V/Procedure: Teacher and students’s Activities Contents Getting started Warm-up: To help students to join the new lesson effectively and improve their speaking skill. (10’) -Ask students to look at the four pictures on page 10 and talk about the activities they want to do after school or in their free time. -Give the students some questions: + What are these students doing? (5’) -to seem (translation) -a next door neighbor (explanation: a person who lives next to your house) Checking vocabulary: Rub out and remember. -Rub out the new words one at a time. -Each time Teacher rubs out an English words, point to the Vietnamese list, and ask “What this in English?” -When all the words are rubbed out, Teacher goes through the Vietnamese list and gets students to say the English words. 2.Pre-questions:To help students check guess the content of the dialogue. (15’) -Give the students some questions and ask them to work in pairs to answer those questions. Pre-questions: a) Is Nien Lan’s friend or Hoa’s friend? b) Where does Nien live? c) How old is she? d) Is she beautiful? (Feedback -Ask students to read the dialogue between Hoa and Lan on page 10 and see if their answers are correct or not. 3. Comprehension questions: To help students check their predictions. (5’) -Ask students to read the dialogue again and answer the questions on page 11 (pair work) -Call on some students to ask and answer the questions. -Correct their mistakes or pronunciation. -Ask them to work in close pairs. 4.Discussion: Speaking (6’) -Have students work in groups of four, describing one of the students in class about the hair, the dress, the body… Listen and Read Vocabulary -to seem (v) dường như -a next door neighbor (explanation: a person who lives next to your house) người hàng xóm, láng giềng. They can also improve listening skill through the dialogues. II/ Language contents 1.Vocabulary: -blond (adj) -curly (adj) -fair (dj) -slim (adj) -straight (adj) 2.Grammar S + have+ adj + hair. S + be + adj. III/ Techniques:Questioning, eliciting… IV/ Teaching aids -Lesson plan, textbook, cassette player. V/Procedure: Teacher and students’s Activities Contents SPEAK * Brainstorming: To help students to check their knowledge about the previous lesson. (10’) -Ask students to think of the adjective used to describe body build and hair. Examples: tall blond body build hair -Expected answers: - fat - short - slim - slender - thin - long - short - straight - overweight - dark -Show students a picture of Mary and ask them to describe her hair and her body build. 1.Word cue drill: To help students improve their speaking and writing skill. (10’) UNIT 1: MY FRIENDS Lesson 2: Speak –Listen Vocabulary -blond = fair (adj) vàng hoe -curly (adj)xoăn -slim (adj) thanh mảnh -straight (adj) thẳng Example: - She has long blond hair. - She is short and thin. Form: S + have+ adj + hair. S + be + adj. Drill 4 Phan Thanh Hiền– Trà Cổ Junior High School Lesson plan – English 8 -Prepare six cards so that students can drill easily. -Stick the cards on the board and students try to describe people using the cues. -Teacher helps if necessary. 2.Show the poster of six people on page 11 – 12: To help students guess one of the six people by using simple describing sentences. (10’) -Call on a student to describe one person. The others have to guess who he/ she is. Example: S1: This person is short and thin. She has long blond hair. S2: Is this Mary? S1: Yes. -Go on with the six people. Ask students to describe some of their classmates and their friends have to guess. LISTEN: To help students choose the suitable expressions in correct situations. ( 12’) -Ask students to do exercise “Listen a – b – c – d” on page 12 – 13. -Make sure the students know what it means in the box. -Get students to guess and complete four dialogues on page 12 – 13 using the given expressions in pairs. -Let students listen to the tape twice. -Ask students to practice speaking with the dialogues. -Call on some pairs. Correct their pronunciation. e) he/tall/thin He is tall and thin. f) she/short/fat She is short and fat. g) he/short/slim He is short and slim. h) long/black She has long black hair. i) curly/blond He has curly blond hair. j) straight/brown You have straight brown hair. V/Procedure: Teacher and students’s Activities Contents Pre-reading: To arouse and help students get the meaning of new words. (10’) Pre-teach vocabulary -Some words are translated directly into Vietnamese. Some need explanation. -Students listen the tape twice. + an orphanage: a place where children without parents live + a joke: a funny story Game: Rub out and remember -Write the words on the board, put one in each circle. -Ask students to repeat the words in chorus then rub out word by word but leave the circle. -Point to each circle and ask students to say chorally the English words. -Ask students to write the words again in the correct circles. V/Procedure: Teacher and students’s Activities Contents Warm up Kim’s game : To motivate students and help them check their previous knowledge.( 10’) -Ask a good students in front of the class and describe a person in class and have another try to guess who he / she is. -Then,Ask students to look at the picture on page 17 quickly (15 seconds).
