By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to gain:

1 Knowledge

- In a text about green living, look for main ideas and particular information - Figure out the meaning of words/phrases based on context.

- Discuss how to live greener.

2 Fundamental knowledge

- Be collaborative and supportive when working in pairs or teams - Gather and organize information from many sources.

- Improve student's presentation skills - Actively participate in class activities.

3 Personal characteristics

- Recognize which activities are associated with a green lifestyle and be willing to incorporate them into their daily lives.

- Be in charge of environmental protection.

Note: T- Teacher; Ss - Students; m - minutes; Ex - Example

-T introduces the lesson and tell them focus on the video that they are going to watch right now.

* CLIP WATCHING

-T give instruction: watch the clip and take note what the man has done.

-T lets Ss watch a short video clip

* When Ss finish watching, T will ask them to raise hand or random call some students to share their take note such as their words/ phrases they have noted down.

- T writes down their answers * Teacher:

-Checks and corrects => T leads in the lesson

-T asks Ss to look at the meaning/explanation and the photo to guess the meanings of new words.

-Ss say the Vietnamese meaning of the words 1 method (n): a way of doing something

7 Carbon footprint

-Other Ss correct if the previous answers are incorrect -T tells the Vietnamese meaning, says the words aloud and ask to call some Ss to repeat them.

*TASK 1: WORK IN GROUPS LOOK AT THE PICTURES AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS

-T divide class into 4 groups to discuss about this question Give them 2mts to discuss.

(What can you see in the picture? How each object is related to a green life style? Ex: single-use plastic bags: plastic waste, pollution, difficult to recycle, can end up in the ocean, fresh vegetable, green lifestyle.)

Which pictures show a green lifestyle? Why?

- Ss come back to the class ( MS.Team) -T asks some groups to share their answers.

“Ok, so now I would like to invite some group to share youranswers with whole class Which picture and the reasonwhy you chose them?”

-T confirm and leads into the topic of the reading

“What can people do to live green?”

***Suggested answers:

- In Picture a, a man goes shopping with lots of plastic bags It doesn’t show a green lifestyle Plastic bags pollute the environment since they take time to decay

- In Picture b, we can see fresh food, which looks organic and is better for our health It shows a green lifestyle - In Picture c, we can see a lot of litter on the ground Dropping litter makes the streets very dirty and pollutes the air and water It doesn’t show a green lifestyle

- In Picture d, the sign advises people to turn off lights when they are not in use This can save electricity and shows a green lifestyle.

*Pictures b, d show a green lifestyle In picture b, the man is harvesting organic food which reduces harmful chemicals in food and protects the environment In picture d, the sign shows us the activity of saving electricity, which helps our life and environment to be greener.

II.While-Reading

*TASK 2: READ THE FOLLOWING TEXT AND CHOOSE THE BEST TITILE FOR IT.

“We gonna move to activities 2 read and choose the best title for the text.”

-T show the text

“But before you read the text, I want you guys focus on the Tips box here Can some one help me to read the Tips

-T remind other Ss while your friends read out loud, they also must read it by themselves.

If no one raise hand, call randomly

-T checks their understanding after reading the Tips box.

“You read through the text or some first sentences? Focus on first paragraph or last paragraph? You chose the title for the whole text or each paragraph?”

-T tell them to work in pair to discuss the best option and compare their answers Give them 2mts

-T tell them type their pair answer on the chat box (MS Teams)

-T confirms the correct one

***Optional

Call some represents Ss to explain why the other options cannot be used as title for the text

Ex: (B) This only refers to environmental problems while the text mentions some solutions as well (C) The text mentions a couple of green products such as organic food and refillable bottles, but they are not the focus here.

“So, as you can see in the text, they give you a long text right, but, beside that they also give some particular idea/ small idea as here, here, here, and here (4 pinks lines) so you can easily guess the main idea for the whole text right?

So, in the first paragraph, there is a sentence “There are

many things you can do to become an eco-friendly person Here are some of them.”

So we choose A Green living.”

*TASK 3: CIRCLE THE CORECT MEANINGS OF THE HIGHTLIGHTED WORDS AND PHRASES IN THE TEXT.

-T divide class into 6 groups of 4 to discuss the clues foe each option and compare the answers

-When Ss finish, T calls some groups to share their answer with whole class

-T confirm the answers

1 sustainable: a causing little or no damage to the

2 Organic: b without the use of chemicals

Clue: reduce, harmful chemicals in food, safer, healthier, taste better

* TASK 4: READ THE TEXT AGAIN AND DECIDE WHETHER THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS ARE TRUE (T) OR FALSE (F).

-T tells Ss read the statements and underline the key words in each sentence

Example:

1 Green living is now compulsory for many people -T tells Ss read through the text to locate the answer, and

-T explains that the information in the statements is paraphrased (maybe in Vietnamese)

-T explains some difficult vocab Ss don’t know -Have Ss work in pair to compare the information in each statement with the information from the text

In your opinion, which of the suggestions in the text isthe easiest way to live green?

-T tells Ss to think about the whole text again, and write down 3-4 ways to live green and which of the suggestions is the easiest to do

- There are no right or wrong answers, tell them to explain their answers using as many reason as possible

- When Ss finish, T will invite some Ss to present/share

When Ss finish, T tells Ss to type their answer in chat box and invite some pair to read their summarize.

Wrap-up

T asks: what have you leant today? -the way to live green

Tell St to live green to protect their health and protect the environment around them
