4.Nguyen Van Nguyen
2.Introducing the group’s topic:
- Without a doubt, traffic congestion is a relevant issue these days , especially in larger cities From our perspective, it is the case because the number of cars has been increasing over the past decades but motorways and urban roads have remained the same Therefore, endless traffic jam influences individuals' productivity Moreover, vehicles have become more affordable today which is why we have an excess of automobiles on the roads Inevitably, it has an environmental impact The notions will
be examined in the essay
II.BODY
1.The current traffic situation:
- In recent years, the state of traffic has posed numerous challenges and impediments for commuters Notably, issues such as traffic congestion, air pollution, narrow roads, and even traffic accidents have become commonplace Some of these problems stem from human behavior and others are a result of external factors affecting traffic conditions While several solutions have been proposed, including investments in infrastructure and the promotion of eco-friendly transportation, they have yet to reach their full potential As a result, traffic remains an ongoing and complex issue within our society
2.Traffic problems:
a Human awareness:
Adherence to Traffic Laws:
Despite the existence of traffic laws, some individuals do not adhere to the rules, especially in major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City For instance, riding motorcycles on sidewalks, running red lights, and driving in the opposite direction are still common occurrences
Respect for Pedestrians:
There is a lack of awareness about giving way to pedestrians Many pedestrians, including students and the elderly, face risks while participating
in traffic because vehicles often do not yield the right of way
Trang 7Vehicle Management and Personal Safety:
Some motorcycle owners do not ensure safety for themselves and their passengers by not wearing helmets, neglecting regular vehicle maintenance,
or driving under the influence of alcohol This leads to many serious traffic accidents
Public and Social Consciousness:
Participation in traffic is not just an individual matter but also a community concern Social consciousness in traffic includes respecting fellow road users and ensuring that your behavior does not negatively affect others For example, improper parking and causing traffic jams are issues
b External impacts
Roads:
Roads in Vietnam are often narrow and have many 90-degree angles This creates many difficulties for traffic management and increases the risk of accidents While there are too many warning signs and prohibited signs on a stretch of road, it is difficult for traffic participants to see and understand the warning signs Reduced roads also lead to sidewalk markings being encroached on as places to sell goods, leaving cars behind, leading to a situation where traffic participants are hidden from view, along with many degraded road sections that have a potential basis for information accidents
Urbanization:
The rapid increase in urbanization has put pressure on urban transport infrastructure In big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, there have been many investment projects to build road systems, ring roads that have been renovated and expanded However, the development of transportation infrastructure has not kept up with the pace of urbanization, leading to congestion and congestion In addition, the rapid urbanization process leads to strong migration from rural to urban areas The number of people living in urban areas is increasing rapidly, with dense population density causing an imbalance between rural and urban areas This causes the number of people participating in urban traffic to increase, making social order increasingly complicated
Infrastructure:
Most traffic infrastructure systems are small in scale, not synchronized and have not created perfect connections, their ability to meet traffic needs and traffic safety is limited Compared to some advanced countries in the region, Vietnam's traffic infrastructure system is only at an average level In terms of roads, Vietnam's highway ratio is much lower than other countries In the region, there are only more than 980 km of expressways out of a total of 295 thousand km of roads The railway system is old, outdated, and unsafe Investment in infrastructure development in large cities is still slow, especially the urban railway system, which has affected traffic congestion and
Trang 8environmental pollution Investment in infrastructure in some areas does not meet development requirements
Environmental pollution:
Emissions from vehicles are the leading cause of increased air pollution in urban areas, accounting for up to 70% of the total amount of dust and gasses released into the air environment In addition, fine dust and soot caused by transporting volatile chemicals, garbage, construction materials also contribute to increased pollution Dust pollution occurs in most major cities in Vietnam Even in some big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City Ho Chi Minh City, this situation is increasingly serious at an alarming rate There are times when the average amount of dust in the air is 200 - 300 times higher than the allowed standard This directly affects human health They are the cause of many serious cardiovascular diseases, respiratory disorders, nasopharyngeal cancer, pneumonia, bronchitis, rhinitis, conjunctivitis,
