THIRD OFFICER
DEPARTURE
A All navigational equipment should be ready Carry out steering test with 2/O (See attached steering test procedure) and try engine with C/E Log it down in the Bell book, all entry must
be in actual time
B Pre-departure test of all GMDSS equipment (See attached file) should be carried out before sailing and log it in GMDSS Log book
C Prepare Pilot card and Ship’s particular and hand it over to pilot when already onboard
D Prepare all necessary checklist needed for departure
E Prepare tide tables and current needed for departure
F Write down ship’s condition on bridge’s white board
G Make sure that all flags/signal flags and shapes needed where hoisted properly at daytime and equivalent signal lights at night time
H Advise captain of the time of last line
I Advise E/R of the time of pilot on board and time of last line
J Make departure condition report and file it in Arr / Dep Condition Give a copy each to master and Chief Officer
K During S/B engine, position yourself beside engine telegraph and be alert with the master’s order and maintain sharp lookout Assist master whenever possible during maneuvering

D Compute daily sunrise and sunset and write it on whiteboard for reference of adjusting time corrections by master

F To fill up deck log book every watch, weather observations, weekly and monthly inspection, weekly drills, testing of alarm system and navigational equipment
G To regularly check for any abnormalities on the radio and navigational equipment and report
to master
H To continue monitor for weather report, navigational warning, meteorological warnings, distress, weather facsimile, navtex, MF/HF and Inmarsat-c EGC
I To monitor the fire alarm/detection system by regularly checking the control panel
J To make announcement (usually noon time) for time correction, monthly drill, safety
meetings, special announcement and etc.,
K To give notice to incoming officer of the watch by telephone on the desired time before the end of the watch
L To calculate noon report and compare it with 2nd Officer’s calculation
M To relieved Chief officer (Daily @ 1700H) for him to take dinner
N To perform time corrections on desired schedule (Usually @ 2100H for ahead and 2200H for aback)
O Check chronometer error daily during navigation and correct to nil error before arrival
P To record vhf log, radar logbook every end of the watch
Q Carry out daily testing of all GMDSS equipment and record it in GMDSS log book All print outs will be filed on daily test folder
R Change radars and VHF every 24 hrs of use Normally changeover is done every midnight (For Radar – Keep standby, don’t switch off)
S To make fire and security rounds around the accommodation and engine room after your watch and log it the designated deck log book

AT DISCHARGING PORT
A Checking of draft, density of sea water and displacement calculation
B Draft check and calculate for cargo discharged, rate per hour and cargo balance every 0600H (or as per C/O instruction)
C Advise your duty AB for F.W and D.W reading and ballast sounding and calculate remaining ballast water onboard
D Ballasting schedule will be given by C/O referred to the discharging sequence and must study the piping diagram and gauge pressure and let your AB check the condition of the pump and pipeline at the engine room at fixed interval
E Record draft after every sequence or step
F Never leave any pump unattended while running
G Shift over hydraulic oil pump ever 6 hrs (during end of cargo watch)
H Whenever cargo hold has been completed discharging, you must to check the cargo hold for any damage and must be reported to C/O at once the nature of such damage found for a particular hold
I Upon completion of discharging, actual sounding of all ballast tank and compute for the total ballast water onboard and record it to Tank sounding record
J Other duties may vary according to Chief officer and master
K Follow cargo watch standing order (See attached file)
AT LOADING PORT
A The duty officer according to the loading sequence shall do de-ballasting Study carefully the pipe diagram and gauge pressure and let your duty AB check the condition of ballast pump / G.S pump and pipeline in the engine room at fixed interval
B Never leave your station when using any pump while de-ballasting or stripping
C Determine that air draft is adequate Refer to the local tide and height available or required under the loader while on cargo operations and sufficient under keel clearance at all times
D Ask the ship loader by radio supplied on board the actual shore scale cargo quantity every time they finished loading in a certain hatch
E Shift over hydraulic oil pump ever 6 hrs (during end of cargo watch)
F During stoppage of loading, attend on deck for draft check as per C/O instruction
G Upon completion of loading, actual sounding of all ballast tank and compute for the total ballast water remaining onboard and record it to Tank sounding record

• If the message is successfully received by the shore station, an automatic reply will be generated and received on board triggering the HF DSC alarm when on or a flashing light green on alarm panel and also printing out on the printer
• The text printout is exactly the same format as what you have sent The only difference is the “Ack BQ”
• If no response is received after 5 mins, try again using different frequency
