A INTRODUCTION

Good morning, everyone, we are group 2 Today we are very happy to be here to present our topic There are eight members in our group: Xuan Hoang Nguyen (Group leader), Thu Hang Nguyen (Group secretary),… Our presentation is about Climate changes Our presentation includes five parts The first part is Explained about climate changes The second part looks at The reality of climate changes The third part discusses Climate changes reasons The fourth part deals with Consequences of climate changes The final part mentions Solution

“Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted,” says Aldous Huxley in one of his books He perfectly summarizes the biggest cause of the issues the world of today struggles with, the issues that are created by humans’ tendency to ignore the consequences of their actions Water shortages, light pollution, deforestation– all problems that you are familiar with by this point People use fossil fuel like there is no tomorrow, not even thinking about how much it can be harmful to the environment What they fail to remember is that they themselves live in the very world they do not seem to care what happens to Each year, more water is gone to waste, a bigger amount of meat is consumed, and the number of trees cut

down keeps increasing Some consequences are immediately noticeable for example: people can see how much smaller the Amazon forests got or how much water was used unsuitable As a result, climate change has become a phenomenal problem among the developing and wealthy countries

Environmental conditions are changing rapidly with the temperatures increasing, water levels rising, the glaciers melting – complications no-one had to deal with a mere two hundred years ago The human race’s means of living is not only changing the climate but is also transforming with it The transformation is not exactly for the better, though, but the

worse This has to stop; humans must start adapting to use renewable resources and stop destroying the environment if anything is going to be different Just as Greta Thunberg stated, climate change is not only a threat; it is, above all, an opportunity to adapt and create a greener, healthier world People have to define what exactly causes the seemingly little, but in reality, crucial environmental changes, develop methods to ameliorate their consequences, and find ways to raise awareness Humans forget that they are supposed to be the protectors of the world, not the ravagers How is the Earth going to survive, if the only species it has the chance to lean on turn their back to it?

I Explained about climate changes

1 Concept of climate

Alixop's concept of climate: The climate of a place is the characteristic weather regime over many years, created by solar radiation, the characteristics of the ground regarding climate circulation

Factors forming climate: radiation factor, ground radiation balance, atmospheric radiation balance, ground-atmosphere radiation balance, Earth's thermal balance

The average weather of a particular region, which exists over a long period of time, usually 30 years (according to the WMO) including factors such as temperature, humidity, precipitation, atmospheric phenomena, and many other weather factors, is a state that includes statistical descriptions of the climate system

Meteorological factors: solar radiation, cloud amount, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, air temperature, precipitation amount (rainfall amount), evaporation and air humidity, and weather phenomena.

2 Climate change concept

Climate change is the alteration of the climate system, including the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and geosphere, at present and in the future due to both natural and human-caused factors It causes harmful impacts on the climate system Variety of spices and preservatives

Climate change refers to changes in the physical or biological environment that adversely affect the composition, capacity for recovery, or reproduction of natural ecosystems and that are difficult to manage or that affect economic, social, health, and welfare activities of human beings (in the framework of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change) Climate change is the fluctuation of the global or regional average state of the atmosphere over time, from decades to millions of years (IPCC, 2007) These changes are caused by the dynamics of the planet, solar radiation, and human activities.

Trang 9

Climate change in the 20th century onwards is mainly caused by humans; therefore, the terms climate change and global warming are synonymous in modern times.

II The reality of climate changes

The bad manifestations of climate change exist clearly in daily life that we can completely feel or see Understanding the reality of global climate change will help each of us self-aware of how dangerous the problem is, not just hypothetical Here, group 3 will list 7 manifestations of climate change

Firstly, Global average temperature increases:

The current situation of global climate change is increasingly turning in a bad direction, typically the warming of the Earth In other words, the increasing average temperature due to the warming of the atmosphere is one of the realities of global climate change Speaking about the current climate change issue, a senior scientist of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said that on average, the Earth's temperature increases from 1.2 to 1.3 degrees Celsius each year It is predicted that the rate of temperature increase will not stop, the Earth will continue to heat up.

Secondly, The concentration of greenhouse gases increases:

Human burning of fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions increase the concentration of greenhouse gases, which is one of the serious consequences of global climate change These greenhouse gases include CO2, methane, nitrous oxide, and other gases, known as greenhouse gases because they trap heat from the Earth's radiation, leading to an increase in the Earth's temperature.

Thirdly, Drought occurs in many places on Earth:

The reality of climate change on Earth is followed by increasing drought in many regions of the world This is a very dangerous situation of global climate change, threatening human and animal life Since 1970, the area affected by drought has increased The reality of this global climate change phenomenon is easily seen in the countries of Europe, the West of the United States and Australia.