III SUGGESTED CONCLUSION
1.For human awareness
Inform the authorities if you see danger or a disturbance on the road: we may encounter various situations when driving on the city streets or on roads or highways We should not be indifferent to these situations For example; we can testify to a demonstration, debris, departing animals, or an accident Given these events, it is advisable to call the relevant authorities, because the faster the problem is reported, the faster the actions to be taken
Respect the lanes: Remember that there is one lane to drive fast and another
lane to drive at a more normal speed If you drive very slowly along the left lane and other vehicles have to pass you to continue, you are causing vehicle congestion and accident hazard If you prefer to drive slower, use the right or center lane
Follow the traffic light rules: We all know that we should stop when the red
light is on, and move on when the green light is on Therefore, the most important stage of traffic rules is to obey traffic lights
This is also true for your own vehicle lights If you are turning, use the turn signals If you are going to stop, activate the flashlights So, If you don’t, the rest of the drivers and pedestrians cannot predict what to do That is why it is
so important to state your actions Thus, you will improve vehicle chaos and prevent accidents
Vehicles are forbidden to stop at bus stops, garages, or forbidden places:
you must comply with traffic regulations and know that parking is prohibited at bus stops, garage doors, or pedestrian roads And remember: Stations never occur in double rows
If you have a problem with your vehicle, park aside: If your vehicle has
been damaged, move as quickly as possible to the side of the street (when safe) Then place the safety signs so that the rest of the drivers can see you
Trang 9Give way: If you find yourself facing a long car line that wants to enter your
lane, use the alternative method so that everyone can progress slowly and without traffic chaos Often, vehicle congestion occurs because drivers are included in other lanes You can give way to vehicles to prevent this
Public transport should be promoted: Perhaps the most repetitive and at the
same time the most effective solution, because the use of public transport significantly reduces the traffic density of private vehicles in the city for two main reasons:
2 For external impacts:
To solve external problems, a variety of solutions are possible, depending on the specific problems facing the city or region Here are some suggested solutions:
Adverse Weather Conditions:
Heavy rain, snowfall, fog, and other weather-related issues are challenges that can be difficult, and sometimes impossible, to address Therefore, the only viable option is to forecast and restrict travel during adverse weather conditions
Lack of Infrastructure:
- Road Expansion: Invest in expanding road infrastructure to accommodate
the growing number of vehicles
- Smart Traffic Management: Use intelligent traffic management systems
to optimize traffic flow and reduce congestion
- Bike Lanes and Pedestrian Walkways: Create dedicated lanes and
walkways for cyclists and pedestrians to reduce pressure on roadways
Parking Issues:
- Smart Parking Solutions: Implement smart parking systems that guide
drivers to available parking spaces, reducing the time spent searching for parking
- Parking Fees: Increase parking fees during peak hours to encourage
turnover and reduce congestion
- Promote Alternatives: Encourage the use of public transportation, cycling,
or walking by making these options more convenient and affordable
Traffic Accidents:
- Improved Road Design: Redesign roads and intersections to minimize
accident-prone areas
- Advanced Safety Features: Promote the use of vehicles with advanced
safety features, such as automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning systems
- Stricter Licensing: Implement stricter licensing requirements and regular
retesting for drivers
Urban Planning:
- Mixed-Use Development: Encourage mixed-use development to reduce
the need for long commutes
- Transit-Oriented Development: Plan communities around public
transportation hubs to reduce car dependency
Trang 10- Remote Work: Promote remote work options to reduce the number of
daily commuters
THE END
Trang 11In addressing traffic problems, collaboration and harnessing technology are essential starting points We need to change the way we commute, invest in infrastructure, and promote awareness of clean and efficient transportation Only when all of us contribute and work together can we create a better transportation environment for the future
