LESSON PLAN Unit 13 : Hobbies Period 6 : Reading Time allotted: 45 minutes Class : 11B1 Date : Monday, March 28th, 2011. School : Phan Dang Luu High School Teacher in charge: Tống Nữ Kiều Thu Training teacher: Hoàng Thị Hoài Giang Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - read the reading passage in silent. - develop their reading skills: + scan for specific detail + skim for specific information - know more some basic information about hobbies. - feel more interested in expressing their ideas about their hobbies. - develop their working skills in groups, pairs or individually. Teaching aids: textbook, pictures, posters. Procedure: Stages/ times Activities Work arrangement I. Warm- up ( 5 minutes) Game: Kim’s game - T divides the class into 2 groups: Group 1 and Group 2. - T tells students they will play a Kim’s game. - T gives some instructions: In this game, I will show you 6 pictures in 30 seconds. Try to remember the names of 6 pictures. After I show all 6 pictures, students from 2 groups write down the words in 3 minutes. The group that has more right answers the most quickly will win the game. - T uses the technique STEP- BY- STEP to check the instructions. Group work - T shows 6 slides with 6 pictures. - T lets students to write their answers. - T gives feedback: shows the pictures and checks the groups’ answers. Activity 2: Answer the questions - T asks students to work in pairs, read the reading passage again and answer questions given in the handouts. - T checks students’ understanding of the instructions. - T delivers handouts. Activity 2: Answer the questions 1. What is the writer’s first hobby? 2. Why does the writer admire his uncle ? 3. How did he collect his fish ? 4. Where does he collect the stamps ? 5. What does the writer do with the less common stamps and with common ones ? - T reminds students pay attention to key words in the questions and in the reading passage. - T gives model to students. - T lets students 3 minutes to read the passage again and answer the questions. - T use the game LUCKY APPLES to check the students’ answers and give feedback. + T divides class into 2 teams: TEAM A and TEAM B + T lets students play the game “Lucky apples” to answer 5 questions above. + There are 3 lucky apples: pink apple, black apple, blue apple. + T gets each team to take turn to choose the apple and answer the question corresponding to the apple they have chosen. Feedback: 1. His first hobby is playing his guitar. 2. Because he’s an accomplished guitarist and he is good at accompanying people singing by his guitar. 3. He bought some from the shop and collected others from the rice field near his house. 4. He collects them from discarded envelopes given by his relatives and friends. 5. He keeps the less common ones inside a small album. And he usually gives the common ones to others or throw them away if no one wants them. IV. Post- reading (10 minutes) Activity 3: Discussion - T tells students to get into groups, choose group leader and secretary of each group. - T asks students to talk about their hobbies in 5 minutes and then the group leader of each group will present their friends’ hobbies in her or his group. - T checks the instructions. - T lets students 5 minutes to discuss. - T calls some group leaders to present in front of class. - T gives comments. Group work, individual work V. Home- work and Evaluation (5 minutes) Homework: + T asks students to write a short paragraph about their hobby in their notebook. Ex: My hobby is reading book.