Fourthly, Rainfall increases or decreases erratically:

Trang 10

In contrast to drought, increased and erratic rainfall is also the reality of global climate change Accordingly, instead of regular rain in certain seasons of the year, there are now often unseasonal heavy rains in many areas of the world According to statistics, in the northern regions, the rainfall tends to increase causing floods, while the rainfall in the tropics tends to decrease, making irrigation water scarce.

Fifthly, Sea level rise, ocean acidification:

Rising sea levels are caused by rising temperatures and melting ice, causing water to expand According to official information from NASA, it is predicted that by 2100, the water level is likely to rise by 0.3 to 1.2 m In addition, human development into the atmosphere also increases the amount of CO2 absorbed in the ocean, leading to ocean acidification Currently, each year, the amount of CO2 absorbed into the ocean is about 2 billion tons.

Sixthly, The change of living environment:

Climate change also causes a change in the living environment of animals and plants These changes can affect biodiversity and lead to a decline in the number of animal and plant species.

Finally, Continuous occurrence of extreme weather phenomena:

Another typical reality of climate change is the appearance of extreme weather phenomena It is possible that there is a sudden increase in both the number and intensity of major storms, hail, tornadoes, etc each year The Arctic Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Northwest regions of the Pacific Ocean, are the key points where we can see the most extreme weather phenomena that make the whole world bewildered and worried scared In addition, the depletion of the ozone layer caused by the use of refrigerators, air conditioners, and fire extinguishers also has a significant impact on the Earth's ecosystem, such as increasing harmful radiation and light rays to the Earth, damaging the protective membrane, and increasing the risk of falling celestial bodies.

III Climate changes reasons

1 Natural Causes of Climate Change

Trang 11

To understand climate change fully, the causes of climate change must be first identified The earth’s climate is influenced and changed through natural causes like volcanic eruptions, ocean currents, the Earth’s orbital changes, solar variations and internal variability

The first reason to mention is that the fire erupted When a fire erupts, it releases huge

amounts of sulfur dioxide (SO2), water vapor, dust, and ash into the atmosphere Large volumes of gas and ash can affect the climate for many years.

Small particles called aerosols are ejected by volcanoes, aerosols reflect solar radiation back into space so they have the effect of reducing the temperature of the earth's surface layer.

Variation of ocean currents is also the cause of this change The oceans are a major

component of the climate system Ocean currents move large amounts of heat across the planet Changes in ocean circulation can affect climate through the movement of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The next cause mentioned is the change in the Earth's orbit The earth makes one full

orbit around the sun each year The axis of rotation has an angle of inclination of 23.5° Changes in the tilt of the earth can lead to small but climatically important changes in the strength of the seasons, more tilt means warmer summers and colder winters; less tilt means cooler summers and milder winters The very small rate of change can take into account annual time, so it can be said not to have a big impact on climate change.

Solar variations - The Sun is the source of energy for the Earth’s climate system.

Although the Sun’s energy output appears constant from an everyday point of view, small changes over an extended period of time can lead to climate changes.

Internal variability - Some changes in climate have no external trigger These changes

are instead caused by interactions within the climate system itself, often involving positive feedbacks One example is the El Niño–La Niña cycle, which can cause temporary warming and cooling Both phenomena affect atmospheric circulation patterns and influence global climate.

It can be seen that the causes of climate change due to natural factors contribute a very small part to climate change and are cyclical from the past to the present.

2 Human-Driven Causes of Climate Change

Trang 12

A study published January 18 in the journal Nature Climate Change said that the cause of global warming that has occurred since the industrial revolution is due to greenhouse gas emissions in human activities Since the mid-19th century, the air temperature at the Earth's surface has increased by an average of more than 1°C, increasing the frequency and severity of extreme weather events such as droughts, floods, and super storm

An international team of researchers wants to better understand the extent to which global warming is directly caused by human activities through greenhouse gas emissions and land-use conversion, compared with activity nature of the Earth These natural activities include volcanic eruptions and changes in solar heat This is considered to be the cause of global warming from the point of view of climate change skeptics and deniers The researchers monitored 13 different climate models to simulate changes in Earth's temperature under three scenarios including temperature changes caused by aerosols - colloidal systems of solid particles or particles drops of liquid in the air or other gas; due to natural processes of the Earth, and due to greenhouse gas emissions The results show that emissions from human activities cause the Earth's temperature to increase by 0.9-1.3°C, which is completely consistent with the current 1.1°C global temperature increase.

So what exactly did humans do?

The first cause is production of goods Manufacturing and industrial sectors generate

emissions, largely from burning fossil fuels to generate energy to produce cement, iron, steel, electricity, plastics, clothing and other commodities Mining, construction and other industrial processes also emit gases The machines used in the production process are usually powered by coal, oil or gas; Meanwhile, some materials such as plastic are made from chemicals derived from fossil fuels The manufacturing industry is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the world.

Secondly, nowsadays, people have created more waste because of the amount of packaging

used and the short life cycle of products A lot of items, waste and packaging isn't
