physical development for the young generation has been more advanced; Thirdly, thanks to the development of science and technology which supports families better in health care and development for the young generation Drawbacks: Firstly, some familiesare facing many difficult conditions and economic risks causing great obstacles to the process of health care and physical development for their children Secondly, a number of families are paying inappropriate attention to health care and physical development for the young generation Thirdly, some families still have backward and wrong conceptions about caring and nurturing their children Fourthly, environmental pollution has serious effects on the health and physical development of the young generation in Hai Duong Fifthly, unsanitary food safety does harm to the health of the young generation in the family 2.2.2 The role of family in broadening knowledge, experiences, life skills to form personality Firstly, households have extremely difficult circumstances such as poverty in province are facing great difficulties in performing the 17 educational functions in the family Secondly, society and families are not fully aware of children's education.Thirdly, if in the past, the traditional family had attached great importance to the education of rules such as morality, and rituals and traditions This is somewhat overlooked Fourth, in many families, there is no clearly defined educational goals for young generation Fifth, the family is not aware of the importance and has no enough education for children about gender Sixth, education is not really good, which makes children have negative impact of science and technology; Seventh, the difficulties of the family with new social evils and less experience handling; Eighth, the old, outdated elements of the family causes the restriction for the education of young generation to form a personality 2.2.3 The role of family in educating, conveying knowledge as well as experience, life skills, productive experience which form personality The role of grandparents, parents, brothers and sisters to the formation and development of the spiritual life is very great; Besides, there are mainly limitations: - Although the domestic violence situation has reduced, there are still complicated happenings which greatly affect the generation of children in the family - The increasing in divorce rates makes many children lack parents, or both parents lead to limited development on both physically and mentally - The regular absence of parents causing psychological and emotional deprivation of the children - Awareness of grandparents and parents is limited, especially knowledge about the internet, social networks making parents unable to be "friends" with their children, accompanying their children to solve 18 difficulties, problems, accidents and risks when their children encounter related to the above areas 32.8% of families said they know little about the social networking which their children participated in, 5% of families did not know about the websites that their children used [Appendix 22] - Self-contained children and be afraid to share, they feel lonely in the family which leads to psychological illness - autism, social network addiction, smartphone addiction, game addiction, high depression At that time, children find to "virtual world" - social networks, social evils to make friends and to show your "personaliy", forming a distorted personality The spiritual life of each person is a very important part that needs to be cared to have a positive and comfortable spiritual life The more modern society develops, the more spiritual attention of people becomes This is the basic foundation, premise for the development of rich soul, creative sense, morality, lifestyle, ideals, beliefs of each individual Thus, whether people experience joy or unhappiness from within their families, it is also a social institution that has a strong influence on the formation of personality development, especially the young generation 2.2.4 The role of family in regulating and orienting personality Achievements in economy, science, technology increasing awareness of the family, and local authorities which greatly support the family in orientational education, adjustment in personality formation and development Difficulties: some families have limited economic conditions that hinder the orientation and personality adjustment; limited awareness of the family; deviations in orientational education as well as many unsuitable views and lifestyles 19 2.3 Some problems about the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation in Hai Duong nowadays Fisrtly, economical situation of some familes can not afford the improvement the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation Secondly, insufficient cognitive level of some households preven them from enhancin the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation Thirdly, we need to select the cultural value of both traditional family and modern one Forthly, it has not enough combination between family with school and society to improve the role of family to the formation and development of personality for young generation 20 CHAPTER 3: SOME MAJOR SOLUTIONS TO IMPROVE THE ROLE OF FAMILY TO THE FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF PERSONALITY FOR YOUNG GENERATION IN HAI DUONG NOWADAYS 3.1 Solutions about socio-economical development to improve living standards in Hai Duong Firstly, accelerate the process of industrialization and modernization; international integration; associated with sustainable development; in order to improve the material and spiritual life of families in Hai Duong province today Secondly, it is necessary to overcome immediately limitations in the current economic production: The first constraint, the small and fragmented economic production situation in the field of industrial production and services; Agricultural production is also heavily selfsufficient The second constraint, the economic production of Hai Duong province lacks of sustainability, causing environmental pollution, unsafe food hygiene Thirdly, we need to take care of disadvantaged families, especially orphanaged children Fourthly, State should solve umemployment in some cities and rural areas Fifthly, we need to mobilize all supports to urge family to apply education and protection for children 3.2 Solutions to improve awareness the role of family to formation and development children’s personality Firstly, on the side of local governments and management levels of family development, there is a need to educate and actively propagate 21 about the role and functions of the family to those related to the implementation of this issue in society, not exclude even the leaders, the managers Secondly, raising awareness about the role of families in the development in general of individuals and the young generation in particular comes from raising awareness of family members themselves Thirdly, the role and function of the family needs to be transformed with the changing development trend of society, which needs to be researched and generalized into theory 3.3 Solutions to combine both traditional values and modern families Firstly, we inherit traditional values with positive and suitalbe contents for children’s personality Secondly, we remove backward customs and habits which have negative effects on children’s personality Thirdly, we learn about modern values to apply the roles of family effectively Fourthly, society need to stop the tendency to absolutize the roles of traditional family with the development of backward customs Fifthly, society need to stop the tendency to absolutize modern family values which create to arise social criminals 3.4.Combination between family, school and society to form and develop children’s personality Family: Firstly, parent and former generations need to understand more about new trends in educating children in mordern society Secondly, family take responsibilities for helping and supporting their children by giving advices to school to improve children’s personality 22 School: Firstly, school should remove status of teaching follow achivements;
